She’s small-town business. He’s Manhattan high finance. Together they ignite in a novel about unexpected love and danger by Nancy Herkness, award-winning author of the Wager of Hearts series.
New Jersey bookkeeper Alice Thurber has a carefully constructed risk-free life. Everything in perfect balance. Until little discrepancies show up in her clients’ accounts. Most would ignore it. Not the … it. Not the impeccably precise Alice. In desperation she reaches out to a high-powered consulting firm for help. New York City’s movie-star handsome financial wizard Derek Killion reaches back. All he has to do is smile and Alice’s fantasies stir. A girl can dream, can’t she?
A cofounder of KRG, Derek’s promise is to advise small-business owners in trouble. He never guessed that assisting the diffident but sexy Alice would be so captivating and make it so hard to keep his desires in check. But just as intriguing is the alarming puzzle behind the computer glitch that’s unsettled his client. As the investigation unfolds, they must also confront an attraction too palpable to ignore. Every new dark twist they follow is only bringing them closer together—in passion and in danger.

Well-written, well-crafted, and well-plotted, The Money Man is a surefire read; one to get the blood pumping, the heart racing, and the one-click finger working. Highly recommend!
This was my first book by Nancy Herkness and it won’t be the last! I really enjoyed this cute and sexy romance with a dash of suspense! What happens when 2 accountants are solving a financial mystery? We get a steamy and intriguing read!
Derek and Alice had an immediate attraction and I loved watching them act around it. Joined together as a part of a business deal, they couldn’t deny the chemistry they shared, but they tried to keep things professional. However, in the pursuit of solving the mystery and countless fantasies about each other, they crossed the line and grew a lot closer than they intended.
I loved how the author presented the characters in this story. At first glance, they seem to be complete opposites, but with every turned page we see many similarities, from the profession in which they work, to experiences from the past. I loved to see them open up towards each other and the slow demolition of the walls they surrounded themselves. Their passion was palpable and sizzling.
I adored the secondary characters in this story and I can’t wait to read their stories (especially Leland’s!).
Overall, it was a great read, full of tension, hotness and surprises. I really enjoyed solving the financial mystery and the growing romance between main characters. I’ll definitely look out for the next book in this series!
This was an enjoyable romance between two well-matched people and a good start to a new series. Derek and Alice were both smart, competent and financially oriented in their work life. They bonded over their mutual love of math and of liking everything to be neatly tied up and explainable. They were attracted to each other as soon as they met and they didn’t waste much time in getting together. As an accountant myself, I appreciated that although their passion for numbers was obvious, neither of them was depicted as boring or otherwise lacking in their personal lives. In fact, they had so much in common that I could totally see their relationship working out long-term. This was an easy, low-key, low-conflict romance with some suspense thrown in regarding potential malfeasance in the accounting software that Alice installed on behalf of some of her clients.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this book! A strong heroine, a swoony hero. Suspense, adventure with twists and turns and an incredible ending. I would definitely recommend this novel! Looking forward to more from Herkness.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Alice owns her own accounting small business where she has several clients. When she talks them into changing over from paper files to a new software program, she thinks it will make things easier for everyone. But after a few dollars short here and there, she tries to contact the software company for answers but she gets no help from them. She notices an offer for help from the larger than life accounting firm KRG.
Derek lands one of the biggest accounts of his career and their companies too. But the excitement he used to feel just isn’t there. But when he gets an email regarding help from a small business owner, the excitement is back. Derek goes to help Alice himself, he feels it will be something quick. But when he is stumped, he pulls in his partner to help.
There is more going on here then either of them realizes. Can Derek help Alice find the problem without stirring up trouble? Will Alice be able to spend time with Derek and not fall for him? Can they solve the missing money problem and steer clear of the danger coming their way?
This is a first for me from this author and I look forward to reading more from her. This story is filled with lust, love, and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end because you will have to know what happens. I hope you enjoy this one too.

Oh my goodness!
Nancy gives you everything in this new series! Love, giggles, espionage, danger, thrills and oh the heat!
I love the characters and the way they blend so well together. I so enjoyed the building romance between Alice and Derek. The friendships they both have are steadfast and solid.
Alice’s dilemma becomes Derek’s mission and he takes his partners in with him for the hunt. I could almost see the wheels turning in all of their heads as they put the pieces together. There were hang onto your seat moments that had me gritting my teeth but this was followed by some major fist pumps!
The epilogue is going to make you misty-eyed and swoony. 😉 Loved that part!
The first few pages of the story had me worried, as I saw some writing/craft issues. For instance, in the second paragraph, “She felt a tremor of panic ripple through her…” would be better written “A tremor of panic rippled through her,” and I think I caught a few “very’ s.” The first couple pages are all telling instead of showing as well. However, once I got past that, I quickly got caught up in the story and completely blew by any future editing issues. This is the mark of a skilled writer. I really enjoyed the story, especially the strong characters. I agree with some others that commented on the amount of sex. I thought it was too much and would have been just as good without the detailed sex scenes. However, this was a good book and worth the read!
Another great one by Nancy Herkness! looking forward to the next one!
Hot man with a brilliant mind vs sexy woman with same mind = Explosion.
This book reminded me that no matter how many bad things that are happening in the world, all it takes sometimes, is the determination of one good person to eliminate some of that bad. As the saying goes. Bad things happened when good people do nothing. I enjoyed this story immensely. Nancy and Derek may be nerds in there profession but they certainly use that same focus to bring the bad guys down. They are great at their jobs, and even more so when they are come together as lovers. What could be better than having your partner’s total focus during love making. Give me a nerd every day of the week. Can’t wait for the next book. Love the plot.
This is the first book I read by this author and was a very good choice when I read the synopsis while searching at NetGalley for some new books, this one catch my attention at first because of the cover but then the synopsis completely won me.
It had a very interesting plot, the perfect amount of sexual tension, suspense and some villains whom just add the xtra tension to this H and H.
Heroes… now I think they are actually heroes inside the story, Alice and her honesty and responsibility to protect her clients is the reason she opens an investigation with the help of Derek and his company, and friends.
The tension between this two is instantly, right when they’ve meet for the first time, but things gets a little danger for Alice and just like she always dreams about it, Derek became her historical Prince Charming .
This story ends with a HEA and with the perfect epilogue after all the tension we go through mostly the entire book.
I’m totally recommend to all of you who likes a romantic suspense.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing the kindle ebook.

There aren’t enough stars to rate this one! It’s right on the money! (Haha, pun intended!) A longtime fan of this author, I was very excited to know she had a new series coming out. Nancy is intentional with every word and detail she puts into her books, and this one is no exception. Readers will delight in the main characters, even if they are not fans of numbers. Going deep, you are pulled into the story and ARE Alice and Derek. Their humor, self-awareness, and truths keep the reader smiling, turning pages, and forgetting their own realities. Alice is an endearing heroine, determined to not take risks-until her OCD with balances leads her into a situation she couldn’t have imagined, but she’s no shrinking violet. She can and does save the day with her quick thinking and strength. Derek is the hero of her Regency romance dreams, and the way the book ends will have contemporay and historical readers coming back again and again to relive the unforgettable grand gesture. Don’t miss this one!
Can a small time bookkeeper and the owner of a multi-million dollar consulting firm find love? Yes!!! The Money Man is a delightfully sweet plot driven romance featuring computer nerds, shady characters, Russian hackers and of course loads of romance. Now I can’t wait for the rest of the series. Thanks #NetGalley

With The Money Man Nancy Herkness proves once again that she is the queen of sweet-start slow-burn hot-sex storytelling.
What could turn the world of a no-nonsense numbers-crunching Regency-romance loving bookkeeper upside down? $3.37. The fourth in a series of small discrepancies that sends conscientious Alice Thurber tumbling out of her orderly world and pulls once-burned-twice-shy pay-it-forward generous CEO Derek Kellion tumbling into it. From this innocent start Nancy Herkness spins a tale where wariness turns to trust, admiration forces internal introspection and attraction leads to love as Derek and Alice join forces to stop a madman from ruining the lives of thousands of small business owners.
I love how the sex Alice and Derek share (wonderfully hot and emotionally satisfying) grows as they grow internally as individuals and externally as a couple. The suspense provides the perfect backdrop for their budding romance and ultimate commitment to each other. I got my copy on the morning of the 14th. I’d finished it by the evening of the 14th. I couldn’t put The Money Man down. You won’t be able to either.
I always love when a Nancy Herkness releases a new novel! She balances heat, struggle, pain and heart so very well and by far my favorite part of her writing is her attention to detail and depth of characters. It may seem to go a little slowly but it adds a quality of writing not normally found in the typical romance novel. This time she adds intrigue and suspense! Just when I thought should couldn’t get any better! A new angle on a great author’s work. I get so into the books I fly through them and realize I need to read them again to see what I might have missed. Haha!
This one has a woman focused on order and numbers. I can tell right away Alice and I would’ve been friends! Derek as the intelligent consultant focused on helping small businesses (swoon!) is just delicious. Nothing fluffy here, folks. It’s real, it’s believable and, bc of those, it’s not the typical romance boring meh. If you want good reading with HEAT, you’ve found it!
I’ve read Nancy Herkness once before and really looked forward to reading this story and I was not disappointed. The fact that I am an accountant in my real life made it easy to relate to both Alice and Derek. I’ve also spent many hours trying to find silly amounts. What I loved about this story is that along with the suspense aspect of what they fall into, Derek and Alice have nearly identical issues with their pasts….not feeling good enough despite current successes. I enjoyed the way they found themselves in each other and how open they were to whatever happened next. I look forward to more in this series.
A wonderful new romance mystery novel by the talented Ms. Herkness. I’m hoping this is a start to a trilogy with Tully and Leland getting their own stories.
Alice is a bookkeeper for small businesses. When she finds a discrepancy in her clients’ accounts, she goes to Derek’s large firm asking for help. He ends up taking a personal interest in her problem, which turns to personal interest in her. As they try to figure out the puzzle, they spend more and more time together, and get deeper and deeper into the mystery of what’s going on. By the end, Alice is showing off her kick-butt ninja moves and saving her cats.
And thanks to Ms. Herkness’ description, I can definitely picture Derek in pantaloons and regency garb. Swoon!
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this one to a point. Alice is a small town accountant and starts using a new accounting program for her clients that should really only be used as a single family application so she should not be using it in her business but at least she is so OCD she freaks when her clients are short by a few dollars and contacts a Manhattan firm to look into the problem. Derek Killion is a founding partner of KRG and when he meets Alice she is not what he expects. This story was full of heat and chemistry and even some suspense. I was not thrilled with Alice’s regency kick but, hey, that is her thing…Overall, this was a great story and I will be on the watch for the next in the series!
I really enjoyed Alice and Derek’s story in The Money Man by Nancy Herkness, book one in her The Consultants series. This was a story filled with mystery, danger, interesting characters, a steamy romance, and math geeks that drew me in and didn’t let go, even as I turned the last page. You don’t have to be a math geek, like me, to enjoy this story. Alice and Derek are both numbers people but at totally different levels. Alice is the neighborhood bookkeeper while Derek, with his MBA, is the numbers guy at an international corporation, KRG. Derek created an initiative to help small businesses with problems, free of charge. When Alice discovers a discrepancy while using a new computer bookkeeping program she asks KRG for help figuring out what or where she went wrong. Working with Derek and his partners, Alice discovers the location or cause for the missing money; only things aren’t as simple as that. While investigating the software company they learn that they have stirred up a hornet’s nest. I loved how protective and caring Derek is of Alice. His grand gesture at the end of book is swoon-worthy; especially for regency romance fans. Dowdy, quiet, buttoned-up Alice finally steps out of her comfort zone and turns into an amazing kick-ass woman; one to definitely admire. The chemistry between these two is not just off the charts, it’s electrifying. The math jokes, only they understand, gives a bit of humor to this story. The secondary characters, both Alice’s friends and Derek’s KRG partners, add an additional layer to this story and I hope to see more of them in future books.
Ms. Herkness wrote a wonderful, sexy and suspenseful story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, amusing banter, a touch of danger, and endearing characters giving Alice and Derek a chance for a future together. I highly recommend The Money Man to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
At the top of her form, author Nancy Herkness starts a new steamy series with THE MONEY MAN, throwing into the mix some action-adventure, danger, and suspense. OOOOOOOH LA LA
Rating 4.5
Nancy Herkness does it again with a new series that is filled with romance and intrigue. Welcome to her new series The Consultants and the first book is going to wow you from the get-go.
When Alice a small town bookkeeper with a total of 4 clients stumbles on discrepancies within her client’s books she knows she cant rest until she figures it out. She reaches out to Derek Killian of KRG Consultants for help. Derek and his partners set up a way to help small businesses in their area as a way to give back and not forget where they came from. When Derek the numbers guy of the 3 hears from Alice he thinks it will be a small matter that will be cleared up in a very short amount of time. When that turns out to not be the case he knows that he needs to work through the problem and Alice being beautiful and smart doesn’t hurt either.
Alice is floored that one of the partners of KRG wants to help and him showing interest in mousy her shocks Alice even more. Derek and Alice’s partnership leads to more than just a mystery – it also could lead to something much more.
I not going to lie – I love Nancy Herkness. I also love that The Money Man is a little different than her usual romance. I love the mystery that brings together Derek and Alice it adds an additional flare that makes this one of hers a lot of fun to read and so hard to put down. I also love Derek and Alice’s friends whom I am hoping will be featured in upcoming books in the series.
