This book series is unlike any other. In the first one, men are cursed to love women. Worship them as Goddesses, and earn their love, and be able to take off the masks they have worn their whole lives. Women have never seen the faces of boys and men not related to them. If they look upon their face before they love them, they die. If the women love them, they get to live and be happy without their mask. Noll (Oliviere) grows up pretending to be the Elf Queen and the boys of the village are her friends, and she hates it when they fall in love and go away. Most of all she hates it when her best friend Jurij falls in love with her sister, because SHE loves Jurij. And that begins a series of events that leads to so many things going terribly wrong. Or were they terribly right?? She goes to the Lord’s Castle (which is forbidden) to see if he can or will help her reverse the curse on Jurij, but he falls for Noll. Noll can’t let go of her jealousy and anger and see that Ailill loves her. She can’t allow herself to try to love him or give him a chance, and so she is willing to let him suffer for it. And so Ailill makes HER suffer for it. That causes Noll to run away and she makes a HUGE discovery she never thought possible. She discovers quite a few things. And at this point, she can’t take it all back. (I won’t spoil the secret, it’s too huge and actually you need to just read the books!!) Suffice it to say the curse gets broken. And you think the villagers would be happy!! Well, most of them are. But some of them aren’t. Some of them just want to know why they were cursed to begin with. Who did it? Why?? Well, Some things are best left unspoken…
Noll and the Lord of the Village, Ailill, try to help the village now that the curse has been broken. A peaceful village now knows violence. Bloodshed, swords, death is all the norm rather than love and safety. Can Noll and Ailill save their village?? With Jurij and Jaron leading the witch hunt, it’s hard to say. And then there’s the matter of the Kings and Queens on the other side of the veil playing chess with their lives…Read the books to find out what happens!!!
THE NEVER VEIL: THE COMPLETE SERIES gives you the three separate books in one amazing, fantastical read. I had read Nobody’s Goddess and thoroughly enjoyed every word, but to read all three back-to-back took me to Noll’s world, where I didn’t want to leave.
This is fantasy at its best! You have a whole world built around one concept, and when that is broken, life as you know it changes. Some are happy, some are not, some look to violence in the pretense of wanting answers. And throughout it all, love runs deep. For those that found they were indeed with the one they wanted, or those who now had the opportunity to find love.
There is so much to this story, so many layers of intrigue, I would fail to try to describe it. Instead, look at it as a game of chess!!!
Absolutely amazing world-building, with a whole host of characters you will admire or dislike to your heart’s content. An outstanding series, with an ending that is just perfect.
I absolutely recommend this book/complete series. I have loved every word, every situation, and wish Noll and Ailill every happiness in the future!
Great series!
