Kiersten Modglin is quickly becoming one of my Favorite Authors! Every time I get one of her new Books, I seriously think I’ll figure out the twist (because there always is one) in this one, BUT I NEVER DO!
In this one Jack, Loren, her Daughter Rynlee, seriously get put though hell, for being kind caring sweet people. Everthing they are put through just… GAH!!
Once again Kiersten has done it again! I am hooked on her books!
Wow that ending! Loren is a great character, she’s like able & relatable. She certainly doesn’t deserve jack’s family drama. This was devoured in a day, a must read!
Kiersten Modglin never ceases to amaze me with her well thought out storylines, twists and turns, and surprise endings. Her books grab you from the first page and draw you into the story which allows you to feel the danger, pain and fear that the characters are experiencing.
Her latest book “The Mother-in-Law”, is a mysterious puzzle comprised of disjointed pieces of people’s lives, swirling around, never knowing where they will land. Loren only wanted to meet a nice man who she could love and trust, someone who would make an appropriate step-father for her young daughter. Jack was wonderful and said all the right things, but he had an unhealthy attachment to his mother. Loren’s mother-in-law was a delusional, evil and merciless woman who would give anyone nightmares. I was afraid for Loren’s daughter when scary things began happening to her with no explanation. Maybe they got married too quickly but she was in love and didn’t want to wait. What did it matter that she had first met his mother at the wedding and never met his father. She was starting a life with Jack, not his mother. Or was she?
Just when you think that a book about a mother-in-law can’t be that bad or that scary, you’re proven wrong by the mind of none other than Kiersten Modglin. Honestly, I have no idea how she comes up with so many plot twists, but this lady is a mistress of surprises. Think being at the haunted house and having something totally unexpected jump out at you. That’s what reading this book was like. Loren and Jack meet when his dog knocks over Rynlee, Loren’s little girl, in order to get at her ice cream cone. That part of the book was normal. Then, Jack and Loren get married and the whole plot goes downhill fast…just like a roller coaster kind of downhill. Scary, exhilarating and fun all at the same time! Coralee, Jack’s mom, makes Cinderella’s stepmother look loving and kind because she is seriously evil incarnate. Her plot to overthrow Loren seemed obvious to me, but that was not the only thing that she wanted. I cannot write much more about the book without giving some deep, dark (think very dark) secrets away, but I will tell you that if you are a fan of thrillers, you will want to read this book. In the daytime. Or with all of the lights on. And maybe a guard dog by your side.
