Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles—the inspiration for the hit TNT series—continue their bestselling crime-solving streak. • Evil exists. Evil walks the streets. And evil has spawned a diabolical new disciple in this white-knuckle thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. PECCAVI The Latin word is scrawled in blood at the scene of a young woman’s brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. … young woman’s brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. It’s a chilling Christmas greeting for Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, who swiftly link the victim to controversial celebrity psychiatrist Joyce O’Donnell–Jane’s professional nemesis and member of a sinister cabal called the Mephisto Club.
On top of Beacon Hill, the club’s acolytes devote themselves to the analysis of evil: Can it be explained by science? Does it have a physical presence? Do demons walk the earth? Drawing on a wealth of dark historical data and mysterious religious symbolism, the Mephisto scholars aim to prove a startling theory: that Satan himself exists among us.
With the grisly appearance of a corpse on their doorstep, it’s clear that someone–or something–is indeed prowling the city. The members of the club begin to fear the very subject of their study. Could this maniacal killer be one of their own–or have they inadvertently summoned an evil entity from the darkness?
Delving deep into the most baffling and unusual case of their careers, Maura and Jane embark on a terrifying journey to the very heart of evil, where they encounter a malevolent foe more dangerous than any they have ever faced . . . one whose work is only just beginning.

This wasn’t my favorite Rizzoli & Isles book. And yes, I’m reading them in order. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because I found it a little confusing going from the current time with Rizzoli to a time twelve years ago with Lily and to a current time with Lily in Italy. I’ve read many books which do this, but this one didn’t seem to be …
Very suspenseful! Couldn’t put it down.

I’ve been a fan of Tess Gerritsen for years, but I think this is her best. A definite page turner.
This is a book that I still think about – it really scared me
So much better than the tv show. Characters are not silly like tv show, but intense and really interesting
Fascinating story line. I always enjoy her books but this is one of my favorites.
If you had it, I’d give this a 4.5 stars.
The Mephisto Club was the first Tess Gerritson book I had ever read. I have now read most of them. I find her books difficult to put down so I am losing sleep- enjoyably so.
Ms. Gerrit son is a wizard at making her characters come to life just like you were there.
I had hoped Gerritsen had gotten her serial-killer quota out of the way with her first two Rizzoli and Isles novels. I was wrong. She returns to that premise here.
Jane and Maura investigate a series of murders linked to the Mephisto Club, a group of scholars who believe Satan walks among us in human form.
At 425 pages, this novel seemed …
