Who poisoned the wealthy Emily Inglethorpe, and how did the murderer penetrate and escape from her locked bedroom? Sus-pects abound in the quaint village of Styles St. Mary—from the heiress’s fawning new husband to her two stepsons, her volatile housekeeper, and a pretty nurse who works in a hospital dispensary. Making his unforgettable debut, the brilliant Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is on … on the case.
“The key to the success of this style of detective novel,” writes Elizabeth George in her Introduction, “lies in how the author deals with both the clues and the red herrings, and it has to be said that no one bettered Agatha Christie at this game.”

Agatha Christie hit the ground running with this, her debut novel. Plenty of suspects, clues, red herrings, locked room impossibilities and an innovative twist.
If you’ve read my reviews before, you know I love mystery fiction, and in particular, the classics. Agatha Christie died in 1976, and I was born the following year. Two things come to mind… (1) It’s a good thing I wasn’t alive when she died because I would have been so miserable to be around. (2) Since I was born just about a year later, I’m …
Loved the feeling of 20s. It was great having to experience that. All the characters were well crafted and twist was some what slow thats the only complain i have. Funny but somewhat annoying poirot i loved that character. But maybe it was the first published by author that’s why it has flows. Looking forward to reading others.
Agatha Christie always a good read
I was a little disappointed because it was promised to be more mysterious than it appeared to me. The characters were believable. I could envision them because I’ve seen so many of Christie’s books made into movies.
I love this book – and all of her works. I have the same copies for years – the oldest being about 40yo. I always find something new when I re-read these
Gotta love the young Hercule!!!! It stumped me!!!!!
Agatha Christie…just doesn’t get much better than that.

How the genre began
Another Christie gem.
Agatha Christie is always a good read!
Love Agatha Christie!!
May not be the most famous, the best, or the brightest, but still a good story. Christie’s writing will never wilt.
This is Ms Christine’s first book. I’ve read it several times. A good page turner and great ending with a few surprise twists. Good background on Hastings and Piriot.
Agatha never disappoint s
I love Agatha Christie, and Hercule Poirot. Great story.
