A Cross-Country Trip through Regency England Brings Intrigue, Rogues, and High Adventure The must-read conclusion to Michelle Griep’s Bow Street Runners Trilogy: Life couldn’t be better for Abigail Gilbert—but it’s been a long time in coming. Having lived with a family who hated her, it’s finally her time for love. Abby sets off on a journey across England to marry one of the most prestigious … of the most prestigious gentlemen in the land—until highwaymen upset her plans and threaten her life.
Horse patrol captain Daniel Thatcher arrives just in time to save Abby. But she’s simply another victim in a job he’s come to despise. Tired of the dark side of humanity, he intends to buy land and retire.
Abby pleads with him to escort her for the rest of her journey. He refuses—until she offers him something he desperately needs to achieve his goal. . .money. Delivering her safely will give him more than enough to buy property.
So begins an impossible trek for the cynical lawman and the proper lady. Each will be indelibly changed by the time they reach her betrothed, if they don’t kill one another first—or fall in love.

Samuel Thatcher would make any woman’s heart thunder and her pulse race! Not only for his dark good looks, but for the heart of a hero that beats beneath a brooding facade. Too many years of being a Bow Street runner has jaded his opinion of people and convention be hanged, he won’t allow a slip of a girl make him soft. Abigail Gilbert is his perfect opposite, not backing down when he scowls (or growls) at her. These two are fun to watch! And there’s plenty of action and danger around the corner to keep your heart rate up. Simply put, there’s seriously nothing I don’t like about this story. I always know I’m in for a treat with a Michelle Griep book.
*I received a complimentary ARC from the author and was not obligated to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own. *
Whew, what a conclusion to this series! So very well written. I was engaged from the first paragraph. So much emotional pain for Abigail. Was her life about to turn around for the better? You need to read to find out. Descriptions painted a movie screen to see what was taking place. Loved it. Highly recommend. I received a copy from the publisher. Opinions are my own.
Michelle Griep is a master storyteller. This latest offering doesn’t disappoint!
The Noble Guardian is a exceptional book with wonderful characters. Captain Thatcher is your dreamy and rugged guardian, Abby is short tempered and determined to be loved. On their journey to Brakewell Hall many obstacles come into play that help each character grow .
Michelle Griep does a wonderful job of drawing the reader into the story and opening our hearts to the troubles and sorrow some of the characters have to endure. There is action, romance and suspense all the makings of a story that keeps you holding your breath until the last page. Storytelling at its finest!
Was given a complimentary copy. All. opinions are my own.
The Noble Guardian is one of the best books I have read by this author. I have enjoyed all of her books but this one just stood out to me. I loved this romantic story. It had lots of action, and awesome characters. Especially little Emma. The hero is a bow street runner and is a brooding captain who has lived a hard life. The heroine is a lovely, naive, yet spunky young woman looking for an ever lasting love. The chemistry between them is evident from the first time they meet. I loved it!!
*I was given a copy of this book by Barbour publishing and this is my honest opinion.
This book is absolutely wonderful!! It is beautifully written and the author makes the people and scenery come to life. This is the shining example that all things are possible with God. I highly recommend this book. Thank you Barbour Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this awesome book. All opinions expressed are my own, I was not required to write a review.
Wanting nothing more than to purchase a piece of land to call his own and retire from the his position with the horse patrol of the Bow Street Runners, Captain Daniel Thatcher’s life quickly becomes more complicated. Stalked by a dangerous criminal, he refuses the offer of employment as an escort across a dangerous stretch of English countryside.
Abigail Gilbert is in danger, in denial, and just wants to be loved. Determined to travel to her fiancé’s estate, she hires Daniel despite his reluctance. And all too soon, there is also the transport of a baby to complicate matters further.
Last in the Bow Street Runners trilogy, The Noble Guardian is a delightful Regency romance that traverses dangerous territory with risks from highwaymen and danger to their hearts. Author Michelle Griep’s writing never disappoints, and this particular entry in the trilogy was a mix of familiar and surprising plot developments along with lead characters that the reader can cheer for. With at least passing mention of previous characters, including one Mister Lucius Nutbrown, it can be read as a standalone. No surprise that I rate The Noble Guardian as “highly recommended” for fans of Historical Fiction, Regencies, and/or Inspirational Romance. I adored Abigail, Daniel, and every bit – despite the lack of comeuppance for her family – of their journey towards their happily ever after.

This story was nothing short of delightful! Samuel finds his perfect solitary existence broken by Abby, a proper lady em route to her betrothed. She has been sent defenseless into the journey by a callous, calculating stepmother (isn’t it ALWAYS the stepmother though?) and a father who could only be bothered to put a dollar amount on her value. Abby works very hard to overcome her insecurities and learn that she has merit far above her dowry, and has a very meaningful development to enrich her faith and personal beliefs. Poor Samuel just doesn’t stand a chance against Abby’s charms, and she can’t resist her handsome, noble captain. Together they travel, adopting an adorable toddler along the way, fighting brigands and blackguards at every turn, including some that should be on their side. I haven’t read the other Bow Street Runners books, but I’m looking forward to working my way backward! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to write a review.
Loved the story. Loved the romance. The H was written great and a good strong character. The h complimented him well. I listend to this as an audiobook and it made my work around the house and errands better. The story unfolded nice and good flow to the story. I really like this author. While there are Christian themes it’s not overbearing or preachy.
My first by Michelle Griep, but it won’t be my last. A well-crafted Inspirational Historical Romance. Characters you quickly care about and solid plot. Ms Griep weaves history, inspiration, and plot seamlessly together in this tale.
The Noble Guardian was my introduction to Michelle Griep’s writing. I received an advanced reader copy and I was so excited to read it that I didn’t realize it is the third book in the Bow Street Runners trilogy so I read it before the others. But, no matter – Michelle’s story grabbed my attention and didn’t let it go until the very last word was read. With just the right blend of action, adventure, and intriguing romance, The Noble Guardian did not disappoint!
This book was amazing. I love Michelle stories and how she develops her characters. This has action and love and swoony moments. Ahhhhh!
I throughly loved this book! The story had action, clean romance and faith. I highly recommend.
i LIKE BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN IT TRUE VICTORIAN STYLE
I’m so so sorry to see this series end!
Hopefully, Michelle Griep will bless us with a new series soon…
Anyway, about the finale of the The Bow Street Runners Trilogy, it couldn’t have been any better! I totally loved it! And I think Samuel Tatcher is my new favorite hero. I watched him through out the previous books, and he was a truly misterious man: few words, dark and brooding… So I was eager to get to know him better when his turn was due. And I totally fell in love with him! And I loved the cover, as it gave me the perfect image of him, it fitted his personality just perfectly.
Samuel Thatcher, one of England’s Bow Street Runners, is weary of his job and ready to retire. He has seen enough of life’s injustice and sorrow, and all he wishes for is a quiet life for himself. He just needs a little bit of more money so he can finally buy a land he has on mind and then his dream will finally come true. So, he keeps on, hoping the end is almost near, until he meets his match: charming, headstrong and spirited Abigail, during one of his stops at a fateful inn.
Abigail Gilbert is about to reach her dream: to get away from her family that seems to despise her and marry one of the most eligible bachelors she could hope for. She only has to get to his estate which she will have to do by her own means and only her maid to accompany her. She should be able to accomplish that, right? It will be so much worth it. That is, until they are attacked by highway men and Samuel comes to their rescue. Samuel just wants to take them to the next inn and leave them be, but Abby asks him to escort her on her journey. Samuel fights his compassionate heart and rejects her, but her offer is just too tempting: a retribution that will finally let him purchase his land and let him and enjoy some peace…
What he never expects is what the journey will ensue. Danger and adventure along the way and an attraction he immediately denies to himself (he is taking her to her betrothed isn’t he?). Add a sweet babe to the mix who they have to deliver to her aunt and you have a beautiful, sweet, fun, dangerous and gripping story that will keep you wanting for more!
I loved the plot of this story, but I especially loved the characters. Samuel won my heart from the start: his cool, weary and dettached appeareance only hid a soft heart that will show itself when the ones he’s responsable for and growing to love are in need to protection. It was touching to see him be so protective of his charges, and I particularly loved the ironical humor that characterizes him. The banters between him and Abby were a delight to read. And I loved how Abby grows through out the story, from being naive and used to commodities to being a strong woman who will face the challenges life throws her.
The romance was really sweet. And the dangers, the pending marriage which she had idealized, all of it made a truly page Turner of this story.
I definitely reccomend it, as I do with every one of Michelle’s books. But this one in particular is now my new favorite of hers. Can’t wait for her next story!
Beautifully written. Suitable for teens as well.
Historically based
I really liked this book. The characters were very likable.
Absolutely loved this book! 1. Storyline, romance, substance-all there. 2. The heroine is strong and kind with a sense of humor, while the hero is of noble heart, though taciturn and stern. 3. Griep is a first-class Christian author who weaves faith into the story with depth and integrally substantive style rather than an afterthought or twaddle. This is a 5-star Keeper!
I liked it a lot and look forward to the other books in the trilogy.
