The sensational New York Times bestseller The Mill River Recluse reminds us that friendship, family, and love can come from the most unexpected places. Perfect for fans of Maeve Binchy.
From the outside, Mill River looks like any sleepy little Vermont town where everyone knows everyone and people never need to lock their doors. There are newcomers for whom this appeals, from police officer Kyle … whom this appeals, from police officer Kyle Hansen and his daughter Rowen, who are starting over after heartache, to Claudia Simon, the schoolteacher who is determined to reinvent herself.
But on closer inspection, there are those in Mill River — including a stealthy arsonist, a covetous nurse, and a pilfering priest — who have things they wish to hide. None more than the widow Mary McAllister, who for the past 60 years has secluded herself in her marble mansion overlooking the town. Most of the residents have never even seen the peculiar woman. Only the priest, Father O’Brien, knows the deep secrets that keep Mary isolated — and that, once revealed, will forever change the community.

Engaging. Reading the second Mill River book now.
This book gives good insight into mental illness. The main character was abused by a teacher and then becomes self socially isolating. The supporting characters are also very interesting.
Made me think more compassionately about people who experience traumatic events that change them and their lives.
Enjoyed the characters even though I could not identify personally with their phobias. Sweet view of small town life.
Unrealistic and sappy.
Almost finished reading, a little confusing at the start but keeps getting better.
Enjoyed it when I read it!!
I really enjoyed this story and the next two books. The characters are rich and well developed. There was joy and sadness and I felt it deeply while reading.
A bittersweet story that is interesting but lacks the development that I tend to enjoy. Writing style is quite simplistic and characters are one dimensional.
Appearances can be deceiving. The main character was misunderstood by the town. If they had only realized how much she cared about them, the relations between her and town would have been different.
Well crafted story with engaging characters.
I found it a very nice easy read .
It captured me and I couldn’t put it down. So happy to learn there is a sequel which I just bought.
Wonderful book! Characters were interesting. Great moral.
Loved this book & immediately bought the two sequels!
A very different type of story and leading characters, but intriguing to the end.
I really enjoyed this book and the different personalities portrayed. I would read it again.
It was very easy to like the characters in this book, and how everyone has their own flaws. An easy yet interesting read.
I would recommend. Out of much tragedy came such unselfish giving instead of much bitterness. Great inspirational read.
Mental disorders don’t always mean “crazy”, many people live with mind disorders and the main character in this story is one of them. It makes you understand how much we all have a life story and how it impacts our behaviors and environment.
Loved The Story, and these Characters!! I recommend it
