The Never Tilting World is such an exciting concept, and what makes a novel a fun read is the way the story splits between four narratives. Each narrative is fun and full of such vitality. The chapter headers alone are enough to make the reader smile, but the added element of balancing the seriousness and the humor. Each character has a struggle to cope with, some secret from the past that they are trying to uncover that in some way also mingles in with the backstory of other characters. It creates a cohesive story that is engaging on all levels for the reader. With all these secrets unfolding as the story progresses, it captivates the reader because even from the beginning, the reader can sense by the tone of the novel that there is something not right.
There is also some diversity in the novel that makes the read even more enjoyable. An LGBT couple is facing the struggle of class and position. Their struggle is engaging and brings another level of struggle into the narrative. It makes it easy for the reader to connect with them and even root for them. Then there are the other two characters. Both of whom are so different and yet balance each other wonderfully.
Each personality is so vibrant, but what is interesting is the way the personalities mirror the world that they are in. The Never Tilting World is a perfect blend of science fiction and fantasy because the way the planet does not rotate mirrors the reality of Uranus capturing the extreme temperatures that coincide with the world being in both constant sunshine while the other side is in constant darkness. The magic and fantastical element highlight the science fiction and gives the novel a unique substance.
The Never Tilting World is a riveting story with fascinating characters and a plot that will make the reader eager for a sequel.
This isn’t my first Rin Chupeco book, but it is by far my favorite. I am absolutely obsessed with what appears will end up being a duology and am chomping at the bit for book two. Clearly, this is a five-star read for me!
Odessa and Haidee are twins but have never actually met in person. In fact, they think each other dead and for good reason; parents don’t always tell their children the truth. The world is completely broken though and fate is slowly pulling them toward each other. To the Breaking, that is, where their mothers defied the world and quite literally broke it.
They each have their main sidekick (and then some) for the epic journey. There are a lot of emotions, a lot of fight scenes and strong heroism. And some girl/girl love is brewing without it being overdone. I love every last minute of it!
Thank you so much to Wunderkind PR for the opportunity to read this book. I have voluntarily provided a review that reflects my own personal opinion.
This was a breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed it!
The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco is a remarkable book. It combines magic with two girls that are on two different quests.
Who will be the new Goddess of Aeon: either Haidee or Odessa?
Tianlan
Tianlan is one of the people that use magic. Her magic is to heal people. While her job is as a ranger. They are tasked with exploring areas where they don’t know that much about. Well, until something happened and now she is tasked to watch the teen goddess. Her teen goddess is one of two, but not everyone knows about the second. Lan, of course, doesn’t think that her goddess Asteria is wrong about what happened when the world broke in two.
What I like about Tianlan is that despite what Asteria has told everyone in their part of the world, she is very dedicated to protecting Odessa. She ended up doing something that she probably shouldn’t have with Odessa, but she still kept with the whole thing of keeping her safe despite Odessa keeping it hard. The one thing that I didn’t like about Tianlan is a spoiler sadly.
Ardu
Ardu is the second of the people that can use magic, but all of them that have a point of view has magic. His magic is more of the fire type, and he doesn’t like Latona as everyone thinks that she killed Asteria, who was supposed to be the Goddess of Aeon. Ardu ends up helping unwillingly to Haidee a lot, and he does like her even though he doesn’t want to admit it. He is a good person under the hard act that he puts on around most people.
What I like about Ardu is that despite hiding the fact that he’s a nice guy under being mean but that’s just him. I also like that he has been able to stay alive in the desert for this long when not a whole lot of people have.
Odessa
Odessa was raised to believe that she was one of the only two Goddesses left in this world. Along with that, she needs to save the world and make it unbroken. She thinks by doing that she needs to accept these gifts while not knowing what they take from her.
What I like about Odessa is that she knows what she wants and she will make it happen. Another thing that I like about Odessa is that she wants to try to bring the world together and thinks that she knows what she needs to do.
Haidee
Haidee is the second twin Goddess and was raised by Latona, the other adult Goddess that is there. Unlike Odessa, she lives where the sun is always there. Haidee doesn’t know anything about her heritage. I love that she likes to work with machines, as it’s not something that you would think a Goddess would do.
What I like about Haidee besides the fact that she works with machines, is that she wants to do things that no one has done before or in a long time. I like that she has grown a lot throughout her quest.

This book just reinforces why Rin Chupeco is one of my favorite authors. She carves out a world that feels like you could step right through the pages into it. A set of sisters broke the world and caused it to stop turning, leaving one side in night and one side in day. Now two sisters on opposite sides have to try to fix it. It’s got a little bit of everything. On one side, a FF bodyguard-royal budding romance. On the other, an enemies to lovers budding romance. And through it all, characters that will face things that had me turning the pages desperately because I really wasn’t sure how it could possibly all work out.
(It doesn’t technically end on a cliff-hanger, but this is the first part of a story that looks like it will continue with other books)
