The New Husband is a riveting thriller about the lies we tell ourselves from D. J. Palmer, the author of Saving Meghan. What makes Simon Fitch so perfect?-He knows all her favorite foods, music, and movies. -Her son adores him. He was there when she needed him most. -He anticipates her every need. -He would never betray her like her first husband. The perfect husband. He checks all the boxes.… like her first husband.
The perfect husband. He checks all the boxes.
The question is, why?
Nina Garrity learned the hard way that her missing husband, Glen, had been leading a double life with another woman. But with Glen gone—presumably drowned while fishing on his boat—she couldn’t confront him about the affair or find closure to the life he blew apart.
Now, a year and a half later, Nina has found love again and hopes she can put her shattered world back together. Simon, a widower still grieving the death of his first wife, thinks he has found his dream girl in Nina, and his charm and affections help break through to a heart hardened by betrayal. Nina’s teenage son, Connor, embraces Simon as the father he wishes his dad could have been, while her friends see a different side to him, and they aren’t afraid to use the word obsession.
Nina works hard to bridge the divide that’s come between her daughter and Simon. She wants so badly to believe her life is finally getting back on track, but she’ll soon discover that the greatest danger to herself and her children are the lies people tell themselves.

This story was disturbingly believable. It kept me engaged from beginning to end. The twists were chilling.
I read this author’s previous novel, Saving Meghan and loved it so I was really excited to get approved for this latest novel by D.J. Palmer.
I read this book in just a few hours. Not a new storyline and yes, I did find some parts of it to be predictable. However, with that being said, I was completely invested in reaching the conclusion and didn’t stop reading until I finished (about 3 hours from beginiing to end).
Thank you #netgalley and #stmartinspress for the eARC.
Highly recommend this book and author. He’s amazing. Each book has you in the edge. I couldn’t put it down
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy from D.J Palmer, I was blown away by this book it was amazing and didn’t want to put it down. It was an rollercoaster ride of emotions, you honestly didn’t know what was going to happen till the end. A must read for all who loves a great thrill read. A must read
I do not have enough words to say how much I enjoyed reading The New Husband! The character development was quick, but it didn’t feel like it was rushing. You are constantly going back and forth, looking at the story from different angles and thinking maybe he’s a good guy….maybe he isn’t. You think to yourself….what would I think if I were in this situation. Would I believe Simon…..would I not? How could he know so much about me so soon? I’m always a skeptic and my family thinks that a bad thing….maybe they should read this book? LOL This was such a great beach read or sick day book. I found it hard to put the book down when I had too. D.J. Palmer’s books always have you on edge and always guessing. Twists and turns come in this book and keeps you hooked until the last page. I always look forward to D.J.’s next books, and I cannot wait for the next!

Grateful to the author and publisher for an ARC of this twisted and suspenseful novel ! How far will you go to save your family ? Murder ? Betrayal ? This story starts off with a bang and does not let up to the very last page ! D.J. Palmer has out done himself. Every book better than the last !
This story will keep you up at night. It’s a slow build in the beginning- setting the scene, if you will. We get to know Nina, Simon, Nina’s kids. Most of the story is told in third person but some of it in Nina’s daughter’s perspective. Obviously a young teen girl whose dad disappeared would have different thoughts on the new man in their lives.
The second half is where things get, um, crazy. Like crazy crazy. Disturbing, suspenseful, a story it’s hard to walk away from but at times hard to read. Even when I knew the how and why, I still couldn’t guess what all would happen. This was just the kind of book I was looking for right now.
