This damsel-in-distress thought she was spilling her secrets to a doctor. Turns out? The gentleman is an Earl. He’s also her new employer…Miss Adelaide is down on her luck and on the run when she finally collapses at Evercliff Manor. Perhaps it’s exhaustion that has her spilling her secrets to the kind doctor tending to her–or maybe it’s his warm, compelling eyes. Then again, maybe it’s just … it’s just another case of sheer bad luck.
It turns out the kindly doctor who now knows her deepest, darkest secrets is not really a doctor at all. He’s an earl. Worse, he’s her employer. And he’s decided that Adelaide will be his next project. With his assistance, and the help of her newfound friends at the newly formed School of Charm, Miss Adelaide might just land on her feet. If only she doesn’t lose her heart…

This sweet story features one of my favorite tropes—falling in love unwillingly—and a bit of action and drama to make this a fun read!
It’s well paced and a great introduction to the young ladies at the School of Charm.
Loved watching the ladies fall in love.
The Misadventures of Miss Adelaide
is a thoroughly delightful story. i loved it.
What is true and what is not? That is the question!
What would you do if an evil crazy man were after your child? Of course you would do everything you could to protect them. That’s exactly what Miss Adelaide did. Furthermore, she felt fearful of anyone finding out her true story as they might have put two and two together. Although the plot here seemed a bit contrived, considering the times it could have been plausible. The characters in this book have just enough background on them to enjoy their personalities. Considering the length of this book, it is not surprising. However, it leaves just enough unsaid to motivate you to want to read the other books in this series written separately about each one. I would like to especially read the one about Louisa. She strikes me as one whom I would like to have for a friend. I wish I could have read more background on Lord Tolston but I understand he is a more in-depth character in another book. I especially enjoyed the romance between Miss Adelaide and Lord Tolston however very fast and deep it was. It made for a very satisfying HEA. If nothing else, this book makes for a great entertaining read sweet and clean. I can easily recommend it.
There isn’t even a scene where the toddler talks instead it’s all angst. The way the fight scene was described took all the immediacy out of it leaving a vague dream like encounter.
Adelaide is working as a housemaid when she collapses from a combination of hunger, exhaustion, and vertigo. While she refuses to tell Lord Alec the truth, the reader soon learns Addie’s horrible story. Her mother died shortly after giving birth to Reggie. Addie’s father died not long after, and her uncle Duncan became the guardian of the estate with Addie and Reggie as his wards. Duncan exhibits signs of madness and cruelty, but Addie only runs away when Duncan threatens to kill Reggie in order to inherit the entire estate. All of these events are Addie’s secret, and she lets everyone assume that Reggie is her illegitimate son, believing that no one will believe her tale of Duncan’s evil. This delightful romance has just a hint of suspense that makes for a very good read.
Well written, riveting plot with little redundancy. I enjoy a happily ever after!
I really enjoyed this story. It’s a quick easy read about a girl who takes on the responsibility of her young sibling. This leads her into some dangerous situations but luckily she finds some help.
Adelaide/Addie is down on her luck and on the run when she finally collapses at the manor where she is an employee. She spills her darkest secrets to what she thinks is a doctor tending her. It turns out that he is a not a doctor. He is an earl and her employer, Alec. He decides that Adelaide will be his next project. With his assistance and newfound friends at the newly formed School of Charm, Adelaide might land on her feet. She may also lose her heart. – This is a good historical romance. I love Alec. He is kind, caring, and trustworthy. Addie is brave and easy to love. It was frustrating that she kept her secret so long, but she was naïve and afraid. The school’s manager was sweet, and the girls there were e
Very lovely book. Quick reading in one sitting. Enjoyable and fun to read
Right now I’m very ill and having difficulty concentrating, so this was a great book I could put down then pick up later. Addy was a great lady who didn’t know who to trust but she was young with a great responsibility to her little brother
I enjoyed the book. The one sticking point with me was it seemed like there was a great age difference between Addie and Tolston. But in the Epilogue she seemed so much more mature. I do like the part where she made new friends of the girls at the school, but some still seemed untrustworthy. A good book to take your mind off the real world for awhile.
drama, heart pounding escapes and a terrible revelation of the depravity of people. But also of the tender awareness of goodness and character willing to help others and accept a wealth of potential problems as part of the bargain.
Good simple read, but predictable-why do all authors have to make females so meek but untrusting? All so plotted…
Wonderful romantic read
Enjoyed it.
I surprised myself by liking this so much. I like a tad of spice in my stories and this is clean, with only a kiss or two.
What our h endured, with so much sorrow in a short period of time. She is smart enough to understand, she needs to run to protect her brother. She ends up as a maid in a household of an Earl and mistakes him for a doctor who was called.
I am not a fan where secrets are kept throughout the story, as it is in this one. BUT, you realize why she can’t trust anyone so in this case I understood.
There is a nasty villain, so many wonderful secondary character’s that will make you want to search out their stories. We have suspense, intrigue and romance that builds slowly as does trust.
We are treated to an epilogue 1 year in the future, HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger and clean. (ljb)
A delightful romantic story that captivated my imagination from the start!
The heroine is on the run from her cruel guardian, who wants to make sure her baby brother is not a threat to him assuming the title of Addie’s family estate.
Addie takes a job as a maid, but end’s up being found out by her employer, Lord Radcliffe. You see it was the soft hand’s that gave her away! Alex becomes protective of her (he could not leave a young girl to be harmed on the streets!) and takes her to the School of Charm thinking she will be safe there.
But of course it could never be that simple due to Addie having to go retrieve her baby brother and Alex’s catches her!
I really just want to tell you about the entire story, because it really grabbed my heart and would not let go until the end! Maggie Dallen is the ultimate storyteller as she weaves adventure and an unlikely pair together who are just perfect for each other… If only they can see that!
A magical beginning to a new series that promises to bring hours of entertainment and I cannot wait until the next one arrives!!
I enjoyed reading this story of Adelaide and Radcliffe, she must keep her brother safe from her cousin and lies to find a job, where she meets Radcliffe assuming him as a doctor instead of Lord. She lies about her brother being her son to protect him even though it places her in a scandal as an unwed mother. Radcliffe cannot seem to get her off his mind even though she is not the kind of woman he should be thinking of for marriage. He puts her and her son (brother) in Charm school but will that keep them out of danger?
The story is beautifully written, and the characters are well developed. I would highly recommend it.
This clean historical romance had plenty of suspense with Addie running from her greedy cousin guardian with her baby brother Reggie, not sure if she can trust her employer The Earl of Tolston with their secrets and lives. Alec doesn’t know what to believe when he finds a lady disguised as a housemaid in his house and he finds out she has a child. Even though it would be scandalous to marry a fallen noblewoman, she’s the one he wants. But he doesn’t know how to fully protect her when she won’t tell him the truth. I don’t blame Addie for being scared and not knowing who to trust when no one would believe her cousin was so evil. I loved Miss Grayson and her pupils at the school of charm. I’m looking forward to reading their stories in the future.
