The Naked Truth is Maggie Aldrich’s sequel to her 2018 cozy mystery, It’s All Greek to Me. Naked Truth grabbed me from the start; it is action packed from the first page. This cozy mystery is filled with as many twists and turns as a mountain road to a remote resort!
Emily and Michael’s beautiful wedding ends with a clue that turns their idyllic honeymoon into a bone chilling adventure. Unlike many cozy mysteries, The Naked Truth is filled with strong mystery plot points throughout the story. Ms. Aldrich provides many red herrings and clues that lead the couple and their companions on a perilous path to finding the truth about the disappearance of Emily’s parents. The author’s wry sense of humor is apparent throughout the story. Whether it is a description, banter or internal dialogue, there are plenty of chuckle-worthy moments.
Fritz, the quirky private investigator returns and has a bigger role in The Naked Truth. Darcy, a local reporter, is the perfect foil for the sloppy but affable PI. I loved the cuteness of the newlywed couple during their few minutes alone on their honeymoon at the remote resort in Colorado.
All is revealed by the end of the book, and Michael and Emily’s story is sufficiently wrapped up such that the story is satisfactorily concluded. The parting comment leaves room for a spin-off for Fritz and Darcy or new adventures for Emily and Michael.
The Naked Truth and It’s All Greek to Me are a robust duet that will appeal to lovers of cozy mysteries!
Emily is marrying Michael, the man of her dreams. Strange things begin to happen, and she’s soon convinced that her father didn’t die in a car accident two years ago but it still alive. She spends much of their honeymoon chasing down leads, with the help of Fritz, the private investigator that she might as well have in her full-time employ. Fritz and his wife have an interesting relationship, although it seems to work well for them. Darcy, the reporter/receptionist/news anchor/gopher, was a hoot, although a rather high-maintenance one when it suited her. It seems her father was a person of interest to the FBI, but why? Michael is a saint for putting up with all the shenanigans, especially on their honeymoon. I loved this book – mystery, comedy, romance. The characters were well developed and interesting, and worked well together. I already own the first book, but forgot to read it first. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

Oh, my gosh! What a fun ride is! I’ve read many cozy mysteries, but I don’t think I’ve ever read one with such a strong romantic element. This one takes place on a honeymoon, of all things. We are firmly in the head of the bride, and the author has given her such a great voice. It feels like she’s just your funny girlfriend telling you about the zany things in her life. There is so much humor, even though there are some very serious aspects to this story. What a beleaguered couple, trying to figure out the mystery when they should just be having the time of their lives. Secondary characters Fritz and Darcy were a fun addition as well. The book definitely had some twists and good red herrings, what you must have in a good mystery. It wrapped up satisfactorily, but the author wisely left it open for more adventures by the couple or perhaps by Fritz and Darcy… or maybe both! By the way, I haven’t read the first book of the series, but I was still able to read this book without any confusion or issues. This was so good, though, that I think I’m going to have to go back and read that one. I recommend this fun and easy romantic cozy mystery.
