This was the first book I read by Dianne Harman but won’t be the last.
A request for an art appraisal lands Marty smack dab in the middle of a murder plot. With several suspects who each seemingly have a motive, the reader is taken on a tour of who-done-it with plenty of twists and turns along with some funny breaks that will have you chuckling out loud.
If you are looking for a great read to cozy up with next to the fire, this is one you’ll want to pick up. You won’t be disappointed.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. It is a nice easy listen following Marty as she investigates a case that shouldn’t be one, it was also unusual in the fact that there wasn’t a murder and It was just an attempted one. It contains some interesting characters especially friends that dress up like there dogs (which just paints a lovely picture( and I enjoyed the way that Marty wouldn’t let a murderer get away with it even if they are rich. This is my favourite series by this author because I like Marty’s sister Laura and her psychic powers but I did think she was sadly missing in this book. She was there and did have some advice but it was only a little part. Other than that it was fun and the mystery was good. I didn’t guess who the would be killer was but had plenty of guesses.
For her next appraisal of art work Marty needs an escort because she is working for a group of very rich men that is very exclusive that they need guards at the gates because some of the guest speakers have been ex presidents. So just how did somebody sneak onto the grounds and stab the manger in the back? Marty is the only one curious enough to ask, everybody else wants to keep it quite, including the police Chief. With her police detective husband Jeff out of town it is up to Marty to find the would be killer before her tries again.
I like the narrator she does a good job giving each character there own voice and bringing the story to life.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
“If you do it, will you be able to sleep at night? And conversely, if you don’t do it, will you be able to sleep at night?”
This is my first book in the series. The narrator was good. The psychic addition was interesting. There are spoilers for previous books and outcomes of mysteries. Ack. Some seriously messed up stuff in here. Unfortunately, it’s probably pretty accurate to real life. A good female narrator. After my first Harman audiobook, I was a bit worried. This narrator didn’t detract from the story at all and I was able to follow character changes. An enjoyable mystery.
Marty is an appraiser. Somehow she stumbles upon a murder and she ends up involved in investigating what really happened. This one is a high stakes mystery. The investigation swirls around a money club. There are rich members, lots of rules, lots of secrets, and lots of suspects!
The Money Club–a highly exclusive club owned by the richest and most powerful men around. Ego’s defined most if not all of these men–huge egos! Marty was asked by her friend who owns an Antique Store to please do an appraisal of some of their art works for insurance purposes. He couldn’t do it because he sold a lot of it to them and to other members for their personal residences. She accepts and becomes embroiled in an attempted murder at the club. For a change her psychic sister and dog do not sense danger to Marty. But she is alone in this as the Club has shut down any mention of it and kind of convinced the police to close the case. Luckily the Chief thinks better of it and reopens it. I guess I should not have been surprised at who the person was—but it caught me off guard.
A much lighter moment occurs when the Antique dealer, who is allergic to dogs, realizes that there are dogs around who are hypoallergenic and he adopts a puppy. You are sure to laugh as you hear what he and the pup wear!! That is going to be one spoiled dog!!
Of course the people who live in the compound eat very well!! You will find some of the recipes at the end of the novel.
