“The Mystery of the Hunted Lady” by Abigail Agar
A clean historical regency romance novel loaded with action and suspense. I was gifted a copy of this e-book. It was a very busy read that kept me turning the pages to see just what was going to happen next.
I enjoyed this story immensely. The story starts off with witnessing her father’s murder, then running to save herself from her family’s killers. The killer goes to the authorities and tells a tale where he saw Vera kill her family. Vera goes into hiding while trying to find out who killed her family. There is a lot of suspense and I must say that even though Vera falls in love with Lord Stanley. Lord Stanley has a lot of growing up before I would ever marry him. I found him to be weak of character, even though he had a change of heart in the end.
A well-written story that I enjoyed reading I know it is a book I will be reading again. A book of mystery drama, with a twist to it.
ONE HEART POUNDING READ!!!
Man, this just jumped right into the action. All the excitement, fear, love, loss, intrigue, nailbiting, nerve racking, adrenaline pumping, pulse racing, page turning bombshell that captivates from the start. Twists and turns, ups and downs, along with few bumps in the road make for one enjoyable experience. Abigail builds up the suspense and danger throughout as the tension spirals. The characters and their personalities are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so vivid and detailed it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. With such a graphic description it’s easy to picture each scenario as it plays out perfectly. Abigail did a magnificent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Abigail, thanks for sharing this gem with us.
Vera Ladislaw, of Polish aristocracy. her family forced to leave their country because of Prussians; she is one and twenty. She witnesses the murder of her father and then the murderers kill her mother and their maid. She runs to town to get the constable. However, come morning, the newspaper already posted the tragedy and claimed that she committed the crimes. With the help of new friends, Mr. Fielding and Mrs. Plimpton, Vera became Fidel Fielding, manservant to Lord James Stanley of Avonside Manse. After a short time, Vera became enamored with Lord Stanley. She was like a girl with a school crush. She had constant thoughts about him that would not subside and was interfering with her work. Her obsessive thinking on Lord Stanley was becoming obsessive. She was a young lady of one and twenty not fifteen and still in the school room. Vera’s character, besides the simpering mishish whimpering adoring female that she was, turned out to be a brave woman. She withstood being a young man and found freedom in that role. As a young man, she was able to speak her mind more often. Working for Lord Stanley gave Vera time to work with Mr. Fielding in finding the murderers. Then Vera was discovered. She was arrested and thrown in jail. Lord Stanley found his way to her and then told her their acquaintance had come to an end. Lord Stanley had previously known that Fidel was not a young man but a woman. Vera confirmed it for him. As they spent time together, they fell in love. But now that she was accused of three murders and was in jail as much as it pained him, Lord Stanley let her go. Vera was devastated. She was losing hope of ever gaining her freedom. She had no way of contacting Mr. Fields. He was supposed to help her find the murderer and bring them to justice. She did not want to live anymore and thought to overdose on laudanum. But the men at the prison found the bottle and confiscated it. This was a very suspenseful story of loss of family, grief, new love, and the power of loyalty, truth and justice. I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it.
