The Hale family is obsessed with status, power, and control. No problem is too big their money can’t solve.Royce Hale manipulated me into giving him everything. My virginity. My hand in marriage. My heart. And as soon as he got what he wanted, he callously sold me off for a cool ten million. In the boardroom and the twisted game his family plays, he says the only rule is to win at all costs. … to win at all costs.
Yesterday I learned a painful lesson not to trust the prince of Cape Hill. Today I’ll destroy his carefully laid plans and show him just how badly he’s already lost.
All the money in the world won’t be able to stop me.
The Obsession is the second book of the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and should be read following The Initiation.

I’m still not sure what to think after finishing this book. Nikki Sloane does an excellent creating dynamic characters that are horrifyingly human. I love a book where things aren’t black and white and this one nailed that. I can’t wait for the conclusion.
This series is insanely good!
I am hopelessly addicted to this story! Forget everything you thought you knew about the Hales because this second installment of the Filthy Rich Americans series is going to blow those perceptions away.
Twists, turns, deception, betrayals, lust, and obsession – this book has it all. And just when you think you’ve figured out what comes next, you realize how completely wrong you are. I’m so in love with these characters. They’re multidimensional, full of intrigue, and complicated AF. Yet each one manages to capture a part of your heart.
If you thought the cliffy in book one left you hanging, you haven’t seen anything yet! Patience cliffhanger haters: only one more installment to go and I can’t wait to devour it! I need answers!
The Obsession picks up where the Initiation left off…with Macalister Hale twisting the threads of Royce and Marist’s lives like a masterful puppeteer. However his determined facade begins to crack and we see glipmses of his human struggles with his obsession with Maraist. She attempts to play his game, but at what cost to her and Royce’s relationship. While this type of older man/younger woman fixation is not particularly my cup of tea, I couldn’t help myself from devouring this book. Nikki Sloane has a way of dragging you deep into the depths of human emotions and sexual tension that you just can’t seem to help yourself. And again … cliff hanger… thankfully the next one will be the end of the story. I’ll be sitting on pins and needles waiting to get my grubby little paws on it.
3.5 Stars!!
HOW IS THIS BOOK REAL?!?! I need more stat.
My expectations were sky high after book 1 and I feel too messed up over what all happened.
I was expecting Marist to wreck and ruin Royce and Macalister and make them eat dirt while ruling Earth. Her character felt a bit stuck to me. I wanted her to do these great things but it felt like her character wasn’t getting much of growth in this book. I still really love her and want to see her be the Queen I know she can be.
So y’all remember how I was ashamed to admit me being into this one character and well now I’m really mortified because I can’t believe his character went in that direction. It honestly became uncomfortable after one point. I hope things change in book three but they need to be majorly different from this.
Royce is just getting on my nerves at this point. Sure he was hot in some instances but during some of the scenes I was just like BOY GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER.
I want to tell you I love Nikki Sloane and her writing with all my heart. She wrote this book like a dream and even though I don’t agree with some elements I am 200% more excited for book 3 than I was at the start of this story. Nikki knows how to keep you on your toes. Just when you think she’s easing up on you she throws you this impossible curveball and you are left feeling like you want to run into walls. I LOVE THAT!!
Also, Nikki deserves a standing ovation for that end THAT SCENE that whole twist had me screaming. I am almost ready to root for the villain after this.
The Obsession starts off right where The Initiation left off and if you read The Initiation you know how that one ended. *gives Royce the middle finger, because jerkkkkk!!!!*
I enjoyed this story, maybe not as much as the first one and I’ll get into that in a bit, but man you just don’t know what’s going to happen and what these characters have up their sleeves. I honestly didn’t trust anyone. But I am rooting for Royce and Marist. I really hope things with them pan out in the end, and Royce does much needed groveling.
There were some things in the story that didn’t do it for me. Maybe it just felt like there was a lot of back and forth with each character with them trying to one up each other. Or maybe just like in book 1, there were some scenes that I didn’t expect. I love Royce and Marist together, but there were times where the story seemed to be taking on a love triangle and I didn’t know how I felt about that. I am looking forward to the last book to see how everything will play out.
Also, I would love for Vance to get his own book. There’s just something about him. 🙂
Holy crap!! What a cliffhanger!!
The Obsession is book 2 from the Filthy Rich Americans series, and what a ride it was!
Book 2 picks up right where book one left off, with Marist and Royce thrown into the unexpected mind game of his father, Macalister. Marist is distraught and angry because of Royce and his actions, but she isn’t going to just lie down and take it. She isn’t the meek and submissive girl they all thought her to be. She is an undeniable force to be reckoned with, and she will fight using everything within her reach to beat both Royce and Macalister at their games.
This book was on explosion of greed and lust and even love all colliding at breakneck speed, you as a reader never really know what to expect next! I read this book in one sitting, not able to put it down, trying my hardest to uncover the secrets and motives and the deceptions!! Marist finally coming into her own and fighting for her freedom, but also fighting for Royce at the same time was just amazing to read. I love a strong and determined heroine, and Marist was all of that. I’m still on the fence about Royce, but only because he is still a mystery to me. I haven’t completely figured him out, and I am still reserving judgement until all is revealed. I just hope he finally gets to take Macalister down in the next book!
Nikki Sloane has me all up in the clouds with this series. The Obsession is just as good as The Initiation. No lie, this series will hook you and you’ll just jump in from one book to the other without batting an eye.
We continue to get to know Marist, Royce and Macalister. We get so much angst and nail biting intrigue that will have you sitting at the edge of your seat.
As I have read a lot of this author’s work, I think her books just keep getting better and better. I love her style of writing and her stories are stories that will stay with me.
I can guarantee you that you will not be bored but it can shock you with what goes on with this family.
“The best lies he told with his lips were the ones where he didn’t use words.”
Second part in the Filthy Rich Americans series, The Obsession returns at the same point where the previous book ended, showing the unfolding situation of the characters right after Royce’s great betrayal. Marist is devastated, and torn between her anger at Royce and her hatred for Macalister, she decides she’ll never be a part of their sickly game again. Willing to get even and destroy her fiancé, she lays out a plan where she will have to learn to play the same power games that she abhors.
But Macalister will be a constant interference, and given his high manipulative power, Marist becomes easy prey. With her future father-in-law’s obsession with the young woman growing by the day and bordering on an intolerable situation, the clashes between the two become the highlight of the narrative, but even if she achieves some achievements, her more experienced and ruthless opponent will overwhelm her every time. And she will eventually surrender little by little.
Marist and Royce’s relationship will be shaken. Lack of trust, secrets, and Macalister’s direct interference will create conflicts between the two. Trapped in a glass fortress, where every step is calculated and every action has a price and a consequence, Marist embarks on a dangerous journey where the glimpse of a happy future is not in her path. But dealing with the controversial feelings and the human side of her future father-in-law will be her biggest challenge, one that will require her to maintain her sanity. Even more so, as an unwanted attraction begins to be present.
But in this controversial, nuanced world, knowing who to trust is almost impossible. Over the course of the narrative, various facets of the characters will be shown, and finding out who is sincere will be the big question.
With an unexpected, electrifying, twisting end, Marist will find herself in an extreme situation simply because she did not expect the betrayal of someone hitherto free of suspicion. The book ends in another cliffhanger, as well as its predecessor., which will make the reader yearn for the next volume. The war on Olympus was declared. Who will be the winner? And most importantly, who are the gods and who are the monsters?
Shocked, it’s the only word that comes to mind after finishing this book. The first book was a roller coaster. This is like a death drop. It will leave you absolutely breathless. I am in awe of Sloane’s writing. Can’t wait to see how this ride finishes.
Shel: The second book in Filthy Rich Americans Series, The Obsession, did not disappoint. Ever since the jaw dropping ending of The Initiation, I’ve been eager to see what in the hell will happen next and I can confirm that Nikki Sloane continues to build my curiosity as she throws more twists and turns. I swear, every time I thought things were calming down and stabilizing, she’d amp up the insanity that is Macalister Hale and his deviousness. Court: I didn’t think I could be more intrigued…but she definitely proved me wrong! The writing is SO GOOD! and kept me on the edge of my seat. The games these people play are crazy and the stakes are high, and we probably will never be able to predict exactly what will happen next, but I am just dead. Dead I tell you. And i cannot wait for the next one.
Shel: You’ll speed through these pages trying to find out what Royce is up to. I’m still not sure that I fully understand or know which direction he’s going in and if this novel is any indication, they’ll be a twist to what he’s up to, for sure. And what about Alice? And Macalister? And that ending? And how will Royce and Marist get their HEA? Court: YES! We know a little bit more than we did, but with every answered question…there are even more that pop up. Romantic suspense is kind of my favorite, so I am impatiently waiting for the next book in this series. Filthy Rich, and just filthy…this one kept us on our toes.
Shel: I enjoyed Marist showing more of a backbone when it came to her situation and even though her overconfidence in her ability to outmaneuver the Hales was a dumb move on her part, I love that she didn’t just succumb to their will. I cannot wait to see if she comes back swinging and how Royce fights for their HEA. I hope we have a long juicy read for The Deception, with lots of intrigue and twists. Court: Yes. She’s figuring out that she has to fight hard, but some of these people have been at this a lot longer than her. I really love her character development though, and that she isn’t giving up quite so easily. Still rooting for her, even though some shit got cray cray! Loved this one.

I hope, I could give more than 5 stars to this book! I was eagerly waiting for it and I was scared that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. However, “The Obsession” exceeded them and left me with a massive book hangover!
“The Initiation” ended with a bomb. Royce sold Marist to his father in exchange for company shares. I was so pissed off about that and I started this book with the worst opinion about him. His father, Macalister, is a huge part of this book. We learn more about him and get to see him in a more human light. I can’t believe that I’m saying that, but through the book I actually liked him more than Royce in many occasions.
I didn’t like Royce’s secrets and constant plotting. He promised Marist that there would be only truths between them, but he keeps withholding information. I liked how Marist decided to take matters into her own hands and tried to play both men in their own games! Her opponents are both experienced in this kind of games so she’s in for a bumpy ride.
If you thought that “The Initiation” was full of twists and turns, think again because “The Obsession” is here to blow your mind! Trust me you are not ready for what’s happening; I wasn’t! With all that said, I’ll be impatiently waiting for November 5th to come, to get my hands on the next book! Until then, practice your chess strategies because more than one opponent is coming for us!!!
This is seriously twisted, if you thought The Initiation is already twisted, then this is even more twisted! Reading will keep you on the edge of your seat, just anticipating what would happen next!
After the crazy cliffhanger the first book ended on, I had mixed feelings with this one. On the other hand, I need to know what happened to Marist after what her “supposedly” fiance did to her. Then on the other I was scared to know what I would be getting myself into.
Marist couldn’t trust anything anyone said when she entered that household. There was always another meaning or a hidden agenda with everyone in that house. She always had her guards up, but sometimes she got swayed a little, and I can only keep on hoping she wouldn’t feed on their words while reading. This book really is a page-turner!
You can’t trust anyone expecially Royce and McAllister. They are devious. Every word they say can have a hundred different meanings. Seriously, I don’t know what their intentions are and the author did a really good job that I can’t predict anything what would happen next. I’m so glad that Marist finally gets tough and stands her ground! But if I were her, I would totally drop everything and just ran away from everyone in that house…
So looking forward to the final book of the trilogy! Even now we’re on the second book, I don’t have a clue how the author is going with the story. I can’t predict anything!
Holy chess match batman…
Royce and Marist are back in big way. Macalister has up’d his game and is coming hard for these two.
This story just keeps getting more twisty and sexy as the pages go by. I am feeling very very invested at this point and I am concerned that there is something wrong with me…lol.
Some of this stuff that is going on should have me shaking my head NOT fanning myself because I am all hot and bothered. At this point I am not sure who I am rooting for to take Marist to the promise land, but I can tell you whoever takes her it won’t be an easy road there. I am just starting to fall in love with Royce and I have a feeling thats a bad move on my part, but…but I believe in him! I know he is gonna do right by Marist so Nikki don’t make me look like a FOOL!!!!
I love love this series and I CANT WAIT for book 3! Bring it on!

DREAMY’S REVIEW
The Obsession by Nikki Sloane is book two in the Filthy Rich American series! After the first book, The Initiation, I could not wait for this book! I was hanging on pins and needles, biting my nails awaiting for The Obsession because of that cliffhanger we were left one!
This book is seriously twisted. Like jokes no aside!
The Obsession is gritty, hot, depraved, and filled with so much manipulation and the most cunning people I’ve ever read! And the catch? A hurt Marist is the price!
The twists and turns in this book can and will make you cringe! This book will push your limits and out of your comfort zone! And Macalister is someone I’m not a huge fan of! The games he played, the secrets, the half truths, and everything that played into this “game” really got me frustrated!
But little did they know, Marist isn’t the easiest prey AND she is a fast learner. And while I do hope for her and Royce to to have a happy ending, I’m left quite unsure of what will happen.
Book one left us with so many questions, but so did book two!
While I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as book one, I am still eager and looking forward to what happens in book three! I need to know what happens next especially after that cliffhanger!
Four dreamy stars:
Holy Wowza!!!! What an intense and captivating book!! Twisted and full of angst! My anxiety level was through the roof!! Incredible!!
This was SO FREAKING GOOD!!! Aother stellar installment in the Filthy Rich American’s series.
If you can’t tell by my tags, I loved this book (as well as the first in the series) and I can’t tell you enough how great it was. It’s sexy af, full of erotic subtext, word porn, suspense, greek mythology, and the ending? OMG, what a cliffy!
Nikki Sloane’s writing is fabulous! Her characterization is so well done. Marist is a phenomenal character and Royce and Macalister? I can’t figure either one of them out. I’m loving it, and loving the fact that I’m still in the dark with everyones true intentions.
I cannot recommend this enough if you tend toward the dastardly, suspenseful reads. It’s dark and erotic, but not in the basic sense of the description. It’s all the undertones, the secrecy, the primal desires of each character. Their nuances. It’s just WONDERFUL and I absolutley think this is a must read (after reading the Initiation, as you MUST read the first before the second).
I have been desperate for this book since The Initiation. I have been counting down the minutes until I could have more of Marist and Royce. I had to know what was next for them and what twisted games could be in their future after the way The Initiation ended things. Nikki has created this upper-class world that we get a peek behind the curtains at and just how twisted everything in Royce’s life truly is. This book is mysterious and dark, and erotic as hell! It’s so packed with the unimaginable that it left me craving more! More of the depravity, more of the darkness and more of everything that comes along with that!
My thoughts so far are in this series is, man this story is getting twisty! From the beginning of this I wasn’t sure where this story was going, but as Macalister has gotten darker, I must say it is kind of hot in a creepy he’s about to be my father-in-law kind of way! I still hate him but having seen some of his own pain, it made me kind of feel something for him. Still not sure what that something is. I probably won’t know until I truly see what he’s up too! Does he want to sleep with her, does he just want to mess with her to get to Royce!?!?! What’s his end game here… SO many questions.
Royce is still hiding things from Marist, and it’s truly to protect her. Although she is determined to get to the bottom of his lies and what his end game really is. Their connection deepens beyond words in this 2nd installment and I fell in love with their story even more. Just when you think things can’t get any darker, Nikki throws in more twists and turns that leave you spinning! I must also say, Marist is truly growing! She is crossing lines left and right, but I am very curious to see just how far she will take things and how far she’ll allow things to go within this dark and twisted family!
From the games they play to the passion within its pages, The Obsession is beyond anything I thought it could be. It’s more than I ever could dream up on my own and Nikki has done a fantastic job at making you feel like your there with these characters, living this crazy perverse life within their web of games and manipulations. I need more, so much more of Marist and Royce! They make my heart skip beats!
Right now, I am envisioning so many outcomes and how this will all play out in the next book, and I must say I have no idea! You have truly stumped me, and I am so excited to see it all play out from here. The passion, the angst, the unknown for Royce and Marist, it all has me on the edge of my seat, questioning everything! The feelings of betrayal and guilt, revenge and lust are so intertwined throughout these first two books, I can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us. Just when I think you can’t go any deeper into the dark, I’m immersed in a black hole I can’t get out of.
Intrigues, secret agreements, half truths and a hurt Marist. The Obsession continues the story that has started in The Initiation, but it doesn’t give answers to all the questions I have. I’m not sure what to think of the book, but I love the writing and Marist who doesn’t give up.
After the ending of the previous book, Marist is furious with Royce and his father Macalister. Furious with Royce for accepting his dad’s offer, furious with Macalister for making the offer. Bound to the contract and her duty to her family Marist knows she has to accept, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be without a fight.
Marist is still her normal self, but she learns to play the Hale Family game pretty fast. Although there are contracts and agreements, Marist does not give in easily and wants to maintain the control she has. I love her feistiness and braveness; the Hale men are a force of nature, but innocent Marist isn’t an easy prey. She is a fast learner who makes her own deals. Not that everything goes as she wishes, but she isn’t a helpless ‘victim’ anymore.
The Obsession is the second part of the ‘Filthy Rich Americans Trilogy’ and brings the reader back to Marist and her changing world. It’s a decadent, somewhat forbidden world where people with different morals rule. Like the previous book, The Obsession is solely told from Marist’s POV. I’m very curious for the thoughts of Royce and Macalister; I really want to know the story behind these men. And after the ending of The Obsession, I can’t wait for November when The Deception releases.
4.5 stars
I’m giving this one all the stars, LOVED IT!!!
Okay, so The Initiation was one of the best books I’ve read this year, therefore, The Obsession was one of my most anticipated because THAT ENDING!
We pick up right where we left off in The Initiation and I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. Royce has really opened Marist’ eyes with his actions to the point where she can’t trust if what they have when they are alone is real and true or not. Throw in the mind games Macalister likes to play, specifically with her, and girl is spinning and so in over her head. Just as soon as she thinks she has a leg up, the rug gets pulled out from under her. We do see a different side of Macalister in this one that has me questioning so much, but I’m still telling her to keep him at a distance….a far, far distance, lol. The deceit, manipulation, and double meaning of words and phrases has me devouring these books and I can’t flipping wait for November because once again Nikki gives us an ending that has me like WTF? I was so shocked and never saw it coming! I’m loving it! I really look for Marist to make a power play in the next book because I think she’s about had enough. #TeamMarist
Favorite series of 2019 so far…if you haven’t started it you’re missing out!
I really have mixed feelings about the plot. I’m super invested in the story and really can’t wait to read what will happen with Marist but I’m having a hard time liking Royce and believing that the love that he and Marist seems to have for each other. Don’t get me wrong I want a HEA but Im just fearing that when it comes it won’t be believable, as right now I know more and are most invested on Macalister than Royce
So I will patiently wait for book 3 and hope that all my fears won’t come true and eat my words!
