Refreshingly different, thoroughly enjoyable YA urban fantasy.
This book was a breath of fresh air. I loved it.
Cate, a strong, feisty, capable and independent young woman, was an extremely likeable character who handles well being thrown into a new and unsettling world. The other characters were equally complex and believable and even the opposing faction were likeable.
Interesting, and also much more realistic, was the way in which the author dealt with the two factions. Neither black nor white in their decisions and actions as far as moral rightness is assessed, the shades of grey made this a much more thought provoking read.
A unique take on time travel, great world building and plenty of action and humour amidst the magical mayhem made this story a pleasure to read. There are also some zinger twists awaiting.
Definitely a book to add to your reading pile, age no barrier, I’m several decades past young adult and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now waiting, not so patiently, for book two of The Midnight Chronicles.
I loved this book!!! I literally couldn’t put it down and since I can only read at bedtime….that made things difficult for me. So without spoiling the story, let me say that there are twists and turns everywhere in this book. Even though it was written as a YA book, at 53 I still loved reading it! The main character, Cate, is well developed and complex. She has to face many challenges and rises to the occasion every time while still retaining her basic morality and conscience. There are several times throughout the book where I truly did not expect the twist that came up. I would read this book again in a heartbeat and am recommending it to my daughter and her friends that are teens.
Plans don’t always go the way you expect
We meet a lot of people at the beginning of the book. Each person has their own personality They all grow and change as the story progresses. We encounter a lot of action and drama. This story has multiple twists and turns which leave the reader guessing what will happen next. It also piques the curiosity. The plot flows well. Cate and Eve are interesting and likable. Cate is learning a lot about her family in a short time that she didn’t know previously and her responses are relatable. She is tough. This was a great book and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Zach broke up with Cate over the phone with out an good explanation why? then we have 3 teenagers are on a mission to do a job for their boss, Cate thought that her mother sent people out to came after her. On a wonderful day all of sudden the world has completely frozen by Rose, Austin, Rafe and Jonah. Will Cate and Jonah cross each other paths in the near future? What will happen next?

I really enjoyed this book but, at times, I was annoyed with certain characters. I felt like I couldn’t read more but I’m glad I pushed through and read it. It is a good book – worth a try!
