Who poisoned the wealthy Emily Inglethorpe, and how did the murderer penetrate and escape from her locked bedroom? Sus-pects abound in the quaint village of Styles St. Mary—from the heiress’s fawning new husband to her two stepsons, her volatile housekeeper, and a pretty nurse who works in a hospital dispensary. Making his unforgettable debut, the brilliant Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is on … on the case.
“The key to the success of this style of detective novel,” writes Elizabeth George in her Introduction, “lies in how the author deals with both the clues and the red herrings, and it has to be said that no one bettered Agatha Christie at this game.”

Agatha can do no wrong. Another winner!
Reading or re-reading an Agatha Christie mystery is a perfect way to enjoy a cold or snowy night. Not bad in summer, either!
One of the most enduring whodunits.
love Agatha Christie and this is one of her best.
Never guessed the villian at all…was surprised. Great suspense !
Agatha Christie keeps you guessing throughout the entire book. Even at the end, one questions who the murderer was. Good mystery by a great mystery author.
I’ve read ever book A.C. Wrote some are genius others are pretty good or okay. This one is pretty good. They’re all worth reading if u like a mystery
As always, Agatha writes a very entertaining murder mystery. I enjoyed it very much.
Classic whodunnit.
This is Agatha Christie’s first book, and introduces Hercule Poirot as a retired Belgian detective who figures out the identity of the poisoner at Styles. His friend, a rather pompous captain on medical leave from WWI, is the narrator of the story.
It was a real pleasure to meet one of my favorite characters again. Martha’s little egg-head detective is always fun. This was his introductory book and great fun to read again after all these years.
First book, great read
Fun reading the first Hercule Poroit novel. Christie was good at keeping the action and plot moving.
Always love a good Agatha Christie. Timeless.
I like all Agatha Christie books!
I love Agatha Christie !!! It’s always a surprise to me when the murderer is named . She is definitely the Queen of murder mysteries !!!!
I love the works of Dame Agatha, and this one is tight up there. The plot and characters are well-written. My one and only real gripe is the reader. She was one-note; I had a lot of difficulty differentiating between Hastings and Poirot, as well as all the other characters.
A fascinating read. Nice to meet Hercule Poirot as he was initially introduced.
A fun read.
Hercules Poirot is brilliant in his debut as the self proclaimed “world’s greatest detective.” Not my favorite Hercules Poirot book but a good place to start as an introduction into this classic character.
Love Poirot!
