This is a must read for every fan of Norse mythology fan. Even if you have not read or seen much Norse mythology you will love these books. This urban fantast trilogy is the perfect mix of modern world with accident gods roaming this world among us.
Follow Solina as she discovers she is part of a world she never thought was real and as she learns so much she never even thought of. She uncovers secrets she was never meant to know, which puts her in danger and on the run. During her journey she meets some new people but quickly learns that she can’t trust everybody and people will betray her to stop her from finding out too much.
All three books are jammed packed with action, laughter, sass and just the right amount of romance and they will keep you on the edge of your seat with some pretty big and awesome plot twists.
Overall, I highly enjoyed all three books and can only recommend them. I rate it 4 ½-5
Midnight Burning – 4.5
This story was told from Solina’s point of view so we know as much as she does, which is nothing, other than her brother seems to have been killed by a wolf. There are so many questions that arise that remain unanswered until close to the end, which leaves you with a cliffhanger. The build-up to that cliffhanger was brilliantly written. Even with all the unanswered questions I felt like I really knew each character, choices they would make and how they would react. Ms. Laurel did an excellent job turning this centuries old myth into a present day possibility.
The characters are awesome, you have the simple Solina, the tomboy Skyla, the brooding Thorin, and the laid back comedian Val. I loved getting to know each and every one of them. Solina is the perfect daughter, doesn’t rock the boat in any way but on this journey she starts to overcome her fears and learn to live. Skyla is the perfect friend, she comforts yet doesn’t let Solina wallow for too long. Thorin, well he seems to love control but doesn’t seem to like to communicate which was a total piss me off. And Val seems to just want to get laid lol. It’s more than that but I don’t want to give anything away.
Artic Dawn – 4
Wow, talk about some major twists and turns. I was not expecting the betrayal of a certain someone, that totally shocked me. And now I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. The relationship between Solina and Thorin is frustrating, just get together already lol. And all the revelations about Skyla… very interesting and I look forward to what that means going forward. There’s so much corruption and betrayal that it’s hard to know who to trust.
Favorite quote:
“My body had gone zombie, and coffee was the braaains it craved.” – Solina
Molten Dusk – 5
That was such a fun ride! Solina is one of my favorite female characters. She’s not afraid to admit fear but she’s not willing to let it rule her life either. She stands up for what she believes in and won’t back down. Such a great ending! As much as I hate that this series is over I absolutely loved reading it! Other than a few spots of “down time” it was nonstop action and adventure with a bit of romance (finally)near the end. If you’re looking for a modern Norse tale then look no more.
