The Norse Sorcerer is the second book in the Vikings of Highgard by Leigh Ann Edwards. This series shows the growth of the author as well as the characters. The first series I read written by her had the same main characters throughout the entire series. This one has a trio of sisters which each book being mainly about one. The first book, The Norse Protector does much of the world building and dangers that these last three are facing that I would recommend the books be read in order for that reason. Still I found this story to be self-contained as far as Brenna and Mikkel the Black go.
The story is long but much happens along the way of Brenna, the healer coming to earth. As she is still adjusting she meets Mikel, their journey is as treacherous as the first sister’s journey. Along the way trust must be build, unknowns must be revealed and problems must be solved. To find love along the way is a bonus for both of them. Still the overarching theme is not complete even as the sisters are reunited. One more book in this excellent fantasy must be coming which I look forward to reading.
4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 Stars. A fantasy Viking romance. For me the storyline was hard to follow at the start. Felt like I was missing information. (It probably would have helped if I had read the first book in the series.) There’s so many side characters in the storyline to keep up with also. I did enjoy Mikkel and Brenna’s characters. Mikkel is a leader, dark, dangerous, passionate and has a well known reputation. Brenna is a seer, one that is a peacekeeper, an empathy, a healer. They are on a journey to rescue a kidnapped friend. Their fate/destiny draws them together and won’t be denied no matter how much they might fight it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.

She believes their fates are inexplicably connected…
To escape the Red Death and search for her sister, radiantly beautiful and ever-gentle, Brenna the Healer, of the line of the Norse goddess Solveig, is sent to the human world from the realm of Highgard. Brenna finds it difficult to adjust to this peculiar land and its ruthless people. She longs to return home, but because of a mysterious seer’s vision, she knows it’s her destiny to find love in the arms of a Viking warrior.

My review :
When an out of this wold healer meets a damaged country mate, can she cures the illness tainting his soul…
As second in a series, even if this one book has the events of the first one summarized, I would recommend to read this series in order, to comprehend all the different aspects of this incredible adventure offered out of the mind of Mrs Leigh Ann Edwards.
So be prepared for an epic tale.
Brenna as described by the old seer is the meek one, the only lacking of physical strength but also the one with her mind more easily perturbed. Sure an empath is easily distressed, plus she is like a baby when she left her world behind. Everything is so new to her.
So in order to grew up, and fast as the humans world is no restful place, she will make mistakes, a lot of them, causing havoc around her, hurting people too.
My few reservations about her are, for a peacekeeper and empath, she is unable to listen when people wants to protect her, then in the process she causes harm. Also her obsession with intercourses, for a sheltered woman and one who declared at the beginning she has few interest in sexuality, if I can understand her curiosity, I too felt it occupied too many pages. Plus I dislike a woman whom looks at two men at the same time, even if it was not really a love triangle, it is a trope I do hate.
While Mikkel is like I love my heroes, a broken man, strong in appearance but with so many scars marking his soul.
At a time I wondered if Mrs Edwards would give a voice to Mikkel, as she didn’t hand him her story before it reached the one-third mark.
Sure he was presented as the vilain in the first book, but when his past is explained, my heart rooted for him, he is as much a victim as an artisan of his own life. He has in his own way suffered as much as Brandr. Why he reacts like a wounded animal, when cornered, he strikes and bites.
What is seen as his sins and misdeeds are only responses to his own pain. This is what made him more real, he makes mistakes, he pays their prizes, he also pains to apologize when his pride and trust are altered.
Because of his mother, he is marked as a shadowy spirit, when he longs only for the little girl he has seen in his dreams and brings hope to his weary mind.
There are many more protagonists as we see again those from the previous books plus some new ones.
So sit down cosily and and step aboard Mrs Edwards’s boat for a grand journey.
