“America’s favorite writer” (The New Yorker) begins an all-new trilogy-inspired by the inn she owns and the town she loves.
The historic hotel in BoonsBoro, Maryland, has endured war and peace, changing hands, even rumored hauntings. Now it’s getting a major facelift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect of the family, Beckett’s social life consists mostly of … mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was fifteen…

The Next Always – Nora Roberts – Beckett and his brothers are restoring the local inn from the bones up much to the delight of Lizzie the inn’s resident ghost. While the family business keeps him busy, he is never too busy for Clare the local bookstore owner that he’s had a crush on since high school. When Clare has some scary run-ins with Sam (local creep and spoiled rich boy), Beckett and Lizzie have their work cut out keeping her and her sons safe. This one has the cutest scenes with Beckett and Clare’s boys. Turns me into a gooey marshmallow every time! Happy Reading!
Book 1 of the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy is very interesting as it works to re-do & re-open and old inn. Along the way we meed the Montgomery brothers & Mom who have taken on the project as a family & of course find love along the way. After all this is Norah Roberts!
I’ve been a Nora Roberts fan for years. She’s one of those authors that has found a formula that works and she doesn’t stray far from it, but also manages to keep each story fresh and entertaining. I know that when I pick up a Nora Roberts novel I am going to get well developed characters as well as an interesting plot tied together with an almost magical style of storytelling that makes me feel like I’m in the middle of the action. I can also guarantee that my heartstrings are going to be tugged. And this first installment of her newest trilogy is no exception.
This new series is set in the small New England town of Boonsboro and follows three brothers who are restoring the town’s historical inn. Ms Roberts goes into great detail when describing the construction and design of the place throughout the story, sometimes almost excessively. However, being able to vividly picture the setting only enhances the story. And I can’t wait to read future stories in the series to see the inn be returned to its full glory.
This book in the series follows Beckett, the youngest brother and the project’s architect, and his high school crush, Clare. Clare has returned to town, now a widow with a couple young kids, to open a bookstore. Beckett is finally ready to change their relationship from friends to lovers, but has to overcome some obstacles in his path. I loved watching Beckett tear down all of Clare’s defenses as he woos her. His interactions with her kids are especially touching, yet humorous at the same time. Ms Roberts does a masterful job of portraying the emotions Clare was going through as she dealt with falling in love, yet honoring her late husband and family.
This little corner of New England will be revisited in May 2012 with the release of book 2, The Last Boyfriend, and you’d better bet that I’ll be there to watch Avery and Owen’s relationship bloom.
My review originally posted at Romancing the Book.
I guess I will start by saying that this is another wonderful trilogy by Nora Roberts, and I’m not a bit surprised. I love most everything that Ms. Roberts writes, as I’m sure all her fans do.
The Next Always is Book One in the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy. The town of Boonsboro, Maryland’s historical Inn is being refurbished and renewed by the Montgomery brothers – Ryder, Owen, and Beckett. They are contractors who have taken an unusual interest in the rehabbing of this small town. On Main Street sits the Town Hall, the Inn Boonsboro, Vesta Pizzeria, and Turn the Page Bookstore.
If you pay attention to Nora Roberts and her life, you will know that Turn the Page bookstore is a real place owned and started by Ms. Roberts. The Inn Boonsboro is also a real place. This trilogy is about the “facelift” these places in the town received, and I believe you will see some similarities to Nora Roberts and her family as well.
Beckett Montgomery is an architect and the youngest of the Montgomery brothers. Remodeling the Inn has become a huge event, and he’s drawn to the place by the fabulous history, and the ghost within. The Inn is not the only thing that draws his interest. An old friend from high school has returned and old memories have returned too. He would like to get to know the new Clare—well.
Clare Brewster returns home after her military husband’s death, dragging her three sons along. Determined to make a new life for them in a familiar place, Clare gets a job as manager of Turn the Page Bookstore. She focuses on doing a good job for Justine Montgomery—matriarch of the Montgomery clan and owner of the bookstore. She certainly hadn’t planned a new relationship.
The story is a mixture of family, mysteries, and juicy love scenes—all the things I anticipate in a Nora Roberts’ novel. As we watch the town come to life again and the love blossoming for the Montgomery boys, we enjoy the family bond. The paranormal makes its appearance with the ghost, and the story behind her being there is an interesting one.
I also love the fact that there is a map on the inside flap of each book.
It gets a 10+ on the McBride Moxy Meter
I loved the first chapter, which felt like it was from the house’s point of view, as odd as that sounds.
Pretty straight forward romance. I wouldn’t really categorize it at romantic suspense, but I finished it, and that’s a great sign.
The hero was interesting. I haven’t grabbed the next book yet, but I might.
As always Nora does not disappoint… her books read like poetry, Lyrical and rhythmic.
I need more of this type reads.
one of my favorite books . read it more than once. a must read
I read this book many years ago, one of a trilogy which I also read. Love this authors writing.
This is the first of the Inn Boonsboro trilogy which I read five years ago but decided to re-read. Clare Brewster, a widow with three young sons, has returned to her home town and established Turn the Page, the local bookstore. Beckett Montgomery and his brothers are renovating the century-old hotel across the street that is reputed to be haunted. Beckett has loved Clare since high school and after a little push from the local spirit, he decides to pursue his feelings for the bookseller. I loved the banter between the handsome Montgomery brothers, friendship between Clare, Avery and Hope, and mischievousness of Clare’s three boys and the local ghost. Nora Roberts has a wonderful way with description, dialog and humor in this lively, fast-paced story about Clare’s discovery of her next always with Beckett. Having stayed at the Inn, visited Turn the Page and toured the town, this trilogy meant so much more the second time around.
Great book. Story was light airy and warm. Enjoyable read.
Enjoyed this. Since this is the first one in a trilogy, I’ll be reading the next one. Great characters whom I felt connected to, and a wonderful setting in the inn. My only criticism is that sometimes the inn’s descriptions were a little too heavy-handed.
I love Nora’s books, and I don’t think she’s ever written a bad one. This is one of a trilogy, and they are all good.
A little too predictable but I do want happy endings.
Always enjoy her books!
Another re-read for me.
A nice trilogy-good for a summer read. The Montgomery family is remodeling an old inn in Boonsboro, MD. (Bonus, there really is an Inn Boonsboro and Turn the Page!) There are 3 brothers, who each has a role in the family business. Their mother, Justine, is a strong, powerful woman and a widow. There is also the resident ghost.
This story centers on Beckett and Claire, who went to school together. Clare had married her high school sweetheart, who joined the military. Clint was killed in service shortly after she became pregnant with her 3rd boy. Clare moved home then and opened a book store.
The story alternates between the remodel of the building, which I found interesting, and their budding romance, with children in the mix, and a bad guy with delusions about Clare thrown in.
It is a typical Roberts romance.
Absolutely amazing series. One that I have read multiple times and enjoy just as much as the first time
Not bad! Going to start book 2 of the series.
