Discover #1 New York Times-bestselling Patrick Rothfuss’ epic fantasy series, The Kingkiller Chronicle. “I just love the world of Patrick Rothfuss.” —Lin-Manuel Miranda • “He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.” —George R. R. Martin • “Rothfuss has real talent.” —Terry Brooks OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD! DAY ONE: THE NAME OF THE WIND My name is Kvothe. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping … WIND
My name is Kvothe.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
You may have heard of me.
So begins a tale unequaled in fantasy literature—the story of a hero told in his own voice. It is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man’s search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Still waiting for the third book.
I recommend that you pick another book because this one is horrible. After page 400 I gave up reading. It was to slow and going nowhere. It just didnt draw me in
Book 1 of 3… BUT… Book 3 will Never be written. Darned you Patrick Ruthfuss!
This is a captivating story. The characters are a wonderful mix of relatable and mysterious. The author’s phrasing is often poetic in the most surprising ways. I can’t say enough good things!
Love love loved this book and the series. I read all the books in less than a week due to amazing characters and interesting plot lines. The descriptive writing really helped me to visualize the story and I can’t wait to know what happens next
The best fantasy I’ve ever read…he makes the magic seem more like what everyday science would be like to medevial times! Page-turner, couldn’t put it down and I read both of the books (so far…) in his series! Fantastic!!!!
Engaging and well written.
His book sucked me in. The first 50 pages did not appeal but after that I could not put it down. Always something new happening waiting for the next shoe to drop. I read volume 2, Wise Man’s Fear, after that and can’t wait for volume 3. I wish he would hurry uo already.
Read it twice. Fantasy at its best. A beautifully written story full of magic, mystery and heartbreak…second in the series was great too…still waiting for the next installment
Best book I ever read.
his phrasing pleases the brain
I want to give it an Excellent Rating, but I didn’t because of a couple of minor things that I found hard to get by–I need to say this is just my personal hang-up. The story was hard to get started for me…but my son had asked me to read the book(s) so I kept at it. I found the story being told inside the story was more of the interesting one than the one told as the book unfolded. (You’ll understand this after you’ve read it.) I didn’t like the main character–still don’t but I think it will come right in the end. I didn’t like the names of the characters in that it’s hard to keep them all straight, especially since a lot had more than one confusing name. (I think the author enjoyed the naming thing a bit too much but, hey, it’s HIS book!!) The story did grab me at some point and It’s very inventive, original and unpredictable. (Hurrah!!) I liked the book and went on to read the 1000 page book 2 in the series….that says I liked it and I’m trusting the author to set all things right (or at least explain it all) in book 3; which I am waiting for quite anxiously actually! Good read….
The Name of the Wind is an epic fantasy told from the eyes of the main character, Kvothe. Patrick Rothfuss was able to establish a very profound voice with his character, and it is probably the main reason in me reading this book faster than I’ve ever read a book (and that includes any of the Harry Potter books). This says a lot, considering the fact that this is far from being a short novel.
While the final battle/fight was lackluster in my eyes, it didn’t matter at all. The Name of the Wind isn’t intended to be an action-packed tale. It paces itself in a different way. There is a lot of worldbuilding, but Rothfuss is excellent at not boring you while doing it. The magic system is unique. Kvothe’s story is gripping and, most importantly, has personality.
I put this book (and the 2nd book) alongside the Harry Potter series as the most captivating books I’ve ever read.
In my top three series of all time, along with Harry Potter and Sarah J Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses. The amazing worldbuilding, character development, and writing style blew me away, and the constant believable yet surprising plot twists kept me on my toes.
My new favorite book. Easily a new classic. I have read it more than once and have the audible version.
Great, need more from him.
amazing story in an original world. Love Kvothe and could follow his adventures through many, many books. 🙂
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Frustrated the final book is still not released. I’ve been waiting five years
My son recommended this book to me and I was hooked. The story moves along at a good clip keeping your interest. You won’t be sorry you picked this one up.
I was not enticed by the title and it sat on my bookshelf for 6-8 months. When I picked it up and started reading, i realised that 6-8 months was my mistake. I ordered the second book before I finished the first because it was that good.
