I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
He is a stone cold, withdrawn, arrogant bastard, however hot he is. Isaac has been through way too much in his life. His daughter Ivy, who happens to be 10 years old, is the entire earth moon and starts to him. This is nanny number???? No time to be confronted or stood up to by this young woman, not today, not now. Isaac needs to get to work, he is running late, and he needs to take care of business.
Standing at the door just about to knock, Kira is a bit unnerved by the bellowing and what is being said from a male voice on the other side of this door. She is crossing fingers and praying this is not her new employer. When the shouting stops, she rings the bell, he opens the door, the man is hot, and then he opens his mouth…..poof Mr. Dreamy fades into a demon. This is not how to start the day off.
Without so much as blinking Isaac starts barking orders to Kira, she hasn’t even been there a full 5 minutes. She isn’t give any time to meet and greet his daughter before he goes berserk and angrily flying off the handle….something about being late, even though she is 10 minutes early. When he gives her instructions on finding his daughter’s room instead of showing her and introducing them, this is pretty much all Kira can handle. For a sweet and smaller girl she knows how to hold herself upright and give back exactly what is due.
Isaac is stunned with how quickly Kira and Ivy warm up to each other. He is also surprised when he loses his temper, she does shy away, no she stands up to him and faces him while doing it too. What a spit fire. He has had a very bad time with women, and his attitude he carries now makes it worse. But there is something different about Kira. Isaac can sense it right away. Now running behind, he leaves in a huff. He is brought back to reality by his ex, and she is threatening drastic, once again. No time for this, on his way to a very important meeting has him quickly scrambling to call his lawyer, and to call Kira. Instead of Isaac explaining things a bit and then asking her to keep the ex away from his daughter, he proceeds to be demanding and a but condescending about it. Kira stands up to him yet again. What is it with her?
His BFF and co-owner of the company, who knows the history of Isaac, his ex and Ivy, and everything in between goes to the house in an attempt to help Isaac. Of course the ex is already there, and now there is a bit of talking between the mother of Ivy, Kira, Connor (co-owner and BFF) and Ivy. The meeting is over and Isaac arrives home, aka the battlefield. He rants and raves, and the ex finally leaves. Ivy is hurt and scared. Kira watches and Isaac allows the little girl to take out her frustrations on him. She also watches how gentle and loving and understanding and patient he is with his daughter. When Isaac takes his little girl into another room to comfort her, Connor fills Kira in on what has happened and why Isaac is the way he is.
With a better understanding of who Isaac is, things move in a new direction. One that becomes molten pretty quickly, but something said is the ice water to harden his heart quickly. But now the wheels of fate have started turning, there is no stopping now. A call, a warning of the ex attempting something again has Kira and Isaac working together for Ivy not against one another. That make sparks fly, in many different scenes. A surprise person arrives, tempers are flared, exes battling each other, secrets slipped out and a sucker punch (to a surprise receiver) has the web that fate has woven exposed…raw…in need. Things are said, things are done, and the things said and done are not going to lose their bond.
Another small twist happens, and tempers fly, but are easily talked down and worked through between Isaac and Kira. They have started being a family and they have started the journey to their forever after. This journey they started on was too bumpy for anything to survive, but a head strong woman will never blink when asked to walk through fire for her true love.
Single dad romances are my favorites and this one was really enjoyable. I love Aria’s work. I did enjoy this book and it was a page turner for me. The only thing I didn’t care for was the attitude of Caleb. I could have done without it but he made up for it with the steamy sex scenes. All in all, great book by Aria.
