Have you ever hit rock bottom? I embarrassingly have. It’s why I’m wearing my girl’s decorative scarf over my head, clutching her lady drink to my chest, and singing ever so softly to Joni Mitchell while swaying back and forth. This is what therapists refer to as LOSING IT. Oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy screws up MASSIVELY, girl tells boy to suffocate in the … girl tells boy to suffocate in the fruits of his very own unborn children.
Heard it before? I’m sure you have.
So what’s so different about this story? Well, it’s about me, The Modern Gentleman, New York City’s top advice columnist, and my rather ungraceful downfall from my pristinely polished pedestal.
It’s about a girl I met who threw all my proven theories to the wind and left me awkward, needy, and absolutely head-over-wingtipped shoes in love.
This is a story about June Lacy and how she single-handedly dismantled The Modern Gentleman.

Okay The Modern Gentleman is HILARIOUS you guys! I have never laughed so hard. Totally adore Wes – alpha hero, gorgeous, confident but also so sweet. He jumped all the hoops for the woman he loves and that include facing the biggest fear, singing in front of crowd… Gah, super swoony! June is so quirky and sassy. She has a carefree personality, honest, kind. She speaks her mind and isn’t afraid to compliments or busting b*lls as she sees fit. She really is a breath of fresh air. She brings out the best in Wes, helped him loosen up, slow down, and enjoy life. I love how they met –June rescued Wes dodging dog poop in central park LOL seriously? I love all the massive train wreck dates – so funny and that’s so them! I also enjoy the secondary characters mainly the bromance between Wes and his two best-friends. Over all this was quick, adorable, light-hearted romcom.
I needed this light and funny read! Meghan outdid herself yet again!
The Modern Gentleman is an amusing, highly entertaining romantic comedy that will have you hooked from start to finish. With quirky characters, witty banter, tender moments and incredible chemistry this story was everything you would want in a romcom and more. This is Wes and June’s story and we are taken on this journey with them filled with friendship, mishaps, love and so much emotion.
This slow-burn was a lighthearted fun read written in dual POV. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to all lovers of contemporary romance..
With all the bleakness surrounding us now this is just the book we need. As an author I’ve come to count on for fun and flirty reads full of heart and soul, Ms. Quinn delivers yet again with immensely appealing characters and a storyline that crackles. From an endearing introduction to the hero, Wes Waldorf, to a series of interactions that put a smile on my face while making me laugh out loud, I was utterly captivated and never wanted the story to end!
Wes has always been seen as the master of dating and relationships…at least on the pages of the internet articles he’s famous for writing. In real life though he’s anything but suave and confident…at least when he starts a new series of articles featuring aspiring actress June Lacy. His boss wants him to write about modern dating and June, unknowingly, becomes Wes’s test subject in a series of awkward exchanges that show him to be completely inept when it comes to June. Through each laughable outcome, Wes endeared himself to me. Through sweet and sexy words and deeds I fell for him even harder in a journey that had his growing feelings for her surprise even him. Keeping the truth about his intentions was a recipe for disaster though, a heartbreaking one at that, that he worked hard to get forgiveness for in a conclusion that was an utter delight. From the first page to the last Wes was larger than life, not afraid to show a softer side too, and it made for an even more lovable and realistic hero. June was a perfect match to him, sassy and strong-willed, and she led him on a merry chase that made for a sensual journey that kept me glued to the pages. Their romance sizzled, their banter witty and rapid-fire, and I inhaled every interaction they had together. This pair was a dynamic duo indeed with a romance that won me over from the very start and I highly recommend this book to readers looking for a heartwarming and uplifting read, one that still makes me smile!
The perfect romantic comedy to make your day! The Modern Gentleman is perfect for fans of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – in fact, I love it even more than the movie. The chemistry between Wes and June was off the charts crazy, and it was definitely a journey I’d gladly take all over again! This is a must read if you love a good RomCom, and I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down until the end. Meghan Quinn is an author that I have to plan my surroundings around where I read her books, because I will laugh so loudly (or snort) that I scare most people. Her characters are always so genuine and unfiltered, that it’s always a guarantee that I’ll be buying the paperback before I even finish reading the Kindle version.
How to lose a guy in 10 days meets what women want…
I really enjoyed this.
It was hilarious too!
Great plot. Great content. Awesome characters!
Highly recommend this modern day fairy tale (hehehe).
Meghan Quinn
Wow! Meghan Quinn really outdid herself with this one! I honestly cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard, like laughing to the point of coughing and gasping for air! This was comedy gold!
Wes is the Modern Gentleman, a columnist for a social media company. He writes a love and dating advice column for men. He gets an assignment from his boss to use his own techniques to date a woman. It’s very much How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but the opposite. He meets June in the weirdest way, and quickly realizes that his usual techniques are not working on her. June is quirky, and has an old school way of thinking. This is the very epitome of slow burn. Their dates go incredibly wrong but were so darn hilarious to read! He is more himself around her than anyone else. But, the best part of this book was the friendship Wes has with his buddies. Roman, Caden and Wes’s relationship was so ridiculous, but absolutely perfect! I really hope we get a book on these guys.
The Modern Gentleman was so funny and exactly what I needed right now. This is definitely a book I will be rereading. If you are looking for an absolutely hilarious romantic comedy, look no further, this is the book for you!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A new fun rom-com from Meghan, this will have you laughing along at all the little mishaps along the way.
Meet Wes, he writes for an advice column under the guise of The Modern Gentleman, offering all types of handy advice to men of all types stuck in sticky situations with girls. That is until his boss tells him to put his money where his mouth is and write a ‘How To’ guide by The Modern Gentleman on how to pick up a girl! Except he’s on a limited timescale to get it done, else he may well get fired!!
He’s down to his last day when he meets June in the park, just as he’s about to step in dog do-do!! June is quirky, smart and sassy, old fashioned in her ways, the woman doesn’t even possess a mobile phone, who how does he get her number?! Trust him to try and pick up a girl that is anything but normal!!
This was a good read, I loved the witty banter and how June made him work for it, not just giving him everything on a plate!! It’s a slow burn read, they get to know each other slowly before any type of sexual contact, she doesn’t even allow a kiss until the 10th date!! Of course he makes a typical man mistake and doesn’t tell June the whole truth about The Modern Gentleman, so she ends up hurt. It’s how he wins her back that will have you swooning.
I really enjoyed this, left me with a smile on my face! I thought Wes’ friends were great also, you could definitely get a book out of each of those. Well worth the read.
It is not a spoiler to say as it’s in the blurb and the prologue that Wes should have known better being The Modern Gentleman, but he stuffed up. And he stuffed up big time! He withheld information that he should have told June from the beginning and it came back to bite him harder on the butt than the General ever could. And that’s how this story starts. What it then turns into is a brilliant back tale of how Wes has a funny meet cute with June in Central Park and their slow and amazing courtship.
June likes to be in the present, she hates people always looking at their phones, hence she doesn’t own one. She’s been hurt badly before and wants to take things very slow with Wes, and that is fine by him. He is out of his element but is enjoying every minute he gets to spend with her. They go on dates, and some of them are hilarious! This is pure Quinn excellence with her marvelous humor.
What I loved about Wes was even though he was a gent and refined, he could poke fun at himself too. He knew how to have a good time and he went out of his way to find things that June would love to do. He was loyal, patient and dedicated. It was adoring to watch their relationship bloom. June was one special lady. She was old school but light hearted and a hoot to be around. The story is told mainly in Wes’s pov, as he’s a hog at times, but June gives us some home truths too. She come to a realization about Wes that I thought was so endearing.. “I like him as a man. Adore him as a friend. Love him as mine.” Melted my heart! But Wes has some making up to do and he needs to get out of his comfort zone and deliver the grand gesture of grand gestures. And yes, I did go off and listen to the Jonas Brothers to set the mood. I hope you will too.
Loved this book!! Humor and love wrapped up in one great story!!
The Modern Gentleman is a fun read. I usually pick up a book by Meghan Quinn if I’m looking for a fun read and this one definitely fit the bill. I loved Wes. He is swoon worthy. Wes writes a dating advise column. He’s a good guy that works hard. He makes a questionable decision for his job. I loved June too. I love her name. She’s a great girl and a little quirky. These two have great chemistry. This one is a sweet romance with plenty of laughs.
Wes, aka The Modern Gentleman, has definitely met his match with June Lacy. He is used to meeting a woman and getting her number right away, but not with June. She really makes him work to get her number. I admit that I rolled my eyes at some of June’s attributes and I won’t give anything away, but I will say that it’s 2020. I just had a hard time believing a few things about her. But that’s just me.
I was able to get past those things and chalk them up to June’s quirky personality. And honestly, they worked in her favor when it came to Wes. I really enjoyed the way their relationship played out. It was long and drawn out (not in a bad way), and at times very entertaining.
Meghan really knows how to bring the funny. I laughed numerous times while reading this book. Wes and June went on some dates that turned into hilarious anecdotes. Wes’ friends Caden and Roman were quite funny and hopefully we will get their stories as well!
The Modern Gentleman is a quick read and if you’re looking for something funny and light and you’re a fan of Meghan’s books, this one is for you.
We have Wes, runs a popular column about well being the Modern Gentleman and boy you can tell right away this is not going to end good. He believes his column is a success because he thinks he can help men in dating and finding their true loves. The thing is has never experienced his own advices until now. Then we have an upcoming Broadway girl name June July Lacy showing him how wrong his advice is in every funny way. Seeing him go through his own dates yet getting all flustered when it comes to her is hillarious. June doesn’t make it easy for him which is great seeing him see that maybe he doesn’t really know women. These two are great together and yet felt there could have been more in June’s case. Wes by all counts is a man determined to find the one even if it means the truth hurting not just him more but the girl herself. All in all a great laugh all the way to the end making us see that even men get all crazy when it comes to dating putting themselves out there is tough.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
4.5 Stars
Meghan Quinn brought me another sweet and hilarious rom-com with The Modern Gentleman. I was laughing from the beginning to the end. The storyline was simple, just exactly as what was outlined on the book blurb. However, the crazily awkward incidences and goofy characters made the book so fun to read.
June was a unique character in this modern day. She was present to here surrounding at all times without all the distraction of modern technology. She made Wes work hard in courting her the right way. The cat and mouse game between them was old-fashioned but sweet. I loved this refreshing take in dating as compare to insta-love or jumping into a physical relationship before having the connection.
On the outside, Wes was the polished Modern Gentleman who dishes out relationship advice to clueless guys on an online column. However, when it was his turn to fall in love, he became as clueless as the next guy. I loved the goofy and sensitive side of Wes. He was honest, sweet and smart. He did mess up big but I just couldn’t be mad at him. His grand gesture in grovelling was sincere and swoony; you definitely have to google Jonas Brothers to add to the experience.
I had so much fun reading this fluffy and hilarious rom-com and would highly recommend it. The story introduced another band of goofy boys and I hope that we get to have their wacky stories soon.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

What an amazing 360! The Modern Gentleman was not what I was expecting. Like not at all!! I freakin’ loved it. I needed something new and different, with the dash of Meghan Quinn humor. I enjoyed this story and was lost in it for a couple of days. I was left with a lighter heart and I could not get enough! Before I knew it, I was on the last page. I loved everything about this book!
The Modern Gentleman was a highly entertaining romantic comedy. It was a little different from most in that it was told almost entirely (until at least 85%) from Wes’ point of view.
What makes this book hilarious is watching the cool suave and sophisticated (or so he thinks) Wes as he tries and fails to use his tried and true techniques on his woman of choice. After many near escapes and embarrassing misadventures, his lady loves sums it up perfectly as less ‘modern gentleman and more ***’ (no spoilers).
Like all books by this author, the characterisations are very well done. No one dimensional caricatures here, even the secondary characters are well developed, and I can only hope Wes’ boys, Caden and Roman, will get their own books. Roman especially is going to be very fun to watch ‘fall’. Meghan Quinn has great comedic timing, and the witty banter is always on point.
If you are looking for a smart, funny, romantic comedy with more than a few embarrassing groan moments, then look no further than The Modern Gentleman.
Lighthearted, fun and will keep a smile on your face! That is how I would describe The Modern Gentleman! Meghan Quinn has definitely delivered the laughs with this book!
How can you go wrong with a sassy, unique woman who has the hot, confident guy questioning everything he knows about woman and dating and still manages to sweep him off his feet! That is exactly what June does to Wes! Who’s said opposites don’t attract have never met these two!
This story is filled with laugh out loud moments, hysterical conversation and crazy scenarios.
The Modern Gentleman was funny, entertaining and so sweet. I loved it!
I loved June and Wes. I loved how they met, their personalities, chemistry between them and I really loved how cute together they are.
There were so many hilarious moments in this book. Some of them had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes, and even those that I found to be a little bit cheesy and unrealistic didn’t bother me at all. Reading this book made my day.
I loved how it was told from Wes’s POV. Usually we get both, or only heroines POV. It was different and refreshing. I’m not going to talk about what’s happening in this book. You just need to download it,sit and enjoy it. 4,5
Lovers of Meghan Quinn’s debut novel The Virgin Romance Novelist will leap for joy with the new release of The Modern Gentleman. Quinn trades her quirky female novelist for a social media advice columnist, Wes in The Modern Gentleman. Although Quinn has come a long way over the years developing her craft, she brings you back to her roots of hilarious, loveable romantic comedy that will once again split your sides while reading. I absolutely loved the premise of this book and all is laughter within.
Wes has game. Wes writes an advice column geared towards the men of NYC bringing them out of their frat boy ways and into the world of adult dating. When finally challenged to live up to his own advice, he flounders in the presence of dog walker and Broadway striving actress, June Lacy.
Quinn has a knack for writing a quirky female. Full of heart, spunk and everything in between June Lacy doesn’t disappoint. She is almost torturous as she plays hard to get with Wes. Although she is attracted to this bearded hottie, she also has past hurts and will stop at nothing to make sure he’s the real deal. Even if it means demolishing a nut sac or two.
As you can imagine from that description alone, this book is one laugh out loud comedy. I totally was cracking up while reading to the point my own husband got in on the action. Quinn does awkward like no one else. But is absolute comedic perfection each and every time. Although this one did remind me of my favorite book of Quinn’s featuring dear old Rosie girl, I will say that there were more than enough differences to separate the two. It was the overall feeling of love, laughter and romance that brought me back reminding me once again why Quinn is and continues to be one of my favorite go to authors.
Meghan Quinn just became one of my top authors, it’s hard for me to find books that can capture my mind away and completely change my mood to happiness in less than 3 chapters. The Modern Gentleman is drama-free, tear-free and a complete top the notch reading. This book is one of those you’re glad to find and a guarantee that you’ll enjoy.
Wes is the one behind the popular column The Modern Gentleman, he gives advices to men who find hard to date without embarrassing themselves; when his boss Frank asks for a different approach, a more personal approach for their readers, well things change for Wes, he is about to put to practice everything he had ever written. Except he didn’t expect to find the only girl in New York that was completely out of the loop, hence his rules, advices and experience wouldn’t work.
June is one of a kind, she lives the moment and when it comes to relationships, she takes it really slow, so she can really get to know the person before falling in love. Wes is everything she wants but life can’t make things that easier right? There must be a catch…
If you’re feeling like something light, hilarious and sexy, this is for you. I genuinely enjoyed this one, I don’t remember the last time I laugh out loud -at least ten times- while reading a book. Meghan Quinn is one of those authors you will always come back to because her stories are good for the soul and the heart!!
