I recommend this book to people (like me) whose favorite part of the story is seeing how the characters get together followed by a nice HFN. And to people who like stories with pets and/or average characters (as opposed to billionaires, celebrities or men in uniform). And stories where ladies are capable of saving their own selves, whether or not they have to. And to people who might like those things, but aren’t sure yet.
This book was loosely connected to The Way You Are (Carolina Connections Series), but it’s not required to read that book first. While this is the first book in the Carolina Kisses series, there’s not a lot of extra characters in this one so I’m interested to see where the rest of the series goes.
Amanda Stribling and David Black did a really fantastic job bringing the characters to life in the Audible version.

Ted is the typical nerd, and Haley is his new neighbor. They are both shy and awkward with new people. I found myself encouraging them to talk to each other already. When they do finally talk, things take off quickly. I loved the awkwardness of these two. Ted knew she was his, he just needed to talk to her once. Haley knew Ted was her, if she could only talk to him. The was worth it. I completely related to the characters. I love geeky nerds so much that I married one myself. I got lost in this story and loved everything about it.
Amanda Stribling and David Black are a wonderful narrating team. I enjoy what they narrate. Amanda brought out the shyness and determination of Hailey. Amanda really brought Hailey to life. David really brought out the awkwardness of Ted. Amanda and David narrated Ted and Hailey as I know nerds to be. I really related to these characters and I really enjoyed the narration.
This rom-com is a winner! It is one of my favorite Sylvie Stewart audiobooks. I even love it as much as the author’s Kings of Carolina series and “Game Changer”. It is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy and friends-to-lovers romance. It put a smile on my face many times. I totally recommend this audiobook to everyone who likes a steamy rom-com.
Like the funny heroine Hailey, I found her nerd next door to be extremely attractive with his tweed jacket, a Ph.D. in ancient literature, a fascination with superheroes, and a lean physique. Mmm! Sylvie Stewart has created a delectable hero and a smart, bubbly heroine who is perfect for him. Hailey is a veterinarian who just moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. The guy next door in her apartment building is Ted Jones. He is her ideal man, a hot nerd and tweed-wearing college professor. I think they are both about 30 years old. While their relationship development was held up for a while by a misunderstanding, I think that the nature of the miscommunication is realistic and it did not bother me much. The ending was extremely satisfying. There is some steamy sex and some outrageous humor while still having a light, funny tone to the story. I also love Hailey’s cute dog and her best friend Liv. In addition, the details of both of the lead characters’ jobs seemed quite realistic.
The story was told in first person perspective with dual narration in alternating chapters. Amanda Stribling narrated Hailey’s chapters, and David Black narrated Ted’s chapters. They both gave absolutely wonderful performances! Their sense of comic timing was so great that they perfectly conveyed the humor. I have listened to one of Amanda Stribling’s other good performances, but she really impressed me with this one. Her wonderfully pleasant and vivacious voice perfectly embodied the lovable, relatable, and hilarious heroine. David Black’s voice was also perfect for the sexy but slightly awkward hero. I will definitely listen to more audiobooks from each of these narrators.

I really enjoyed this quick read RomCom. It’s a funny story with wonderful characters that I loved from the very beginning. Their connection is instant and their chemistry is intense, but nerves prevent the obvious from happening until the truth is revealed. The Nerd Next Door will lift your spirits and keep you laughing from start to finish. Highly recommend!

It was a cute story.. We meet Haley who has had a crush on her neighbor Ted since she moved it, but these two did not know how to speak to each other, honestly they acted more like high schoolers, but the story was still cute not life changing but cute. So a misunderstanding occurs which allows Ted to finally be able to speak to Haley without mumbling like an imbecile so it did take them a little longer to act out on their attraction than I would have liked but it is what it is..Loved her friend and plan on reading that book..

I have read and enjoyed all of Ms. Stewart’s Carolina series to date. This is the reintroduction of a friend from a previous story and hopefully only the beginning of an equally entertaining series. The characters were well developed, editing was pretty great and the story flowed well throughout. The conflicts were all plausible, not overblown and ridiculous for drama’s sake.

4 1/2 Stars!
I really enjoyed this sweet contemporary romance written in an upbeat and humorous style! Haley is a vet who was totally perving on her next door neighbor, Ted. A series of unfortunate events always seemed to happen when they happened to be in the same vicinity.
As Haley was totally mortified time and time again with her clumsy and awkward conversations with Ted, her hopes of romance dwindled. I loved the dual POVs that showed Ted being equally enraptured by Haley, but tongue tied around her.
Well written, easy to follow story with good pacing and fun dialogue. Entertaining read from start to finish!

A hilarious rom-com. Haley and Ted are attracted to each other but a series of events leads to them both forming misconceptions about each other. I guess it didn’t help my street cred when I’m on the bus yelling at the characters to COMMUNICATE! Enjoyed this immensely.

“Go on, dazzle me, Professor Jones.”
The Nerd Next Door is a funny, sexy rom-com with my favorite kind of hero, Professor Ted Jones, nerd and comic book aficionado par excellence.
And Haley made it really easy for me to root for her pretty much from page 1.
I had so much fun following those two through all the awkwardness, misunderstandings, and mishaps on their way to their HEA. And I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know their friends and (furry) family, too. 🙂
This is the first story I’ve read by this author, but I’m happy that I already have a couple more of her books on my TBR. And, having met Haley’s BFF Liv, now I want to read her story, too…

Haley has been crushing on her next door neighbor Ted since she moved in to the apartment next door to his, but despite her best efforts it appears he just isn’t into her. Ted has been secretly lusting after the beauty next door since their first run in but unfortunately he thinks he doesn’t stand a chance with her. After Ted hears Haley with her best friend Liv he misconstrues their conversation and believes she is off limits which as a double edged sword make him more comfortable around her, but also makes him want her even more. The angst and sexual build up of these two is out of this world and when they finally give into their feelings for one another it’s a powerful explosion that leaves the reader wondering if they will make it or not. The conclusion and their hea was fabulous and will make you wish you had a Ted of your own! This book was fantastic just as the rest of the series has been! The only thing i wish is that is was longer. I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these two yet!

What a fun story!
I’ve been reading a lot of darker romance, so reading The Nerd Next Door was like a breath of fresh air.
Sylvie Stewart has a wonderful way with words. There were so many times while reading I wanted to highlight little phrases to commit to memory. But I didn’t, because if I had, almost the entire book would have been covered in highlights! She has a very unique writing style that is totally my jam.
I loved that although this was a shorter book, it never felt rushed. The tension between Ted and Hailey was absolutely delicious. And while normally I get frustrated when a simple misunderstanding keeps two characters apart, that didn’t happen with this story. Because while they weren’t getting down to sexy business, they were building a relationship and that tension between them was mounting.
The Nerd Next Door was filled with funny and sexy moments, but also had a lot of heart. I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of this book and can’t wait to read more of Sylvie’s words!
