With freedom, comes uncertainty, and with uncertainty, comes mistakes.Mave has been making a lot of those. As she draws closer to the Free Cities of Olost, she finds herself juggling between learning about her people, and learning the nuances of the males around her. Males she has to work with if she wants to survive the world she’s about to jump into feet first as the newest member of the Ivory … member of the Ivory Shadow Mercenary Company. She has no choice but to learn to trust them.
Through all of it, Mave has found herself hopeful for Olost and the new beginnings she’s found. The opportunities of new friendships, new family, and maybe more draws her further out of her shell every moment. With all of her courage, she continues to take those shaky first steps, leaving the life of slavery and being an outcast far behind her.
But freedom doesn’t hold all the promises she hoped it did. Olost might be free, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe.
Her enemies will never rest and neither can she.

Mave and the Ivory Shadows are back – Mave is still adjusting to freedom and trying to figure out what it really means to be Andinna. I liked seeing Mave figuring out her feelings and figuring out how to connect. I also like that we see POV’s from a variety of other characters. I liked Luykas more in this book – he was a little less arrogant. I also likes seeing the relationships continue to develop in her mayara. While this book still has action, for me this book was more about seeing the relationships develop more and learning more about the cultural dynamics. I am hooked on this series and can’t wait for more.
I’m loving Mave and her men so far <3 I just love how things are progressing, the character development as she adjusts to freedom. The action and jobs are fun and exciting. Book 3 is too far away and I need a fix!
This book was amazing. This series is one of the best series I have ever read. It’s unique, thrilling, and the world building that Kristen Banet creates is flawless. I can’t wait to see who joins the harem, who will resist until the last second, and Traven! I can’t wait until we see that scene unfold. I look forward to the next installment.
Overall: 5/5
What a great book I loved the character building in this one, getting deeper into who they are and just like I knew I would I love Bryn…. Swoon and Sigh Ok let’s see who is next I think I know and cannot wait for book 3 and more!!!
I was nervous and giddy to start reading this book. I thought I knew what to expect, and in some aspects I did. This book was everything I didn’t know I needed about this series, but also a bit of what I expected. I expected to add another Adinna to the harem, which we got. I did not expect Nevan to be a priest and rage at Luykas about the bond. I kind of guessed who would be the next person to join, which was nice to see. It was also good to learn more about Alchan.
I enjoyed Mat puffing out his chest and showing off for Mave. I loved Mave’s dominance in not lowering her eyes for anyone. I was positively delighted to know that Alchan was amused by Mave’s reaction to him, and simultaneously groaning at Mave’s reaction to him. (In fairness it was the only way she would react and it made me laugh).
The absolute devastation and realness of Rain’s emotions in dealing with his aftermath was perfect. Zayden being an overbearing dad, and basically the grandpa friend was entertaining, especially since he didn’t realize that is what he was.
Things I wish we knew more about. WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVE!?!?! Also, I need Dave to help Trevan escape. I need Trevan to then meet up and join the company, maybe Dave too. I am positively ecstatic for the next book that should be released sometime in September, if everything goes to plan.
Oh, and that fight scene in the forest was epic and everything I needed. Also, the fight scene with Luykas and Mave using the bond to be the most badass fighters ever taking down a sorcerer together was something I never knew I needed and I am stoked about it seeing where that progresses (He is so in the Harem).
I can’t express enough how much I love this series. Mercenary’s Bounty didn’t disappoint. It came out just as strong as book one did.
The world Kristen continues building in each book is engaging and almost tangible. You can’t help but feel something for each character you meet. You experience their highs and the lows as they do.
Now I’m back to craving more, like an itch under my skin I just can’t seem to satisfy completely, until the next book releases.
OMG this series so freaking amazing! Who needs to sleep when you can read such an epic story. I could not put this one down and it was better than the first. There were so many emotions in this one. It’s filled with angst, drama, action and violence, friends and family, loyalty and love as well as some hot and heavy sexy times.
I love the growth Mave makes, I love reading her story and am in aww of her strength, her determination to learn and move forward, her ability to love and forge new friendships even with everything she has endured in the last 1000yrs.
I love this world Kristen has created and I love the characters both ones in her harem and not. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this epic series and I am dying to know all that will be part of Mave’s harem.
Fantasy. Rh. 2/? Mercenaries. A created world setting. Mav and the Ivory Shadow Mercenary Company voyage to their home of Free Andinna. This one focused more on Andinna culture/traditions/interactions. ISMC’s relationships and inner turmoil. Great world building. Love that the Andinna have there own language and way of life. I liked this one but not as much as the first. I needed more action to balance out the info intake. Overall still an amazing read. Looking forward to figure out whose in Mav’s harem and the fall of Elvasi. And more bloodshed of course.
