New York reporter Paige MacKenzie has a hidden motive when she heads to the small town of Timberton, Montana. Assigned to research the area’s unique Yogo sapphires for the Manhattan Post, she hopes to reconnect romantically with handsome cowboy Jake Norris. The local gem gallery offers the material needed for the article, but the discovery of an old diary, hidden inside the wall of a historic … hotel, soon sends her on a detour into the underworld of art and deception.
Each of the town’s residents holds a key to untangling more than one long-buried secret, from the hippie chick owner of a new age café to the mute homeless man in the town park. As the worlds of western art and sapphire mining collide, Paige finds herself juggling research, romance and danger. With stolen sapphires and shady characters thrown into the mix, will Paige escape the consequences of her own curiosity?

I could predict part of the endings that is why only 4 stars, but a good read.
Thank you, Deborah Garner, for an engrossing book!
Loved it so much I downloaded all the rest in the series. They are what I call “gentle mysteries” – not gritty, gory, murderous, but plenty of action. A feisty heroine, romance without all the sex scenes, it lets you imagine those, thankfully. Wonderful descriptions of the western locale and history too. I was friends of the lady whose …
Some people might not like the historical details but I appreciate them. History about an area of our country that I didn’t know before.
Paige MacKenzie is a journalist lucky enough to travel from New York City to the west. The character brings fresh eyes to the places she visits and we get the benefit of the fresh description. The people in the small Montana town are well developed and entertaining. The story line is engaging. This is a satisfying read.
Well written story. A real page turner.
An easy read with interesting characters.
I liked this book, but its style was a little different and more challenging for me, not necessarily a bad thing.
I really loved the characters and the setting in Montana. I wiuld love to read more!
Kept my interest
Read The Moonglow Café and Three Silver Doves.
I really enjoy the book.
My first experience with this author, and I absolutely loved the action and pace of this novel. Several mysteries are included throughout this book, starting with the discovery of the partial remains of an old diary in the walls of a historic hotel in the small town of Timberton, Montana where New York Reporter Paige MacKenzie has been assigned …
I love the way the author incorporates the food and recipes into these holiday books. I’ve tried quite a few of them, actually. These are just reads for the holiday season.
All the info on sapphires is truly interesting. It was a good cozy.
At times I found the main character doing things that seemed totally unrealistic – very dangerous; things an intelligent person would not do. However, overall I still enjoyed the easy read.
As a New Mexican I really found this book very entertaining!
Good mystery. No dead bodies, bad language or sex scenes. I like all of Deborah Garner’s books.
I enjoyed this story!
I enjoy the situations Paige finds herself in. Fun read.
