The Hale family is obsessed with status, power, and control. No problem is too big their money can’t solve.Royce Hale manipulated me into giving him everything. My virginity. My hand in marriage. My heart. And as soon as he got what he wanted, he callously sold me off for a cool ten million. In the boardroom and the twisted game his family plays, he says the only rule is to win at all costs. … to win at all costs.
Yesterday I learned a painful lesson not to trust the prince of Cape Hill. Today I’ll destroy his carefully laid plans and show him just how badly he’s already lost.
All the money in the world won’t be able to stop me.
The Obsession is the second book of the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and should be read following The Initiation.

Marist is trying to pull herself together after Royce sold her out to Macalister. He is a controlling devil who is always two steps ahead of everybody else.
Being forced to play chess with Macalister every night until she learns the game well enough to beat him is more than a normal human should stand. Try as she may, he always wins. Their agreement is contingent on her being able to beat him. Once that happens, she will be able to breathe and gain her freedom from him.
Emotions are complex in this installment. No one can be trusted, so Marist has decided she needs to be smart and start thinking more aggressively. She needs to protect herself and not depend on Royce or anyone for that matter to protect her. Macalister is getting more and more aggressive showing his lust for her. She will do anything to avoid any type of intimacy with this man. Yet, his control over everything is a powerful inducer.
I kid you not! I can hardly wait to read the final installment of this series- The Deception! I want someone to beat Macalister at his own game. I also want Marist to succeed being her own saviour and not to have to depend on anyone. Let her hold all the cards in this game!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
There are just so many jaw dropping, WTF!!!!!!, You did not just go there!!!, OMG!!!!, Oh, no she/he didn’t!!!!! moments filling this twisted, tension packed, push your limits, press your buttons and drive you right up the wall read. This is book two of this series, so be aware that A) You really must read, book one, The Initiation first and B) There is going to be a cliffhanger that will leave you needing the next book ASAP!! This is such an intense read. Deception, manipulation, nothing is as it seems, who can be trusted? I feel that my own emotions are like a piece of broken string that have been balled up and tossed in a drawer. I’m a convoluted mess of contrasting emotions and I am not sure of anything including what is right, who’s in the wrong or how I want the story to end. All I’m one hundred percent sure of is that I need more of this juicy, dirty, deliciousness.
So here’s what happened …… [insert me laughing for a long time] Jesus Christ on a cracker , I don’t know how I didn’t have a gazillion anxiety attacks during this read!! #eyetwitch
What happened was .. a lot . AGAIN! It is page after page and layer upon layer of .. a lot .. in the most deviously delicious and depraved way! LOL, that’s a lot of D words but seriously, MIND.FUCK. I don’t even know if I’m rooting for anyone at this point and that’s not a negative hit about the book, it’s just exhausting. The minute I thought I would have some peace in the reading BAM, think again. And again. And again. AND AGAIN! Jesus!
This story continues to be deliriously captivating, devastatingly unpredictable and unbelievably manipulating. I am stupefied once again by the twists and layers and I honestly have zero clue how any of this is going to fall into place and I don’t care to speculate LOL. I do hope that both Royce and Marist get better growth as individuals when the story continues because right now, in my opinion, they have done a complete about face on the strong and powerful characters they were in The Initiation. We shall see …..

Obsession is full of twist and turns I didn’t see coming. A lot of middle books in trilogies failure to measure up, this book is the exception. The complicated dynamics will keep you turning until the end.
The Deception can’t get here soon enough.
OMG! I swear this book gives me anxiety! I don’t know if I could ever live in that house! I don’t know how Royce and Marist will ever make it to their wedding! This book makes me feel so many different feelings! It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions. And that cliffhanger!! Nikki Sloane you are killing me!! I need the last book now!
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the publisher sent me.
What a wild ride! I devoured this one in a day! If you thought The Initiation was fantastic, this one tops it!! You won’t be able to put it down! It’s all about the facade… Total mind manipulation! Twists and turns will keep you hooked throughout! That ending will leave you BEGGING for The Deception NOW!!!
