Have you ever hit rock bottom? I embarrassingly have. It’s why I’m wearing my girl’s decorative scarf over my head, clutching her lady drink to my chest, and singing ever so softly to Joni Mitchell while swaying back and forth. This is what therapists refer to as LOSING IT. Oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy screws up MASSIVELY, girl tells boy to suffocate in the … girl tells boy to suffocate in the fruits of his very own unborn children.
Heard it before? I’m sure you have.
So what’s so different about this story? Well, it’s about me, The Modern Gentleman, New York City’s top advice columnist, and my rather ungraceful downfall from my pristinely polished pedestal.
It’s about a girl I met who threw all my proven theories to the wind and left me awkward, needy, and absolutely head-over-wingtipped shoes in love.
This is a story about June Lacy and how she single-handedly dismantled The Modern Gentleman.

The Modern Gentleman is the hilarious, modern twist on How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days I didn’t know I needed. I got sucked in from the first page and couldn’t put it down. After their meet cute over poo in the park, Wes tries his best to woo the quirky June. She really makes him work for it. I loved Wes, even when he made a couple questionable choices, and I really rooted for him and June. I also loved Wes’ group of friends, and hope to see more of them in future books. This was a super fun, hilarious, slow burn romance perfect for your next beach trip.
I highly recommend this book. This was laugh out loud funny. I loved the chemistry and crazy situations.
This book deserves all the laugh out loud stars I can give it and more!!! The Modern Gentleman was perfect in so many ways and further cements the feeling that in my eyes, Meghan’s writing can do no wrong. This book made my heart sing and had me literally crying with laughter that I swear those around me thought I was nuts – no pun intended (see what I did there – this will make sense when you read the book)
Wes and June were perfect characters! I loved how quirky and different June was, she was in no way your typical female from her multiple jobs to her lack of technology but she still managed to hook Wes in and really make him work for it. Wes was hilarious even when not trying to be! What started out as a work project very quickly became so much more and found him in situations, a number of which were highly painful and embarrassing that should have had you running for the hills – but not June!
From a chance meeting over dog poo to the elaborate lengths Wes went to to get his girl, I literally devoured every word of this book which was just what I needed right now! I applaud you Meghan for another brilliantly light hearted and funny read that will certainly keep me laughing when I remember it and gosh will I remember it!
Not as good as her other books, haracters were weird and hard to relate to them
It’s been ages since I laughed so much while reading a book. Initially the book seemed bane, but as the plot developed, it started to get weight, gather momentum, and develop a message. It was also historically funny and I enjoyed a whole lot.
Wes works for HYPE, a news and social media company, where he publishes an advice column called The Modern Gentleman. He gives advice to men about becoming suave modern gentlemen in today’s complicated dating world. He’s immensely successful and his column allows him to live in a cushy studio apartment in Central Park West. His boss has frequent tantrums where he shakes the tree, so to speak, and tries to force additional creativity and impactful offerings from his writers. On one such occasion, he forces Wes to write about being a modern gentleman on the field, how to stroll and score a lady and court her according to his column’s advice. After a week of bar hopping, he’s despairing of finding a woman interesting enough to keep his attention and serve as an example for his column.
One day, wandering around Central Park, he’s about to step on dog crap and this gorgeous and eccentric woman stops him. And bingo, he found his lady!
What happens next is a hilarious and sometimes profound story about a guy who starts his assignment about dating and ends up falling for his subject. And of course, there’s the upcoming doom of having to confess at some time and the danger of losing the woman he fell for. Meanwhile, he’s taken on a merry ride by June Lacy, a very special and quirky woman, who doesn’t give her phone until Wes works for it, won’t kiss until the tenth date, and tries really hard not to give her heart away.
I loved both characters but liked Wes more. He is such an easy going guy, a talented writer who formed a persona of a suave modern gentlemen who treat his ladies right.
“I cultivated my gentlemanly behavior in public and my alpha tendencies in the bedroom.”
He went from his college persona of a beer-guzzling, video-surfing guy to this gentlemanly type that he wonders sometimes who he really is. And what I found he was is a very kind and considerate man, who was delighted with this willful, refreshing woman who had very clear ideas on how to negotiate a relation which was very different form his ideas. And yet, he always adapted and accepted and kept her wellbeing as his priority.
There’s a phrase related to their first date: “It was my first time using a tang to puncture someone’s thang.” You have to read it to find out with laughs out loud guaranteed!
Wes has two best friends and co-workers, Roman and Caden, that are like his accomplices. They perform a Jonas brothers routine that was hysterically funny. This book was so entertaining while having such a lovely love story. It felt light hearted but had its profound moments. It’s a real mood booster!
I had a hard time with this book. The couple to me didn’t have chemistry. I also had a hard time believing that things that did would endear them to each other. It does have a cute happy ending. Just not my type of book.
It’s not a secret that I love anything Meghan Quinn writes and The Modern Gentlemen is one of her funniest to date. I have never laughed so hard while reading a book.
Wesley writes a newspaper column called The Modern Gentleman and his boss has decided that he needs to find someone to date and write about it for his column. Cue a hilarious meet-cute with June July. June is nothing like the other women that Wes has dated and she keeps him on his toes. Problem is that June doesn’t know he’s writing about their relationship. Will she forgive him when she inevitably finds out?
With one hilarious situation after another, we relive their courtship. This story is truly a romantic comedy that will leave you laughing until the end.
Wow, what an amazing story! You will fall in love with these characters! Lori does an amazing job with getting you to feel what her characters are feeling, I fell in love with little Sadie who is wise beyond her age, and her dad Tash and of course the Somerset sisters Ember & Autumn! This is a can’t miss 5 star story by Lori, make sure you grab this one when it releases!
This spin on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is Hilarious.
Wes is a columnist and gives insightful dating advise to men, when his boss wants him to write about wooing a girl. June is the perfect girl for Wes because she is the opposite of every woman he has met. I love how he trips over himself at every turn the majority of this book is his POV which is fun. But near the end June gets her voice. Loved the laugh this was so good.
5 Stars
Wesley Waldorft Williams will have you swooning over his goofiness. Meghan Quinn has upped her RomCom game with The Modern Gentleman. Wes and June will have you falling in love with this story and all the quirkiness that is them as individuals and as a couple. A slow burn love story that is packed with the perfect mix of laughter and emotions. I loved it so much.

Wes is the Modern Gentleman, but when his boss wants him to make his advice column more personal he either finds a girl to document his dating methods and advice or he gets fired.
June is as unconventional and unique as they come. She breaks all of the modern dating rules. And, she turns Wes into a nervous, tongue tied and untried suitor . . . about as far from the suave modern gentleman he portrays as possible.
What starts as an assignment for Wes quickly turns into so much more as he quickly falls for June. But, as you can tell from the blurb, not sharing with her that their dates have become the basis for his advice column doesn’t go over well . . . and now, the Modern Gentleman needs to fix things with June before he completely falls from grace.
The Modern Gentleman was a true romantic comedy of errors and mishaps! I laughed out loud throughout, giggling with glee and murmuring poor Wes! While hilarious, I also found the story to be extremely heartfelt as well. It really will leave you with all the feels. And the story telling from Meghan Quinn was absolutely amazing! 5 stars.
This book is funny as heck and I didn’t even realize the time was passing as I read. I was trying to slow it down at the end to make it last longer, but that doesn’t really work.
Wes made the story for me. Well, and his friends. And Frank. He was truly a great book boyfriend starting with how he pined for his girl when she left him. Nothing seemed to deter him from his quest for June’s heart.
June was quirky – maybe a little too quirky, but it worked even though I would have liked to see her crack during a few intense times to show her true feelings.
The whole background of the story was really clever with the column and the dates they went on together. It’s a uniquely interesting book you’ll enjoy.
Addictively sweet and funny! I laughed and swooned and loved every word of this terrific rom com. One of my favorites from this author. Delicious characters and a one-of-a-kind love story. Such a hilarious start with lovely moments and crazy events that bond the swoon-worthy, gentlemanly Wes and the quirky, wonderful June. Their journey to love is a series of missteps and bloopers with laughs at every turn. I loved that Wes aspired to being cool and always a gentleman but underneath he was an endearing goof with a secret agenda. That agenda was propelled by his boss and his job was potentially at risk if he didn’t complete his assignment. Even though their relationship started out less than truthful on Wes’ part, it didn’t take long before he was smitten by the aspiring actress, June. She is a fantastic heroine with heart and beauty and strength and perfect for the modern gentleman. Wes’ buddies Roman and Caden were hilarious and I hope they get their own stories. I zipped through this funny, sexy romance with laugh-out-loud, feel-good moments, and a truly wonderful couple in Wesley Waldorf and June July. Absolutely fantastic! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
5 stars for The Modern Gentleman by Meghan Quinn. I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own. I am a big fan of Meghan Quinn and just when I think she can’t top a book; she comes out with the next one and wows us all. This book is another hit in a long line of hits by Meghan Quinn. Just like all of Meghan’s other rom coms this book will have you laughing out loud and maybe even shed a couple tears. Wes and June are fantastic characters. Wed is a character that you will love to watch grow. He is a character and you will all fall in love with him. He is a good man from the start, but he gets even better as the book goes on. June is a witty, spit fire and I absolutely loved her carefree attitude. While, this book is mostly in Wes’s point of view nothing is taken away from the story. We do get a little of June’s point of view though so do not be to sad. This is a story that you will fall in love with the characters and you just will not have a choice about it. It was a lighthearted, funny, and witty love story. Do not worry even though it is lighthearted it still has the drama that we all love. This is a must read, another great book from Meghan Quinn.
This story was not my favorite by this author. I had a hard time connecting with the heroine, June, because of her reluctance to part with her phone number. I enjoyed reading more about our Hero, Wes’ relationship with his friends, Roman and Caden. Wes created the persona of the Modern Gentleman, who provides dating advice for men in a monthly column he writes. His boss “forces” Wes and some of the other columnists to “personalize” their articles by writing about their experiences to overcome some personal struggles. For Wes, that means finding a girlfriend and chronicling their relationship. In today’s society, I had a hard time accepting this “assignment” since he threatened their jobs if they failed to provide the content he was looking for.
I liked the way Wes and June met and her reluctance to hand over her telephone number right away. But then I felt she prolonged what came after, and had I been Wes, I would have given up. Because the majority of the story is written from Wes’ point of view, he didn’t really explain why he was so drawn to June. It seemed like a mixture of curiosity and desperation for content he needed for his articles.
June’s voice finally comes out towards the end of the book, and I truly enjoyed those last couple of chapters when the POV switches back and forth. That’s what saved the story for me.. I wish there had been more “interjections” by June throughout because then I might have felt something for this couple. It ended with a HEA for them, but this story missed the boat for me as I didn’t really enjoy their journey.
4.5 stars
This was a quick, hilarious, swoon-worthy read. Meghan Quinn can do no wrong.
Wes is a writing contributor at HYPE media. He write a column called The Modern Gentleman where he gives advice for people transitioning from frat boy to a gentleman. His boss is tasking everyone with new writing assignments and Wes’ is to find someone, date and woo them and write the process. All while maintaining his “modern gentleman” persona.
Enter June Lacy. Aspiring Broadway actress and part time dog walker, she meets Wes in the park, shouting for him to avoid walking in a fresh pile of dog doo. June is not like most girls and he thinks she will the perfect date for his article…. only June has Wes throwing out his standard playbook.
So will June fall for Wes? And will June find out about the article? Definitely one-click this hilarious adventure.
Hopefully we will get a Roman and Camden books 🙂
The Modern Gentleman is Rom-Com perfection! It is told mainly from We’s POV and I loved that. When June gets her say… it just made me laugh.
Wes is the NY advice columnist who falls for quirky June! What is his demise is that he’s not quite honest with her and when she finds this out- it breaks her heart. How he gets her back is swoony. Really- he is swoony throughout the whole book as he falls for June. June gives him a run for his money and makes him fall hard. I laughed so much watching the two of them fall in love.
Meghan Quinn gives readers another amazing book. I did not want it to end. I wanted more of them at the end as Wes had to prove his love was real. I wanted to see more of June’s side to at the end too because her added parts just made me laugh and fall in love with both of them so much!
Lighthearted, quirky fun read.
This story is told in the main hero Wes’ perspective. As a dating advice columnist, he tries to apply his advice on himself.
A series of hilarious, cute misadventures follow him when he meets and tries to woo June.
Well written and sweet, I really enjoyed Wes. June was not a very easy character to like, but the story was so funny it didn’t take away from my enjoyment!
Oh My Daysss !!
This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and it was absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed reading this book and I cant believe its the first that I’ve read by this author. I’m so glad I picked it up and I highly recommend everyone reads this funny romantic comedy romance book as its awesome.
Wes is the Official Modern Day Gentleman and he’s having a crisis of his own. The Modern Day Gentleman is just that he’s very confident, sexy a real gentleman.
He writes the dating articles and gives out advice to man in sticky situations. When his boss gives him an assignment to apply all his dating advice to his actual life and write about it he knows it isn’t going to be as easy as he thinks.
When he’s about to give up he meets June but believe me she is not a push over and she doesn’t make it is for him to date her.
June hates it that people are always looking down at there electronics instead of out at the world and believes that how they miss life. When Wes is doing just that she pulls him up on it. June is a lovely bubbly person with a quirky personality and when these two meet sparks fly immediately.
( NO SPOILERS)
This book is hilarious and I absolutely loved reading it that I read it all in one go, I just couldn’t put it down and I couldn’t get enough of Wes and June. The characters were written absolutely brilliant and the story line was so good, it was fantastic. This slow burn, sweet loving romance was fabulous to see and even though it has the same feel to it as ‘ How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days’ its got a great moments that will have you laughing out loud. The banter between the characters was freaking awesome, they have great chemistry and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen and I also loved reading the articles from Wes to. I loved this authors writing style and I highly recommend this Rom Com to everyone when it gets released.
I knew I was going to love this book from the prologue and I always love book that have epilogue and prologues as I feel like it always adds something extra special to the story. I will defiantly look forward to this authors work in the future.
Thank you to the author and the publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is expected to be released on 14th May 2020
This was so damn hilarious! It’s short, but packed with witty banters and unimaginable incidents that will have you laughing out loud. The way the story was told was different than any books I’ve read. I’m kind of weirded out about June at first, her character’s definitely not my what I usually liked. But then when she get to tell her part of story, I kind of liked her side of story, more spontaneous and more fun at the end.
