The Moonglow Sisters is everything I love in a book. It’s emotional, funny, tender and unforgettable. I couldn’t stop reading until the last wonderful page. Lori Wilde writes characters who always speak to my heart.
Every now and then a book comes along that touches every emotion, from heart rending tears to belly laughs. The Moonglow Sisters is a one of those rare books. From the first line to the last sigh, it was amazing.
This is a book about sisters. Despite the fact that they were very close growing up, after an incident at one of their weddings, they all went separate ways and haven’t spoken to each other in over 5 years. They were raised by their grandmother after the death of their parents and since the grandmother is facing potential life threatening health problems, her main goal is to have her granddaughters be part of each other’s lives again. But is it possible after 5 years that she can even get them in the same place and talking to each other or is it too late for reconciliation?
The three sisters were raised at Moonglow bed and breakfast that was run by their grandmother. A major health scare brings the girls back to Moonglow Cove to take care of their grandmother. The sisters are Maddie who lives in NYC and has her own TV show has worked very hard to attain her success. She holds a major grudge towards her sisters and is the rule maker of the family; Shelly, a free spirit left to travel the world and no one is even sure where she’s been or what has happened in her life; the baby of the family was Gia. She was the one sister who stayed in Moonglow Cove and was the peacemaker in the family who wanted everyone to get along. When these three get together, the sparks fly and it doesn’t look there’s any chance of them becoming friends again but as their grandmothers health gets worse, they find themselves working together to take care of her and to renovate the bed and breakfast that had been in the family for so long. Will they be able to forgive and become sisters again?
Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.
I gave it 4 stars as it was a good read, not great or phenomenal, or something that I fell in love with and couldn’t put down, but a journey of what could be reality, the good with the bad.
The background of the three girls was heartbreaking, and they had supposedly bounced back from it. Underlying, each one seemed to have some pretty deep scarring. Having been lied to all their young lives, losing both parents, then finding out they still had a Grammy is pretty traumatic, except maybe for Gia, being so young and not missing what she didn’t remember.
This story is Gia’s–mostly, with her childhood friend Mike, who I think was a saint, but there are so many elements all factoring in, it’s hard to feel the depth I like for at least the main characters. I guess that’s the difference between women’s fiction and romance. I would’ve liked more story on Gia and Mike personally, I mean, since they were faking what really wasn’t fake at all, lol, oh these webs are tangled.
The big estrangement was always front and center, always alluded to, because for five long years these three women wouldn’t talk about it, or even really to each other, so I felt a tad deflated there wasn’t more to the big reveal when it was finally disclosed. Plus, it wasn’t the whole reason Madison was such an A class b**ch, she was hurting. They were all hurting!
There were some very good, surprising elements to pop up and I really did enjoy reading parts of this book. The smalltown mentality is sweet and always so helpful, pitching in when needed. Sweet Gia, the glue to the sisters, had a much needed come to Jesus meltdown, that was truly a wake up for all, including herself! Again, let me say, Mike was a saint, who loved Gia deeply.
So, I liked the read, thought it could’ve been trimmed on several fronts, but I am anxious to read the next book in this series. I’m curious as to how it will follow this huge intro story, now vested in the sisters.
Wow. Just wow. This contemporary read was like watching a drama show. It was so good! Family, secrets, lies, and love. This story hit a lot of points and was nicely done.
*I won a copy of this book from Goodreads*. The Moonglow Sisters is a beautifully, well written book about three estranged sisters, Maddie, Shelley & Gia trying to mend their relationships to be as close as they once were before “ the incident” at Maddie’s wedding five years ago & finish a quilt for their sick grandmother as one of her last requests to her granddaughters. Gia is the peace keeper trying to convince Maddie & Shelley to work out their differences. Gia lies about being engaged to their neighbor Mike to get the quilt done & give them a reason to stay in Moonglow Cove. They all have their own secrets that eventually come out (including their Grammy). This is a book about second chances & healing. It is a funny, entertaining & emotional book that I highly recommend!! Thanks for the book Goodreads!!
Best book I have read all summer. It’s a must read for everyone. I hadn’t read anything from this author, but I certainly will now. Excellent book. Thank you
Great Read with wonderful characters and good story line.
Didn’t like it. Author got too bogged down psychoanalyzing her characters. It was a waste of time.
a very good family story. Maybe because I also wanted sisters!
Great book.
Easy summer read
I enjoy Lori Wilde’s writing style. She has a gift.
I liked this story as my 2 sisters and I are close but in some ways can relate to these sisters and their problems. I recommend it
I enjoyed this book. People waste so much of their life holding to grudges. You can’t get those years back.
True life struggles and misunderstandings portrayed.
It shows that all families have their secret and drama. Very good read all the way to the last word. I couldn’t put it down.
Great upbeat, well written book and we need that right now
The Moonglow Sisters by Lori Wilde Lori writes a story with all the feels…. as a middle child myself I really enjoy this book. I hated to put it down to sleep…I laughed…cried a few tears both happy and sad….Looking forward to Lori’s next book.
The newest novel of Lori Wilde’s, “The Moonglow Sisters” transitions us out of the winter time and right into spring time season. Lori does a great job of setting the scene right from page one making you, the reader the feel like you are sitting on the porch of the bed & breakfast right off the beach.
In addition to the great scenery I also enjoyed the storyline. I really enjoyed the two types of stories that she had going on in the book. Between the drama filled sister storyline and the growing romance between Maddie and her neighbor. It has had me hooked from the moment I started read it.
This book was a truly emotional story that made you laugh, cry, smile and couldn’t put down until you finish it. It is a quick read but one that you will not forget.
