“Equal parts charming and ingenious, dark and quirky and utterly engaging. Reading The Monogram Murders was like returning to a favorite room of a long-lost home” -Gillian Flynn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Gone GirlSince the publication of her first novel in 1920, more than two billion copies of Agatha Christie’s books have been sold around the globe. Now, for the first time ever, … have been sold around the globe. Now, for the first time ever, the guardians of her legacy have approved a brand new novel featuring Dame Agatha’s most beloved creation, Hercule Poirot.
‘I’m a dead woman, or I shall be soon…’
Hercule Poirot’s quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. She is terrified – but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done.
Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a fashionable London Hotel have been murdered, and a cufflink has been placed in each one’s mouth. It was okay. Seemed to take the Characters forever to eind their way through the ecyremly complex plot.
Agatha Christie mysteries are best
This was not written by Agatha Christie, but it certainly reads as if she wrote it. That’s the highest praise I can give for the book!
A great return of Hercule Poirot by an author who captures Christies’ writing style. I will hope there are more to come and perhaps a new Miss Marple!!. Wonderful to read.
I enjoyed reading this book but the characters were not as Agatha Christie .created them.
Poorly written. I feel sorry for the Agatha Christie family for letting Sophie Hannah write a make-believe Hercule Poirot novel. The main character in the book was Scotland Yard detective Catchpool, not Poirot, whom Catchpool griped at continually.
Story was ok but you can certainly tell it was not written by Agatha Cristie.
It did keep my interest but it was extremely tedious. Recommend with some reservation. I will not read her version of Hercule again.
Loved it! It’s like Agatha is still with us. Can’t wait to read the next two in her series!!!!
This book has a grim premise but was fun to read. I’ve read almost every Christie book but I didn’t remember this one.
A well-done homage to Agatha Christie’s famous character. At times, it is a bit hard to follow, but overall, it’s well done.
If you love A. Christie, skip this book!
This book just keeps getting better and better. Great characters. A good “who done it.”
Got Poirot perfectly. Very good mystery. Enjoyed it. Thx
Although Sophie Hannah has written a thoroughly engaging detective story, with a complex plot and well-developed characters, including the new “Captain Hastings” in the form of Inspector Edward Catchpool, her portrayal of Poirot is not quite spot on. The author’s description’s of the Belgian Detective’s personal idiosyncracies do not quite hit the spot, but this does not deter from the reader’s enjoyment of the story. I enjoyed the detailed story line and the introduction of Poirot’s new sidekick. I just finished reading the next title in the series, Closed Casket, and this was another good read.
Agatha Christie it ain’t.
I normally give good reviews on the books I read. But. The book started out as a good agatha Christie novel. By the third chapter it started to get repetitious. Very frustrating.
I love Sophie Hannah’s re-invention of Poirot – especially because she’s made the character her own. I got totally hooked on this one and Closed Casket. When I was at the Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate recently we were given a sample from the new Poirot book, which I read on the train, and now I really can’t wait for it to come out.
I was disappointed when I saw that it was not written by Agatha herself. The prose is not tight, it is ok but I feel tricked!!!!!
