This thriller grabbed me right from the beginning. Someone is shot and within days the murderer has become a serial killer. Can FBI Agents Heslin and Rivera solve this case quickly? This book is fast paced with a twisting plot and the characters are well written. The book will bring you straight in to a psychotic woman’s mind from the very beginning and you still won’t understand it all until the end. I highly recommend it
Fantastic from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book it was unusual to know who the killer was but it worked well and helped build up the suspense. The story is told from from a number of perspectives, the main two being the killer and the FBI agent hunting the killer down. I liked the characters and the way they work out what was going on. The touch of romance added spice to the story without getting in the way of solving the case.
Agent Heslin is called in when the star witness in an organised crime trail is found dead but would a hitman really leave a calling card? And why number two? Who is number one and will there be more ? These are just a few of the question Heslin and her partner Rivera must answer if they stand a chance of catching the killer. Then another body is found with another number and this time a message directed personally to the agents themselves. This victim has no connection to organised crime and the pair struggle to come up with a connection. Does someone have a list and just how many people are on it?
I liked the narrator and could always tell which character was talking making it an enjoyable story to listen to. I will be looking out for the next book in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. No profanity and clean. The twist at the end of the book I never anticipated.
Reminded me that there are some real disturbed people out there..
The Numbers Killer by Jenifer Ruff is a contemporary murder mystery psychological thriller. This well-written original storyline follows and brings to life the tortured soul of the murder as she commits the crimes and chooses her next victim. The heroine and her partner are FBI agents who are working what would have been expected to be a professional mob hit except for the number 2 and the word LIAR written on the victim’s forehead. More bodies are found with numbers and random words on their foreheads and nothing is adding up until the murderer makes is personal!
This fast-paced story is gripping and full of suspense, action, and drama. The world building and complex characters are expertly delivered and makes you feel like your there. And, I loved the great plot twist at the end! This is the first book I’ve read written by this author and I look forward to the next book in this series.
Happy Reading!
I Love a good mystery/suspense book, but this book is not good, it is GREAT! I started it before bed and stayed up all night, because I couldn’t stop reading! The characters are so engaging and the way that Ms. Ruff writes kept me wanting more. When I finished the last page and the last word, as the sun rose in the sky, I wanted to reread. I have now found my new Favorite Suspense/Mystery Author in Jenifer Ruff!
I received a copy of this book from Jenifer Ruff and I am submitting a voluntary review. Fantastic!!! Jenifer is a new author for me and I wasn’t sure I would like this book. The day I received it and started reading I could not put it down!!! Suspense, adventure, intrigue, and thrills abound in this story of mistaken murder. Everyone who enjoys a good mystery/thriller will love this book. Enjoy!
What a roller coaster ride!! This is an exciting psychological thriller. A great mystery/suspense. The storyline was well developed and the “good guys” are very relateable. This is a great series and I highly recommended it.
It was a good book, aside from the annoying main characters obsession with dogs. At one point I wanted to vomit.
A real page turner. You work through the story with the murderer as she moves through multiple murders, however you are only given a few very subtle hints as to why the individuals are being murdered. It all revolves around an event that is a surprise not revealed to the reader until the end. Read this book and see if you guess the surprise before it is revealed!
Hard to get started..
Great book.
I would’ve liked this book better if the heroine made up her mind between her suitors instead of leading them both on. The ending was pretty good except for that.
Very entertaining and enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book!
Gripping read -unpredictable very good book
When the first victim is murdered with a number scrawled on his forehead, the FBI assumes it was a mob hit. After all, he was the key witness in an organized crime trial. However, when more people start to turn up dead, things aren’t so clear. Enter Victoria Heslin. When Victoria starts to receive cryptic messages from who she believes to be the killer, her window of time to solve the case begins to close. Delaying it might mean her own death.
I think the most interesting part of this book was trying to get in the killer’s head and figure out why she was doing what she was. That was the mystery part of this book because we know who the killer is all along. I liked that little mix up on the genre. It made the read a lot more intense to me. The interchanging POVs between killer and special agent amped up the suspense and made it hard to find stopping points. It’s for that reason I tried to listen to the entire book in one go. It had me hooked.
Victoria was a great character. She was kind and determined. A very easy to understand main character and for that reason, it was easy to cheer her on. I think the killer was my favorite character though just because she was such an enigma.
There was plenty of intrigue and foreshadowing, and I love that I couldn’t outright guess what would happen next.
Narration was perfect for this story.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
Didn’t see that coming
Loved this book. I actually bought this one along with the 2nd in the series Pretty Little Girls. I reccommend these books. Totally different storylines, but same great FBI characters. Both are action packed thrillers and I love Victoria’s character.
I couldn’t fifish it
