Gretchen O’Malley thinks her new neighborhood is nice and quiet, as ordinary as any other neighborhood. But this soon changes. Every day a new dilemma arises, pulling her into the chaos, and as she gets to know her neighbors she discovers comedy, cruelty, and even tragedy.Do you know what’s going on in your neighborhood?
Gretchen and Jarrod O’Malley have just moved into their new home in what seems to be the quiet, peaceful suburban neighborhood of Sherwood Forest. But they quickly find that it is anything but.
Ms. Ring has written a wonderfully hilarious story of a neighborhood that I doubt any sane person would want to reside in. The neighbors are downright batty. A burly man in a black motorcycle jacket walking five chickens on leashes. Then there is Gladys – with her binoculars and clipboard – always popping up. (Reminded me of Gladys Kravitz from the TV show “Bewitched”.) What was she always writing on that clipboard? And there’s the busybody who shows up at all hours of the day or night, immaculately dressed. Does she ever sleep? Pushy, intrusive… a real can of mixed nuts. Almost creepy.
It is fast-paced, never a moment of dullness. The fastest ever grapevine of gossip. But there are also the occasional moments when you get a glimpse of the all-too-real frailties that lie behind their outrageous behavior.
Fun to visit…but I would not want to live there. This story made me appreciate my quiet, non-quirky neighborhood so much more. If you need a laugh (and don’t we all), be sure to read this book. I doubt you will soon forget this delightful story.
Well what can I say truly a wonderful story. The people in the neighborhood by Erina Bridget Ring…..
I have never read a book by this author before.. This was a wonderful story the cover of the book truly gives insight into this book perfect cover for the story..
For Gretchen and Jared….
Moving to their new neighborhood. Sherwood forest.
Located in the small town of Shellville .
Wonderful streets with names like Robin hood boulevard, Little John way, And maid Marion street. And my favorite sir Richard rode.
Well streets are just a name..
But your neighbors now that’s a different story.. Always thinking you’re going to get the neighbors that are the perfect neighbors in your neighborhood..
Not always what we expect.
Maggie is well,a Hands on kinda Neighbor… She’s always more than willing to help you unpack your things and locate them well where she believes they go..
And then of course there’s her husband he’ll put your things in the correct spot in your garage..
Not sure these are the neighbors that you really want.. But neighbors are neighbors right.. Can’t get much worse…
And then there’s Gladys, She’s the lady with the binoculars, And the clipboard you never never know what she’s doing where she’s going to end up or what she’s writing.
And then there’s the stanleys home right across the street..
And oh boy the color of their house a Bright green… Well they repaint it. well none of the neighbors like it.. But not To a new color they will appreciate.. In comes the farm animals that no one loves and that’s a hoot that part of the story. but I just loved it. got to be fun the bikers the chickens potbelly pigs walking those chickens what a funny story this is a really good book I loved it I loved it so many good things go on in this neighborhood.
I have so much fun reading of this book definitely recommend it to everyone it’s that good.
Thank you Erina Bridget Ring..
I’ve had some quirky neighbors over the years, but the neighbors in Erina Bridget Ring’s Sherwood Forest top them all! This book is a fun read, quick easy read. I think if I had lived there I would have told off a few people and not let them walk right over me but otherwise enjoyed the story. Thanks Erina for a cute story.
This was a great book!! It draws you in from the first page and give you lots of laughs along the way! Jarrod and Gretchen move to their new house on Sir Richard Lane in Sherwood Forest. (That, itself, is enough to tell you that you are in for a wild ride.) This is the story of their neighborhood and all the crazy neighbors that they encounter. My favorite neighbor is Gladys (those binoculars and that clipboard, lol). She is a hoot. They quickly learn the “weird ones”, the “crazy ones” and the ones to just avoid at all costs.
This is a wonderful read and I highly recommend it for anyone, especially someone who just needs to laugh and read a fun, clean book and get lost in it.

A story of the crazy, the nosey, quirky and downright whacky neighbors that we all may have just outside our own front doors. These characters, so true-to-life, who reside in the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood, will take you on a journey of the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all- It’s full of secrets, mystery and one particular busy-body unlike any other, and let me tell you she’s a real gem!

First, I must say thank you to Erina Bridget Ring as I was delighted that I won a copy of THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
As Gretchen and Jarrod O’Malley move into their dream home in Sherwood Forest, they soon find out the precarious shenanigans that begin with their neighbors the next morning. Not only do they realize they have the zaniest neighbors in such a kooky neighborhood, but they are swooped into their lies, secrets, gossip and absolute craziness. The O’Malley’s are really down-to-earth, lovely, and normal people that just want to enjoy their new home along with their privacy, but that is not to be the case. Everyone seems to spy on one another, and it’s just one thing after another. At times the story is quite comical as these neighbors are extremely intrusive and obnoxious. I found myself always routing for the O’Malley’s and on their side. I would never want to live in a neighborhood with such dysfunctional and crazy people! Thank goodness I don’t! If you want to read a comical and very quirky novel, then read this book! The reader will certainly be entertained!
The Neighborhood by Erina Bridget Ring is the third book I have read by this author and won’t be the last. I was pulled right in from the first page and was totally entertained until I hit the end. I had to keep turning the pages forget about dinner I needed to know what the next situation was going to be. This was such a quick and enjoyable read. This book had me laughing out loud my husband thought I was crazy. The descriptions were so vivid you felt like you were right there dealing with the quirky characters. I highly recommend this book if you want a funny, well written clean book that will keep you entertained. I can’t wait to get my hands on more of her books.
What is a neighborhood? It’s “often a social community with considerable face-to-face interaction among members”. OH, does this book take that definition to a new level! The neighborhood in this book, Sherwood Forest, has more than it’s share of endless interactions and not so fairy tale events.
Life is about to become one hot mess when Gretchen and Jarrod O’Malley move into their new home on Sir Richard Road. With the neighborhood called Sherwood Forest, they thought they were moving into the fairy tale neighborhood….but it is not anything like they expected. This is where the craziness of this story begins….and what a crazy tale that is told!
This story had my mind spinning at what these neighbors to Gretchen and Jarrod were capable of! Each one had their weirdnesses and quirks that were out of this world! From the very first neighbor to introduce herself, Maggie, who was a busybody and “town crier”, to the new neighbors who move in and are so unsuspecting of what’s about to overtake their lives, this book was a tale of unbelievable events! This story had so much of Ms. Ring’s humor that made me laugh, but also there is a tragedy that made my heart hurt and so very sad. The characters are unique but also ones that could be in any neighborhood there is. This neighborhood is not normal by any means with its share of busybodies, spies, nuisances, gossips, and the “ones to avoid”. Is there anything this neighborhood doesn’t have?
Do I know my neighbors? Not like this, I don’t! This story was one that I turned the pages and was surprised at what was coming next. I really enjoyed Gladys and her clipboard and binoculars dropped like breadcrumbs through the book. What was she writing down all the time?
Would I want to live in a neighborhood like this? Most definitely NO! BUT I sure did enjoy spending some time visiting it! It was an outrageous, very original and fun read.
Thank you, Ms. Ring for sharing your imagination and also the challenge of knowing who our neighbors really are. In the end, tho, “Home is Where We Are”….no matter what the neighborhood is like.
What a wild and crazy neighborhood Sherwood Forest is. The name of the place is a treat right from the beginning.
The newest neighbors Gretchen and Jarrod were bombarded the instant they arrived. Gretchen had a neighbor stop by and tell her where to put her dishes in the cupboards, and Jarrod had a neighbor tell him how to organize his garage tools.
Living in Sherwood Forest is a gossip fest, but such fun. There is NEVER a dull moment.
We meet all the neighbors, hear their stories, and find out each one has a better story and is more nosy than the next one. They have some kind of communication network that is faster than the Internet for getting the news out.
Ms. Ring’s descriptions of the characters and the situations had me laughing out loud.
I don’t know if I actually know what’s going on in my neighborhood, but if the neighbors were like this, I would be moving.
If you need a delightful, entertaining, well-written, hilarious book, THE NEIGHBORHOOD will be a terrific addition to your reading stack.
Do not missing reading THE NEIGHBORHOOD. 5/5
This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Gretchen and Jarrod move into a supposedly quiet neighborhood, only to find the nosiest neighbors a person could possibly endure. We have all had a neighbor or two that got on our nerves – but this couple had to put up with annoying neighbors all around. There are mysteries to be solved and patience to be had. I about lost my patience with Gladys, with her binoculars around her neck and clipboard in hand – noting all the crazy goings on. And Maggie, trying to take control. I thought Gretchen did a good job of shooing them away. But the trouble was, they always came back! I enjoyed the double-spaced, easy to read print in the book. I also enjoyed wondering what was going to happen next – and what would I do in those situations. Erina Bridget Ring was very descriptive of each character; and I could visualize them in my mind. Warning!! You may have to drink more, while your reading this book! LOL!!
I absolutely enjoyed this book and love the character descriptions. It was an easy read but one that on every page just amazed me at what situation would happen next. There was never a normal day in this neighborhood and there was no way to plan for the events that would unfold each day. I have had some bad neighbors in my life but these quirky, nosey neighbors really take the cake. So unpredictable. Looks can be so unpredictable in this seemingly nice quiet neighborhood. One never knows what is sneaking behind the bushes or who is hiding behind the curtains taking note of the goings on everyday. Once you start this you cannot put it down. This is the last of her books so far as I have read all 5 of hers and loved them all. Can’t wait for her to do another book.
This was an easy, entertaining read with some of the most zany characters I’ve ever encountered. The craziness kept me turning pages as fast as I could, eager to see what would happen next. Although the book was a bit more absurdist than I usually prefer, I still very much enjoyed the story. My one wish is that the characters were a little more developed, so that I could have connected with them more, but that didn’t stop me from sitting back and watching the drama unfold! Overall, it was a fun read that made me grateful for quiet neighbors!!
This is the first book I’ve read by Erina Bridget Ring and it was a pleasure to read.
What would you do if you moved into a neighborhood where all of the neighbors were very nosy and quirky and some of them a bit crazy. That’s what happens to Gretchen and Jarrod and they have to decide how to handle these pushy neighbors. This story takes us through the every day challenges that Gretchen and Jarrod meet with their neighbors and how they decide to handle them. I’m glad I don’t live in a neighborhood with neighbors like this.
This is a fun, quick read, and one I think you will enjoy.
This is a fantastic idea for a book, who hasn’t lived next door or in a neighborhood with some quirky people? I loved it too a certain point, I was frustrated that they did not stand up for themselves more! I know it’s fiction but if you were not happy with someone that is a stranger you would sort of put your foot down to their outrageous ideas wouldn’t you? I was with Gretchen a lot in wanting to laugh at the goings on, but she was just as bad at some points for gossiping with her hairdresser! I enjoyed this book though, and found it very hard to put down. I think I will be looking twice at some people in my neighborhood now…..LOL.
This is not the first book I have read by Erina but it is by far the quirkiest and funniest one! Having lived in many neighborhoods herself, I believe the author took characters from some of those neighborhoods she had lived in and some she created from her own imagination. The book is fast paced, and has comical happenings that will literally have you laughing out loud. Due to the quirky, bizarre characters in the book, it was hard to put down. I couldn’t wait to turn the page to see who was going to do what! I have lived in my home for 38 years and their are neighbors that we still only say hello and wave. Now makes me wonder, do they think my husband and I are weird or strange? Does my neighbor down the road have something to hide? What is the gossip around here? I would recommend this book if you want a perfect and quick read book. If you want a book to lift your mood and take your mind off of something, again great book to read
Oh my gosh, what an interesting book The Neighborhood is. Gretchen and Jarrod O’Malley move into their new house and what they thought would be an awesome neighborhood. Can you imagine a neighbor coming to your door at 6 am. No way. This story takes you through all the crazy, nosy neighbors, neighbors lurking behind bushes taking notes and video taping what they are doing. Between a house being painted a terrible color, finding chickens and a pig in a front yard, walking the animals on leashes, neighbors suing neighbors, houses being burglarized to persistent neighbors who think they should help you unpack and decide where your belongings should go, is this where you would want to live. Read this fun story and get some laughs and be thankful if you live in a quiet neighborhood.
If you ever thought you lived in a crazy neighborhood, you should read the Neighborhood. These neighbors are crazy. What a fun read. This will give you a good laugh and keep you in a good mood. They thought they were moving into a quiet neighborhood but boy were they wrong. They soon learned these neighbors are crazy. They are in your face noisy neighbors. This was really enjoyable fun read and you should read it.
Super entertaining, fun and totally relatable!
The day Gretchen and Jarrod move into Sherwood Forest they immediately start meeting their neighbors. What starts out as a simple ‘How do you do?’ from the Maggie, the first neighbor to introduce herself, turns into a strange and overbearing encounter that leaves Gretchen speechless. Thus begins the tale of The Neighborhood, a story filled with eccentric and nosy neighbors, odd and sometimes scary events, comedy, tragedy, and just plain fun.
I had a great time reading this book! I could picture the beautiful streets and homes and felt like I knew the nutty neighbors personally. Lots of fun!
My Review of The Neighborhood by Erina Bridget Ring
Oh my gosh, what a hoot! The Neighborhood by Erina Bridget Ring was a fun, light-hearted read that had me laughing out loud with disbelief and the pure insanity of it all. The crazy thing is that I think we’ve all been privy to some sort of neighborhood shenanigans. Erina has a great talent for creating visuals. I felt so present when reading about Gladys peering through her binoculars or baring witness to the various hunting debacles, (one of which hit close to home, making me cringe even more). Bottom-line, The Neighborhood by Erina Bridget Ring is a crazy, fun, and hilarious book I recommend, especially for those looking to move into a new neighborhood.
Such a unique, quirky, scary, tragic neighborhood. I ran the gauntlet of emotions with this book. I laughed, I cried, I held my hand over my open mouth. Every household seems to have something going on…just ask the neighbor because they’re all watching. Fast read. Great story. I recommend.
