#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Lee Child returns with a gripping new powerhouse thriller featuring Jack Reacher, “one of this century’s most original, tantalizing pop-fiction heroes” (The Washington Post).BONUS: Includes a sneak peek of Lee Child’s new novel, Past Tense. Reacher takes a stroll through a small Wisconsin town and sees a class ring in a pawn shop window: West Point 2005. A tough … ring in a pawn shop window: West Point 2005. A tough year to graduate: Iraq, then Afghanistan. The ring is tiny, for a woman, and it has her initials engraved on the inside. Reacher wonders what unlucky circumstance made her give up something she earned over four hard years. He decides to find out. And find the woman. And return her ring. Why not?
So begins a harrowing journey that takes Reacher through the upper Midwest, from a lowlife bar on the sad side of small town to a dirt-blown crossroads in the middle of nowhere, encountering bikers, cops, crooks, muscle, and a missing persons PI who wears a suit and a tie in the Wyoming wilderness.
The deeper Reacher digs, and the more he learns, the more dangerous the terrain becomes. Turns out the ring was just a small link in a far darker chain. Powerful forces are guarding a vast criminal enterprise. Some lines should never be crossed. But then, neither should Reacher.

“A gem.”—Chicago Tribune
“A timely, suspenseful, morally complex thriller, one of the best I’ve read this year . . . Child weaves in a passionately told history of opioids in American life. . . . Child’s outrage over it is only just barely contained.”—The Philadelphia Inquirer

Not quite your normal Reacher.
Like all Lee Child after you read a book you can’t wait until til the next one. After first book you are hooked.
A little off Child’s usual books, and I’ve read them all.
I’m a big fan of Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” books normally, this one was just okay. Don’t get me wrong, the descriptions of locations, actions and characters are typical Child but the pacing seems to creep and the back & forth from various viewpoints just didn’t hold my interest. Also, one character is left hanging in limbo, leaving us to guess what the heck happened, which makes me wonder what was his editor thinking or is this sloppiness something we can expect in the future. If this is your 1st Lee Child book, don’t strike him off your list of authors based on this one book, the others are so much better.
One of Childs best. Worth the wait. One more to go!
Lee Child could sell as many Reacher books as he wants. Great thoughts keep you involved in the book.
A quick-read, this new Lee Child’s novel finds his character Jack Reacher doggedly searching out the owner of a West Point class ring he finds in a pawn shop. This teams him with a PI and his client as they chase leads and meet unsavory people in the unpopulated open spaces of the west. The language is minimal, the interaction interesting and the unfolding investigation drives the reader to try to figure out the mystery of the ring’s owner. A good action novel to read aloud to your fellow.
Typical Lee Child excellent page-turner.
Good as always
I have read all of the Jack Reacher novels and love them all. Always waiting for the next one to come out.
Reacher is my favorite character, and I look forward to each new release.
