Another great story to add to the series
This is another brilliantly crafted story that is a great addition to the series. This slightly spicy plot has the characters continuing to investigate their friends death, and needing to thwart a controlling father in his attempt to force his daughter to wed the suspect.
I purchased this as part of a 3 book bundle the author offered called THE UNDAUNTED DEBUTANTES.
A murder takes place in book 1 and as I’ve finished book 2 the murder of their friend is still not solved. So be warned, if you don’t read the series, this will be hanging in the air.
At times, the h came across as too brass in her actions. The H needed more of a back bone and I can’t believe he let the h’s father talk to him the way he did. I still enjoyed the story and how it unfolded.
There is some groping and passionate kisses, but the “act” doesn’t happen.
I did enjoy the scene with the h/H fencing. There isn’t much romance in either book 1 or 2 so if that is something you like in your stories.
Some mystery, many villains, murder is unsolved, HEA, no cheating, not all is resolved. (ljb)
This is the second book in the series about three friends, Lady Lucianna, Lady Edith and Lady Ophelia, determined to uncover evidence that their friend, Duchess Tilda Abercorn, was murdered on her wedding night by the Duke of Abercorn. Lucianna knows what she saw and she has no problem vocalizing her opinion about Abercorn or writing about it in the Gazette. While no one believes her about Abercorn, she’s determined to expose every misdeed by gentlemen of the ton including the Duke of Montrose, Roderick Crofton, but could she have gotten things wrong about Roderick and scandalized the wrong man?
I was eager to find out what really happened to Tilda, and this plot does move the mystery forward, but it’s mostly about the developing romance between Lucianna and Roderick. I loved Roderick especially his honor and determination to keep Lucianna safe especially from her cruel and overbearing father. Ms. McKnight weaves another enjoyable story of the three friends. I’m anxiously awaiting Ophelia’s story and to finally learning who killed Tilda. Fans of Regency romance will definitely enjoy this book, but it would be better served reading the first book to fully understand everything the young women are trying to do.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Lady Lucianna witnessed her friend Tilda fall down the stars on her wedding night to the Duke of Abercorn. Believing that Abercorn pushed Tilda to her death Luci and her friends Edith and Ophelia set out to prove Abercorn is guilty of murder. Imagine Luci’s surprise when she learns that her hateful father has betrothed her to Abercorn. The Duke of Montrose Roderick has asked for her hand to but for a totally different reason he needs the money that she would come with to restore his fortune. Ahh but then he falls in love.
I love how this book keeps you turning pages to see what happens next. If you haven’t read the first one in the series I suggest that you do as it will help you understand more about what is going on and all the characters. I can’t wait for Lady Ophelia’s story. I highly recommend this book and this series.
An enjoyable read. Lucianna is a beautiful, strong lady and Roderick is a caring gentleman. Both overcome their preconceived ideas of each other to find love.
