This woman is lucky she didn’t lose the Duke fully. Let’s just her mischievousness could have seriously backfired and the Ton could have really taken her down. This is story is whimsical and based on a stupid’s woman’s pride. I felt sorry for the poor maid that had to play her. She is the real victim in this farce, yet the author did not take her into account when everything came out. As for the Duke, he can marry anyone he wants to, because he’s a Duke, only the Duke needed money to keep his newly inherited title from folding in on itself. I found Isabella selfish, unthinking and very stupid in her plan to fool the Duke. As far as I’m concerned, the Duke should have exposed her plan to show her how selfish and unthinking she was. I don’t understand how he could love such a manipulative woman.
Isabella Desmarais has her life turned upside down when her father cancels her engagement for to marry another man of his choosing. Thomas Wilmington has just returned from Scotland to become the Duke in his late father’s place.I had to smile as she changes place with the maid and then falls in love with Thomas.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a page turner and kept me enthralled to see what would happen next. I also enjoyed the depth of the characters and the storyline. Overall a good book.
What an exciting book. A great, well-written story. Wow, way to tell a lie and have it blow up in your face, no matter how good the intentions were. I loved the characters, they are likeable and engaging. Except Mr Chalet, who was a greedy, oily snake of a man. But the story plot moved right along with lots of twists and turns. I didn’t know what would happen next, and I couldn’t put it down. I love the extended epilogue, but I think it’s annoying to have to go online and enter your email address again in order to read the extended epilogue. It seems like an unnecessary step, why not just put it at the end of the book? Otherwise, a very enjoyable read.

The scenes are so descriptive and detailed it’s easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Remarkable job Henrietta, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
I have read several of Ms. Harding’s books and enjoyed them, however this one disappoints. DECEIT: the quality of being dishonest or misleading. For the first third of the book I was not enamored with Isabella. She appeared prideful, spoiled and entitled. It did not sit well with me how hard she tried to deceive Thomas only to fall into his arms at every opportunity when she was acting as the maid. Thomas being a duke, should have known better than to dally with the staff. It did not do him any credit how he disregarded and disrespected the arrangement he had to wed Isabella’s faux mistress. I started skipping through the dialogue as it was becoming tedious to me. Isabella found out why Thomas agreed for the marriage. It was because her father was to pay all his debt. She became indignant. Which I found funny because she was deceiving him. She was not so innocent in the relationship either. When her malfeasance and duplicity was uncovered everything fell apart. Her heart was in grave danger. Despite this I had a hard time mustering up any sympathy for Isabella. I felt bad for Thomas. If the purpose of the author was to incite displeasure for Isabella’s character, she succeeded. At about three quarters of the way into the book, it finally became interesting enough so that my full attention was on each page. When I read the epilogue, thankfully it ended with an HEA. Then when I read the extended epilogue, I did not want the story to end.
