It’s probably OK for most readers. I did not enjoy the hero being so sexually aggressive on the first date. It really turned me off.
Sara is a divorced mother of a six year old boy. She moves back to her hometown where she was from the wrong side of the tracks. Her mother was an alcoholic and rumors were spread the she was a slut. Harrison is an oncologist and from a wealthy family. When Sara brings her son to him to make sure his cancer is still in remission, Harrison is very attracted to her but she’s a patients mother and doesn’t want to cross that line. The more he sees he, he can’t help but ask her out. They start dating until his mother says some very hateful things to Sara. She believes they’ll never be happy and breaks up with Harrison. Can they work out their problems and live happily ever after?
I have never read or even heard of this author but I’m glad I found her. Opposites attract. Meddling mother. Sweet little boy who loves bugs. Steamy. I got lost in this story and before I knew it, I was finished with it.
School teacher Sara, once a girl from the ‘wrong side of the tracks,’ and hot doc with old money, Harrison are an immediate attraction but a societal no-go. Sara who just moved back to her hometown has reputation ruining rumors still following her from high school. She knows- & his mother constantly reminds her – that they shouldn’t be together. But, oh they are so good together!
A sweet romantic tale of a steady push and pull of perception versus reality that plagues these two. I rooted for them so hard and for Sara to put aside her foolish stubbornness! Very sweet! Even though some of the dialogue is cheesy and somewhat amateur-ish it is still a nice story. You get used to the ‘styles’ based on the characters.
I am excited to read the next book in the series about Sara’s sister and Harrison’s brother!
Sara comes from the wrong side of town. Her childhood in Fair Haven has been a difficult. So when, after her divorce, she returns to take care of her mother, with her now healthy six year old son, she is not ready to meet another man. But Harrison Thornton, the oldest of the wealthiest family in town, is not any man. And he is determined to be with Sara. Can they have a future together even with his family against it?
FOUR STARS: This is an easy to read book with wonderful family characters. It tells the story of Sara Flannigan and Harrison Thornton. She is a gal who grew up poor who falls in love with the famous doctor from the town’s wealthiest family.
She was from the wrong side and he was from money.
This is one of those stories that pull at your heart strings. Sara has not had an easy life growing up. Her mom was an alcoholic and pretty much raised her younger sister. Now is is back, raising her son and helping her mom. Her ex is not around. James is Sara’s whole especially after the cancer scare when he was a toddler. She was worried and took him to the oncologist. Dr. Harrison Thornton. The family with money & influence in their home town. Now they have things to work through.
Wonderful story! I’m hooked! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
Despite it’s faults with editing and loose ends, this is a sweet love story between Harrison and Sara. The plot was good. It just needed a little more developing and not leave us hanging at the end. I loved the characters though more development was needed. What little angst was in the story had potential just needed more development before it imploded. It’s a fun, sweet, fast paced read that’s different from my normal reads.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book….
I’m giving this 2 stars because 1) The hero, Harrison, is a decent guy, and 2) It wasn’t so awful that I couldn’t finish it. But that’s about all this book is going to get from me.
I’m usually more discriminating with my downloads, but this was a BookBub freebie, and sadly, I sometimes download those without doing much research. If I would have looked at some other reviews before 1-clicking, I might’ve passed on this one. (And I kind of wish I would have) Here’s what didn’t work for me:
The trope:
The old “girl from the wrong side of the tracks meets rich all-American rich dude” trope can go horribly wrong for me. I’m OK with it if the heroine is unapologetic about who she is and how she grew up. (Like Emilia in Vicious, for example) But when the heroine is a whiny-ass baby and goes around boo-hooing about how a relationship between them can never work because of crap that happened when they were in high school, I have no tolerance for it. Girl, if you can’t enjoy the company of a single, sweet, sexy doctor who treats cancer kids because you grew up poor and some weenies in high school spread some unsavory rumors about you, well, you’re too stupid to have your own book, in my opinion. And in case I wasn’t clear, Sara, the heroine, is a whiny-ass baby about her past, even though in the present, she’s a good mom and teacher. Make like Elsa and let it go, Sara.
Instalove:
Harrison is a sweetie, but he falls for Sara REALLY fast. Frankly, I don’t see the attraction. To each his own, I suppose. (*shrugs*)
Unnecessary drama:
As if the drama of Sara constantly pushing Harrison away, then pulling him back in over and over again because of her stupid insecurities wasn’t enough, I also had to tolerate Sara’s quasi-stalker, jealous/jackass ex, grumpy sequel-bait sister, and Harrison’s intolerant (and frankly asshole-ish mother). It was all a bit too much. Sara was enough of a hot mess all on her own that these two didn’t need any of the other outside conflicts to keep them apart.
Grown-ass women who are ate-up over high school:
Once you’re out of high school and a full-fledged grown-up with kids of your own, a mortgage, and a full-time job, if the crap that people said to you in high school still eats you up inside, you need to get psychological help. Sara wasn’t beaten up in high school. She wasn’t bullied day in and day out. All that happened was some rumors were spread. In the immortal words of Bobby Singer from Supernatural, “Well, boo-hoo. I’m so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess.” In other words, Sara, get over your crap and move on with your adult life.
So, long-story-short, I wanted to fix the hero up with a heroine from another book, because he was a great guy and Sara was a bit of a turd. I’ve definitely read worse free books, but I won’t be picking up the second book in the series, either. (Free or not)
Don’t really read books but this is something else.
Nice characters fun read
Enjoyed this book
A standalone read with a HEA., This is a story of a rich guy with really bad parents. In high school he falls for a poor girl. The parents are not happy. In high school she rejects a guy and he in turn starts a lot of very negative rumors about her. It ruins her reputation when she did nothing but is destroyed by lies. I knew things like this that happened in high school. Everyone is so eager to believe the worst and then as an adult you find out the guys lied about everything – most will admit they lied! Sad but immature behavior and hopefully they grew out of it. But the damage is done. The mother is a real witch in this story. But it is a good romance as these two meet up again as adults. I really enjoyed it and certainly recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 76/18
Sara and Harrison prove that love knows no bounds and will move mountains. Sara doesn’t want much out of life – mostly she wishes for her son’s James’ cancer to remain in remission, to continue to prove a happy home for him now that her cheating husband is gone, and to hopefully find some happiness herself. When circumstances bring her back to the her hometown, the very last place she ever thought she would ever be again, she is hoping against hope that it will not be a mistake. Then surprise – James’ new doctor is Harrison Thornton. While she was growing up on the wrong side of the tracks with a troubled mother and issues, he and his family lived a charmed lovely life. Now the town doctor he is as handsome and charming as ever and had his sights apparently set on its newest single mom. Harrison never really put much thought behind the fact that he was a Thornton and doesn’t make a habit of trading off the name. When his newest patient’s mother is Sara Flannigan, outside of the bounds of generally not dating within his practice boundaries, he sees no reason why he cannot ask out the beautiful caring woman. Apparently the people of Fair Haven are starved for entertainment and feel entitled to weigh in on matters in which they have no say and are wrong about in all accounts. Worst yet his mother is a chief offender in the citric brigade and Harrison will not stand for it. But will people’s opinions make harder than Harrison would like to get Sara to consider throwing caution into the wind and taking a chance on forever with him.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
A really lovely romance; I enjoyed it a lot! There were some great interactions and some very heartfelt moments that tugged the heartstrings. Would have enjoyed a little more depth to the male lead’s character – I thought some of his characterisation was a little too clichéd – but generally a great book and I look forward to reading the next one!
Sweet book – I even bought the next book in the series.
Just finished reading this book… It was great!
Very enjoyable read
I enjoy reading various stories based around the Thornton family. This book was interesting read with drama of how one born of wealth felt drawn to a woman of “lesser class”… romantic ending….
Cute. Lots of grammatical errors.
