When Lila Moore inherits her grandfather’s house, she finds herself in a small Midwestern town where margarine is never an acceptable substitution for butter, a coveted family recipe can serve as currency, and the friend who will take your darkest secrets to the grave will still never give you the secret to her prize-winning begonias.
Lila is charmed by the people of Auburn, from the blue-eyed … blue-eyed lawyer with the southern drawl to the little old lady who unceasingly tries to set Lila up with her grandson. But when strange things begin to happen, Lila realizes some of her new friends are guarding a secret like its a precious family heirloom. It’s a dangerous secret, and it has come back to haunt them. Lila is caught in the middle, and her life may depend on uncovering it. But even if she can, can she stay in Auburn when not everyone is what they seem, and even the house wants her gone?

Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.
It kept my attention. I didn’t know if it was a mystery, romance or horror as I was reading it. It kept me interested to the very end. Easy to read. Likeable characters.
This was just a fun, easy to read book.
Slow starting
Fun for an escape. Not super-well written, but entertaining and kept my interest.
Enjoyably different.
A very entertaining story! It kept me entertained throughout. Quirky characters and unique situations.
The Obituary Society was a delightful read. I loved how the older busy-bodies or the obituary ladies all play an important part in the mystery. I will recommend it as a book club read when our book club meets again.
I definitely want these ladies to write my obituary!
It’s hard not to be interested in all these characters. Famiky all have their quirks but most everyone does want a happily ever after; only this story will make you work at it and wonder if it will stay.
I enjoyed reading it very muvh
If you have ever lived in a small town, you will be able to identify with this book.
This was a nice easy read. I would continue to read the series.
It had unexpected turns.
I just had to finish this book. I couldn’t put it down. It started pretty ordinary and got more complex as it went along. You fall in love with Lila and laugh and cry at the situations she finds herself in. Her elderly aunts and the townspeople. Try to shield her from the many secrets of the town.
I really liked this book. The characters were colorful and fun. Anyone from a small town knows people like the characters in this book. I liked the otherworldly aspect of the book as well. I would definitely recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book a lot. I found the characters really interesting. How the group deals with loss and the end of life. The narrative and dialogue were well written. The book was easy to read and kept the reader’s interest. I look forward to the next instalment.
