The holiday season can’t be over soon enough for John Hall. His ex-boyfriend emptied the bank accounts and ran off with his personal trainer months earlier leaving John unable to pay his creditors. Now he’s forced to close the movie theater he owns, a bad end to a bad year. Gay, single and closer to fifty than forty, John doesn’t see a lot of hope in his future. In the dark of night, he wonders … wonders if staying afloat is worth the effort.
Chance Allsop made a promise to his dying mother he hopes he doesn’t regret. Ten months after her death he’s finally in Skagit Washington, visiting the old movie theater where his parents met and fell in love decades ago. The whole thing seems like a lark until he lays eyes on the handsome owner. With his mother’s spirit at his back Chance fully intends to win John Hall’s heart.

This was a great holiday addition to the Accidental Roots series. John and Chance were lovely characters, both dealing with a painful loss as they come together in this season of miracles. I loved every minute of it and although it was short it still packed an emotional punch.
Romance rises to save the day. I couldn’t help but root for these guys from the first chapter…. Loosely related to the Christmas movie classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but the two lead characters helped you into the Christmas spirit… with a little steam!!
This Christmas novella was a lot of fun. Poor John was going through a really hard time, both personally and professionally – though the issues were related. He wasn’t in the mood for Christmas, friends, or fun; and he definitely wasn’t in the right frame of mind for being open to a new love.
None of that mattered to Chance. He traveled to Skagit, Washington, from England to fulfill a promise he made to his dying mother. He wasn’t expecting to find his future there, but he was most definitely open to the challenge of convincing John that they could have something special together.
Add in a kitten with attitude, townspeople who looked out for each other, and a little drama from some not-so-nice people, and you have a terrific little story. I liked it!
A Christmas miracle… John and Chance’s love story is one of friendship, hard work, hope, dreams and a promise. All these together created a very sweet and special tale just perfect for a Christmas read in July. Exactly what I needed to enlighten my day in this difficult moments. Loved it!
Love the Accidental Roots series, and this holiday story is a great addition. John and Chance are both dealing with losses, though different kinds, and John especially is totally disillusioned by everything at this point. But fate (or Chance’s late mom, if you must) intervenes and with a dying promise to fulfill, Chance makes his way to the place his parents fell in love so long ago. It just so happens John owns the failing theater, and what happens next is a wonderful, sexy holiday story full of love, loss, hope, moving on, and love finding you in the most unexpected ways. And of course, all the reasons we love going back to the town of Skagit over and over again..
I really, really loved this story, but I wanted more. An epilogue of the next Christmas, Chance proposing to John, Edmund finding someone or taking to Reed, The Northstar open and busy. I like this town and this little group. I want to see them all get their HEA!
I loved John and Chance. I loved their story, and their relationship. I really enjoyed reading their story and watching their relationship begin and grow. John and Chance were the perfect fit, and balanced each other out well.
I really loved this story. John is having a really bad time this year. His ex drained the bank accounts and ran off, leaving John holding the bag. Now John is losing the theater he loves because he has no money to pay the mortgage, and his mood is pretty dark. Enter Chance. He is fulfilling a promise to his mother to go on after she passes and visit the theater where his parents met. He arrives to find the theater closing, but discovers John and a stray kitten. It’s insta-love at first sight. Will Chance be able to rebuild John’s faith in the season, in life, and in love? This is a short, low-angst Holiday story that really touches the heart. I loved John and Chance (and the kitten, of course!) There is a little drama, reappearance of the ex, an unexpected villain, and plenty of Christmas miracles. Absolutely loved it!

Even though I’ve followed this series and liked Edmund’s story, Chance and John’s story still exceeded my expectations. The premise and setting drew me in, and the delivery was outstanding. I truly enjoyed this Christmas romance and will recommend it to anyone!

This was a rather lovely M/M read. I found the characters to be endearing and their growth was great. The plot was great and the twist towards the end was a bit of a surprise but I enjoyed it. It was well written and the emotions between the two characters were very clear to the reader. There were very many hidden gems and references throughout the work that makes it awesome.
I give this a five out of five stars. I found the plot and characters to be adorable and found I couldn’t put it down.

I’ve read several books written by Elle Keaton; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some “oh no” “oh wow” ” what the what” moments and add in uncanny mishaps, holiday magic and shenanigans the good kind that makes you turn the page until there are no more to turn. John had fallen in love with a jerk who broke him emotionally, financially and on the verge of losing his theater he loved so much. In walks in sexy Chance with a little sprinkle of Christmas magic and a lot of love because he knew from the moment he saw John he knew they were meant to be with each other and he wasn’t stopping until John saw it and felt so do they get their HEA?
The NorthStar is a beautifully written sweet holiday story with all the feels. John is the owner of The NothStar Theater and is in financial trouble. He doesn’t want to close but he feels he doesn’t have a choice. Chance has come to the small town of Skagit from London to keep a promise he made to his mother. When he finds out the the theater isn’t open and showing movies he takes it upon himself to change that. I loved watching the community come together to support John and help show him how much they do care about him and keeping the theater open. Chance is just who John needed. I love their instant connection and the kitten they found together. This is a story to be enjoyed again and again. Definitely recommend.

This holiday story is not only of saving a theater but one that saves John’s heart and gives him and Chance a happily ever after they both want. A fast moving romance that has an ex that’s difficult but it also has a villain of whom, I have to admit, I didn’t see coming. His appearance came from nowhere and his animosity was unexplained, at least for me it was. The story was interesting it just had pieces that I didn’t connect. A HEA came for the heroes, which I found nice, and the m/c’s went off into the sunset together, happily.

John is losing his movie theater because when John’s ex left he took all of John’s money. Chance made his mother a promise that he would visit the town where his mother and father meet. They meet at a movie theater. When he sees John he knows that John is the one. He just has to convince John. I really enjoyed this short story.
The Romancing of John Hall…I love it!
This is one of those feel good stories, that shows that good always overcome evil. John is down on his luck…thinking he is about to lose his theater. Out of nowhere comes this beautiful Brit being pushy and telling him everything is going to be OK. Chance is there, leaving his home country due to a promise he made to his mother. What he found was the person he is going to have his happily ever after with. Now he has to try and convince John who is scared to start again with relationships…So Chance started his campaign: “The romancing of John Hall”. I got so many feels reading this story and fell in love with both Chance and John. I was introduced to them first in Elle’s Over the Hill book and knew I had to read their coming together. I’m glad I did. This was a special holiday romance and I think others will enjoy it too.

The NorthStar is a book about overcoming adversity and love at first sight. John and Chance’s story is sweet and a really nice Christmas story. It was extremely well written and was a heartwarming story. The characters are interesting and develop over the course of the book. The story continues with more characters in Over the Hill, but both can be read as a standalone as there are a HEA and no cliffhangers.

Magic can happen at Christmas! We meet John just as he receives a letter from the bank, a notice of foreclosure of his beloved theatre, The Northstar. He visits the bank and the loan officer, Colin Short is typically unhelpful and indifferent to his story. His ex boyfriend Rico, emptied his bank accounts and ran up his credit cards. John was spiraling deep into depression. He was ready to prepare his theatre for bank possession. Chance, made a death bed promise to his American Mom, to visit the Northstar Theatre. She had met his Father there from a series of circumstances that led to the chance. The pickup line was sooo romantic! When John first saw Chance, his first thought was gratitude that he took a shower and put on clean clothes, so he was good. Chance and John, were both attracted to the man before him. They carried the agist baggage of being in their 40s and still single. Chance was open to a new relationship. John was slower thinking he was still getting over Rico. Can John save The Northstar? Can Chance save John? Does John get his money back from Rico? Delightful story. Some really nice twists that make the story pop. Well done! I hope this turns into a fun story. I want to see what happens to Reed his parents, and Chance’s friend, Edmund. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Nice cover art!
This was an awesome Christmas/Holiday romance. John is losing his business; his ex has racked up CC debt just before he left. Chance has promised his mother on her death bed that he would go to America and see the Northstar theatre. There he meets John at his lowest point. Chance feels like he’s met the one. I loved this story!! It had a great cast of secondary character. Sooo good. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advance copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
This is an uplifting (Christmas) story with an “It’s a Wonderful Life” moment or two. Very sweet. And a quick read. Loved the kitten!
The ARC only had a few proofreading issues.
