My kids loved this book. It’s a good adventure books for little kids and a wonderful opportunity to talk about landscapes, treasure hunting and being safe (e.g. no, you can’t go off cave hunting without telling us!).
Kids are wonderful and full of enthusiasm
The Mystery of the Runaway King by Paul Moxham
This book starts out with series listings of the authors works and praise for his writing.
Story starts out in Wales and the children along with Will were visiting with Will’s father who is a writer and the kids will entertain themselves.
They are familiar with the area as they have visited before and they plan to camp out in the woods near the house. They first buy some ponies for several days and head to the lake where they spot a girl coming out of the water.
They talk to her and realize she’s staying at a friend’s house and Sophia is to go there and ask permission to camp out.
Kids gather and help Sophia with her tent. Overnight the storm moves in and one hears a dog whimpering and goes to investigate. She is kidnapped and removed from the site. She attempts to get away and remembers some moves she used prior to get away.
Others at the camp start looking for her and after talking they all realize they got the wrong girl. That’s when Sophia tells them who her father is.
There is so much action and adventure and yet more mysteries as the children are able to go to places they are familiar with to stay out of the way of the men in black cars-they know it’s the Golden Dragons now and they are also trying to overthrow the country’s government and Sophia is a big part of it.
On one scary road chase they go off the road and get assistance from Bridget. So many places are visited along with new ones and you wonder if they will ever be safe again.
Love the Eagles Nest and all hidden treasures there. LOVED the new words I learned-had to look them up to get various meanings.
Can’t wait to read more adventures the children take me on.
Authors listing of latest works and just released are summarized along with buy links.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

When you meet the King’s daughter, you just have to help her, no matter what!
@ddeegott The Mystery Kids, Joe, Will, Amy, and Sarah are getting ready to enjoy a camping trip while they are visiting Wales again. After renting horses, they ride out to Finnie Valley so they could camp by the lake. As they were riding into the area near the water, they saw a lone girl swimming in the lake. When she saw them she hurried out of the water without toweling off or dressing and rode off very quickly. After setting up their camp, they started to play a game, when Sarah noticed the girl that had ridden away, sitting on a rock watching them. They talked for a while, learning her name was Sophia, and then invited her to join them. She rode back to get permission, which was given, and then she returned. They all enjoyed getting to know each other and then decided to get some sleep. During the night, Amy heard a dog whining, as we all know Amy loves dogs. As she started looking for the dog, she was covered with a blanket and whisked away from the camp. Now the adventure begins….
What did I like? I have really missed these kids!! Paul has recently added to the books that he writes the new line of Choosing your own path. Taking these wonderful books and letting you determine a path to the end of the story. But, the good old faithful stories of the kid’s adventures is what I missed. Book 11 was released back near the first of December so it has been a while. You know the funny thing is that my grandchildren have all loved these books, but now that they are older they don’t have the time to come and sit with me while we read them. Now, that is fine, life gets complicated, but I just refuse to grow up and miss out on all the fun these kids have, and Paul did not disappoint me… this one has lots of adventures in it.
What will you like? Even if your kids or grandkids are not around, you can still enjoy the clean and wonderful adventures of the Mystery kids. The fact that they can not turn away from someone that is having trouble or is distressed is wonderful. Of course, the more that they help, the more trouble they get into trying to help fix the problems. Every book has been filled with the most unique characters, always very colorful and fascinating. Another great thing about the kids is the traveling that they do. Paul’s descriptions are quite explicit so you always feel like your right next to the kids, wherever they are. The details are always very interesting, giving you the feeling that you can lend a hand if you were just there. Many of the adventures are quite dangerous but the kids are always so careful, learning as they go. Don’t miss out on this great adventure as the kids help save the King and his daughter!!
