Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of … journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. The Miraculous Journey Of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo is an absolutely charming children’s story, perfect for ages five and over.
It is a story about awakening a heart and learning what love is. A closed heart is a closed life. A heart that loves, lives.
The main protagonist is a china rabbit. We follow his adventures as he adapts and changes.
The novel is beautifully illustrated with the most charming pictures.
I did have a favourite story within the lifetime of Edward Tulane. See if you do too.
The whole book is beautiful. I read it alone in just one sitting. I imagine it would be wonderful to read aloud to your children or grandchildren and share Edward Tulane’s journey with them.
This book would make a beautiful addition to any bookshelf.
While this is a children’s book, it’s totally worth reading – for everyone. I gave it to my daughter to read to her two young boys, and I also gave her two stuffed rabbits, one dressed like a boy, the other dressed like a girl. The boys hold their rabbits while she reads this remarkable and moving story to them. These are the stories and the times we cherish in life.
It’s amazing and I used to read this with my class and friends.
Oh, what a beautiful story of love, loss, searching, finding, and learning to love. Edward Tulane is a beautiful ceramic rabbit owned and cherished by a little girl named Abilene Tulane. Abilene loses Edward on a trip across the ocean and thus begins Edward’s journey. The miraculous part of the journey is who Edward meets along the way and where he finally ends up. I love, love, love this beautiful story.
The language and the rhythm of this book flow like those of an ancient fairy tale, melodious, but weighty. Edward, the china-faced rabbit, cannot realize his potential until he learns to open his heart to others. The reader follows Edward through a pilgrimage, each stage at which he faces struggles and joys. Along the way he meets an eclectic group of characters who shape his thinking and help him grow. The illustrations are lovely, and the book has an important message.
This is my all-time favorite book! I first read it when I was a little girl and it was love at first read. The story touched my heart and made me fall in love with every character in it. To me, this book is absolute perfection!

I loved it!!
It is a great book to share with good friends my teacher read it and it was great.
amazing
As a teacher, this is my favorite book ever for upper elementary students. I taught in Harlem, NY and this book caused 4th grade boys to cry. Truly an emotional experience for both myself and my students. I share this book with friends and they enjoy it just as much as children do. Edward Tulane is a unique, yet relatable character. The underlying message of this book is to love and have hope. I can’t express my love for this book. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane continues to pull on my heart strings each time I reread it.
Edward Tulane is a porcelain rabbit whose adventures find him at the whim of a wider world, both kind and sometimes cruel. In this beautifully told story, children will find themes of resilience, love, and also the capriciousness of fate. The ending is heartwarming, though, and this book is perfect for family reading time, a chapter in a sitting being just about right.

What an adventure! It’s amazing what a great story Kate DiCamillo creates through the eyes and ears of a toy rabbit. A really original and fascinating read.
One of the best children’s books I have read. I love a happy ending!
