The Hale family is obsessed with status, power, and control. No problem is too big their money can’t solve.Royce Hale manipulated me into giving him everything. My virginity. My hand in marriage. My heart. And as soon as he got what he wanted, he callously sold me off for a cool ten million. In the boardroom and the twisted game his family plays, he says the only rule is to win at all costs. … to win at all costs.
Yesterday I learned a painful lesson not to trust the prince of Cape Hill. Today I’ll destroy his carefully laid plans and show him just how badly he’s already lost.
All the money in the world won’t be able to stop me.
The Obsession is the second book of the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and should be read following The Initiation.

Ahhhh!! I can’t stop! Each time I finish one book in this series, I’m one clicking the next!! Dark and twisted and oh so steamy! Nikki Sloane’s writing is impeccable! With every page you’re drawn into this world where money talks and desires are turned on their head. On to the next one NOW!
What a wicked web Nikki Sloane weaves in The Obsession. Book 2 in the Filthy Rich Americans series is a wild tale. The tug of war between Royce and Macalister, with Marist as the prize, has me on the edge of my seat. Just when I think Macalister is the villain of the story, he surprises me…and in some ways, Royce lets me down…
And then there’s Marist. Wow, I think I would love to be in her shoes! She’s got her hands full with the Hale men, and I appreciate how she chooses her battles in order to maintain a bit of control. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, perhaps?
Nikki Sloane has hit all the right notes with this book, this series. Her storytelling is deep and suspenseful, without losing any of the erotic edge she writes so well. I cannot wait for book three!
It’s rare I don’t see something coming, but that ending blindsided me in the best way possible. Can’t wait for the third book!
HOLY WOW!! This book has honestly left me speechless. I was NOT expecting that ending.
This whole thing between Marist and Macalister is maddening but it’s also pretty damn hot!
Royce seriously needs to get his head out of his ass when it comes to his relationship with Marist. If I could reach into a book and smack someone, it would definitely be him. Speaking of Marist, the poor girl must have some serious whiplash with all this back and forth between Royce and his father.
Macalister is a world-class manipulator and does whatever it takes to get what he wants, no matter who he hurts in the process. I’d be more than happy to give him his 2 minutes!

STORY
I was very disappointed in this book. Book one was so so, however, book two, I was so bored. I felt as though I was on a treadmill running in the same spot, but frustrated because I am going nowhere. It lacks excitement and anticipation for me. You get a bit of shock factor with Macalister, Royce’s father, but I didn’t want to keep reading about him. The author teeter on that line a bit with Marist and Macalister of, will they? I also think to soften the blow, the author kept noting Macalister did not look his age at 50, but younger.
I felt in this book Royce was pushed to the background and that’s what made this unappealing for me. He just seemed weak, not demanding, commanding, or sexy for me. The cliffhanger looked as though it was going to breed a monster, but; he went soft.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Intimacy I was not a fan of. Macalister crossed the line a lot. I am open for anything, but this book felt more about Macalister and Marist.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Secondary characters were ok, no growth for me.
OVERALL
Interesting start in book one, but my interest has declined in book two.
TRIGGERS:
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
Ah. Sadly quite disappointed in this sequel.
The Obsession picks up right where the The Initiation left off so it is not recommended you read this sequel before reading The Initiation.
Marist feels betrayed. Royce Hale has not just taken her whole life, but now her heart too. And he has stomped on it all. He chose to take most of his fathers company shares, just so Macalister could “own” his fiance. Marist is stuck. She doesn’t know who she can turn to or where to go from here.
“The best lies he told with his lips were the ones where he didn’t use words.”
To be honest, not much happens in the first 80% of this book. I was bored – And I hate saying that word when I am reading a book!! But I just felt nothing much happened. Marist fights off Macalister’s advances again and again, while Royce tries to get Marist to trust him again.
The end 20% was dark & twisted. The maze scene is just, I don’t even know how to describe it or think about it. For those dark steamy twisted fans – You will probably enjoy it. Which is usually me too (haha) but I felt uncomfortable. Do Marist & Macalister ever have sex? No. But gosh Macalister crosses that line too often. And the fact that Marist is his son’s fiance is just even more twisted.
The ending is another cliffhanger, but I don’t know if it was enough for me to read the next book in the series; The Deception. I may at a later date… Maybe.
2 – 2.5/5 stars (I can’t decide) with 2/5 steam.
This series had me evaluating my life. I love Mcalister Hale and rooted for him the entire series. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait for Vance’s story.
When I finished the first book,I immediately jumped into this one.And it took me only two days to read it.I hated it and that’s why I didn’t bother to review it for over a month.
I thought that maybe with a little bit of time my thoughts will cool off,but that wasn’t the case.
I hate this book.
I have to say that the writing was still really good and engaging but the story-line just took a really bad turn.
First book left me with a lot of expectations regarding the relationship between Marist and Royce and between Marist and Macalister-but I was very disappointed.
Marist and Royce are the main couple here and I wanted to see them interact and build their relationship,at the end they are supposed to get married. That didn’t happened. You can count with your ten fingers the number of times these two interacted.By the end of the book I was so frustrated with this situation, especially with the way Marist behaved.
When it comes to Macalister and Marist-the little infatuation Macalister had with her in the first book is taken to a whole another level here. Most scenes between them made me sick, totally grossed out, sick and sick.Honestly, the way he behaved with Marist is disgusting and creepy.
The third thing that bothered me the most was Marist. She was nothing like the girl from the first book. Her actions were stupid and sometimes I felt like she actually wasn’t all that much bothered with what Macalister was doing to her.
The ending was not all that much surprising-poor Alice, she probably had enough.
I have to give this book one star-there was really nothing that I liked here.
I dove straight into this book after finishing The Initiation. This book picked up right where book 1 left off. Marist is a little badass negotiating her way into things with MacAlister. However, she loses some ground with him in this book and ends up having to play chess with him every night. He takes her freedom away by taking her car and controlling her even more. He’s angry he didn’t get his 2 minutes with her at the initiation and makes it clear his time with her will come. This book was super twisted and addictive, and I devoured it as fast as I could. I was left again with a huge cliffhanger that had my jaw on the floor! I’m diving straight into book 3, The Deception!!!
I was unable to put this book down. I didn’t think these characters could become anymore wicked than they were, but the author proved me wrong. Between the depraved sexy times and the plot twists, I’m either fanning myself or anxious about what could happen next. Yes, this also ends with a cliffhanger, but next book ends Marist and Royce’s story as is my understanding.
The Hale family is obsessed with status, power and control. Royce Hale manipulated Marist and then sold her to his father, Macalister. Marist is hurt and plans to destroy Royce’s plans and show him how badly he has lost. – I continue to like Marist and Royce but do not like their lies. This is an unusual story line, but I am sure it happens in the real word (just not mine). The book is disturbing in some ways but a good read. Note that this is a trilogy. You need to read all three books to get the complete story.
Book 2 of Filthy Rich Americans series and the twists just get twisty-er!! Bought this right after closing book 1, and was extremely thankful book 3 was available right away!
I felt a sort of disconnect between Royce and Marist in this book and more of a building “relationship” between her and Malicaster. I put relationship in quotation for a reason, one you will understand if you read this series. Every encounter with them is powerful and such an odd thing for me to wrap my head around. He’s her future father in law…how do they have this underlying connection? And the bigger question is, how am I okay with it??? My emotions in regards to this are fueled by Marist’s resistance, so to speak. Idk if that’s the correct word to describe her feelings towards Macalister, but that’s the one I’m gonna use. The dynamics between Marist and Royce, and Marist and Macalister are so different. It’s all such a power struggle and game. It’s hard to wrap your mind around the situations in this book that Marist finds herself in, but Nikki does a phenomenal job of making you live the experience and moments through Marist’s eyes.
Win at all costs…that is the name of the game, and man, the stakes are HIGH! Just know that the “game of chess” between Marist, Royce and Macalister continues in this book and I have NO IDEA who will win in the end. Nor do I know WHOM I want to win. I will say I want Marist to come out as the victor, but my heart and my mind are divided with everything else.
5 stars
Boy oh Boy… Where do I begin? I purchased the first book in this series because of the seemingly never ending positive reviews. Needless to say it was nothing like what I’d expected. I can honestly say as an avid reader, I have never, and I mean never read a book or series like this. Simply put, this series is uniquely twisted and has a lot of cringeworthy and possibly triggering moments. Beware. BUT…Despite that being so, the author’s writing of itself is good. She is masterful in creating suspense and anticipation. The plot twist and unforeseen events were captivating and what essentially made me continue the series despite my discomfort. She’s very good at hooking the reader and created deep, complex, multidimensional characters. Even though the story line of itself was very difficult to digest because of its nature, it did not diminish the excellence of the author’s writing ability. I would actually love to read a book written by this author in the psychological thriller genre.
Calling this book The Obsession is really right. I’m completely obsessed with this wicked series and its challenging, engaging characters. I’m so glad I found it when I only had to wait a few days for the finale.
Boring!
Author Nikki Sloane has done it again with the second installment of the Filthy Rich Americans Series, The Obsession. It’s very rare that I’m surprised by what’s happening in a book, I can figure out plots pretty quickly! Nikki Sloane’s story line and ending left me jaw dropped! I’m still thinking about the ending! If you haven’t read this series do so now!
Wow I was blown away by The Initiation and The Obsession was equally as intense and captivating. Marist has to continue down a path that the rules apply for someone else’s benefit, where she will have to make choices to compromise herself again and again, and the worst part McAlistar has put a huge barrier between Marist & Royce. The one thing that Marist felt certain could get her through anything in The Initiation was Royce and now Marist feels she can trust no one. This book pushes limits, keeps you in suspense, is emotional and scandalous and again has mind blown of cliff hangers. I am anxiously awaiting the last book, The Deception to see how it all comes together in this amazing trilogy.
What a mind bending F’ed up book, but it an ‘OMG what the hell just happened’ way. The Obsession in book two in Nikki Sloane Filthy Rich American Series and picks right up from the cliffhanger that we say in book one, so with that being said, if you haven’t read The Initiation, then you need to, especially if you want to read one hell of a rollercoaster series.
The twist and turns that we experienced in this addition to the series, left me with series whiplash. I could never have seen what was going to happen in this story and the cliffhanger that we are left with was a WTF moment and if you saw that twist, then bravo!!
Just like in the first book, I connected to Marist character from the get go and when I started reading The Obsession that connection was there once again. She is such a strong character, one that is growing as she learns about the world she has been reluctantly introduced to. She has the skills to adapt to anything and she is slowly growing into her skin and becoming a woman to be reckoned with!
While we didn’t get to see much of Royce, when we did see him with Marist the chemistry between the two characters ignited and certainly left this reader a little hot under the collar. It will be interesting to see what Nikki Sloane does with this character.
Now, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Macalister, Royce’s father. Ruthless and relentless, he is willing to do anything and everything to make sure he wins, no matter the cost. The object of his obsession is Marist. For me this character grew the most and you got to see how his roll could change the outcome in Marist and Royce’s relationship. I seriously cant wait to see what happens.
Overall, this was a fantastic read. It is filled with drama, tension, chemistry and mystery. Book three is releasing in November and I can’t wait to see where Nikki intends to take us. This series is proving to be one of the best series I have read from Nikki and she is definitely highlighting my love for her work.
After the emotional ending of The Initiation, I could not stop thinking about Filthy Rich Americans. When The Obsession hit my kindle, my heart stilled, literally. Like the first book, I consumed Marist and Royce story, with flushed cheeks and shaking hands.
The Obsession is hotter, more depraved and filled with manipulative and cunning people who are ready to do everything in their power to win. And Marist is the price.
This time we have two players. Two successful, handsome, intelligent and greedy men, Macalister and his son Royce. Both, they have their own reasons to own Marist. But she isn’t some land to conquer. She is the bravest and fierce woman. Beautiful and smart she wants to win her and Royce freedom but Macalister won’t give up so easily. He is a master of mental manipulation and has fantasies.
All these twist and turns made me torn. At one time I was team Macalister and then switched to team Royce. And in the end, I am team Marist because I want her to win and be free. Because the things she does…
You thought The Initiation was dirty? This was nothing. Prepare for a very intense and emotional ride. Nobody is trustworthy and the ending left me breathless! I need the last book like tomorrow!
