Entertaining reading.
I couldn’t put this book down the story seemed so real.
This first book in the newscasters series has grabbed my attention and I will definitely be reading more of the books. I have enjoyed the other books by this author, Snapshot (a historical novel) and the Mia Quinn series, so I had high expectations as I began reading this book. I was not disappointed!
While the main character’s rise to fame might seem a little too quick, when you discover the evil manipulations going on behind the scenes, you understand how and why it happened. There are lots of twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. You’ll hold your breath at the scary moments and cringe as you read about the evil thoughts and intentions of some of the individuals.
This is definitely a book that will grab you and hold on to the final page!
Sort of cheesy. Pretty easy to see what was coming. Still a fun read
Interesting to see inside the TV news business, written by someone who has been there and done that! Five stars.
I received this book for an honest review from Fiction Guild. At first I thought it was going to be slow read but once I started reading the story line and got to know the main character of the story understand that she picked up herself and was trying to make something of herself. I cried at parts and understood that things were hard. Erica is trying to make something of her career after wrecking it by making a bad mistake but getting drunk taking her daughter from her husband and leaving her in a hotel to go and get more alcohol and getting into a accident and losing her daughter and her job in one big mistake. She goes to rehab and find a job in a local tv station as a reporter and gets the chance to make it big in a bigger market in NYC, but things start to getting really strange and things happen around her and scare her and the thought of losing her life and getting her daughter harmed and possibly losing everything. I would recommended this books to everyone.
Following a stint in rehab, Erica Sparks landed a new job as a field reporter for GNN. In a short amount of time, she is catapulted from obscurity to stardom. Initially Erica feels she has been in the right place at the right time to catch major breaking news, but soon she begins to wonder if something sinister is at play. With a story that could easily translate to the big screen, author Lis Wiehl has put herself on my radar.
I went into this story with an open mind, because Lis Wiehl is a new-to-me author. I believe the author’s experience in News emanates from the main character and lends credibility to the story. With cyber security being such a hot topic in the media, Lis capitalizes on it well for this book, albeit on a rather grandiose and slightly unbelievable scale.
A few scenes involving Nylan Hastings compel me to mention that The Newsmakers is a little gritty and not a “clean read.” For me, the romance between Erica and Greg came on a little too quickly, yet Erica’s character is well developed with a solid backstory. Despite a few cable television worthy moments, the themes of forgiveness, faith, and restoration are woven throughout the book.
Overall, I’m happy to have been introduced to Lis Wiehl’s writing. I believe this work of contemporary Christian fiction will appeal to broad audience both inside and outside of the genre.
