A woman in danger…
Serena Blake is a bestselling author of erotic fiction. She knows how to write a happy ending but hasn’t managed to find one of her own. Divorced and alone, she has no one to turn to when a stalker begins to threaten her life. The cops don’t believe her. Her ex-husband thinks she’s making the whole story up. Adam Miles and Jacob Dean are halves of a whole. They’ve spent their entire adult lives searching for the one woman who can handle them both. I love all of Lexi Blake’s books but this is my favorite. I love the characters and how they interact with each other. It made me laugh, and cry, and cheer. I read it over and over.
Yes, I know 25 is older than most would rate this very sexy Romantic Suspense. This story contains kink that can definitely fuel the imagination. As Master Ian may say, “There are rules to this sort of thing.” I enjoyed the Suspense portion and felt there was a lot of angst and drama I would expect to find in people who are much younger than these characters are purported to be. But it is entertaining nonetheless.
We were first introduced to Jake and Adam in The Dom Who Loved Me and I was looking forward to reading their book. They get assigned the mission of protecting an erotic romance writer when someone starts stalking her. Their is need for their services as the police aren’t taking her case very seriously and the stalker is escalating.
Jake and Adam are almost opposites but make a perfect whole for someone who is interested in a menage arrangement. And since Serena is a writer, she can’t help but wonder what it would be like not only to experience a menage, but especially with Jake and Adam.
I loved the interplay between Jake and Adam, and their reactions became clearer as we were provided more of their backstories. However, it almost felt like perhaps the story was a little long. Overall though I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
More Dick and Jane funtimes with the humongo BDSMing Doms in Masters and Mercenaries and little h’s.
This time we have not one but two heroes set out to protect a little woman from her stalker. She writes BDSM so this would appear to be a romance made in heaven. Unfortunately, the boys get stupid and “betray” her and lots of pouting ensues from everyone. Adam and Jake were still entertaining but not nearly as much as in the last book as they are now the ones messing up their own romance with Serena so ANGST and MISUNDERSTANDINGS.
I listened to the audio book and thought the narration was good. I started out liking all of the characters. I liked that Serena was making a new life and focusing on her career after her divorce. I liked both Jake and Adam. They played well off of each other, and seemed to bring balance to the relationship. There were a number of funny moments in the book that served to lighten up all of the friction.
The other things that didn’t thrill me pale in comparison to the fact that this book went on FOREVER!! It was 14 hours and 20 minutes long. It irritated me that all 3 of the characters were so fragile. They had these insecurities and seemed so sensitive to EVERYTHING that they said to each other. It was exhausting being around them. I got so sick of them trying to get the relationship together.
I honestly don’t think the book was terrible. Figuring out the stalker part had some surprises, and other pieces of the plot were fairly obvious. I wish the book spent less time on the angst of the relationship and more time on the actual relationship. Luckily, I was able to listen to this through Audible Escapes.
Loved it very sexy and hot !!!
OMG, I couldn’t get enough of this book, but even though there are some sad parts it is an EXCELLENT book… She is finally living the life that she always wanted, the way she wanted… Can’t wait to see what the next book holds
This was my first Blake book, and it had me laughing and turning pages until the end. Love the characters and their quirks.

The Men With the Golden Cuffs was the second book in the Masters and Mercenaries series by Lexie Blake.
I fell in love with Adam Miles and Jacob (Jake) Dean in book one, The Dom Who Loved Me. They were hard and soft opposites who were a team in every way, including both being Doms in D/s ménage relationships. They didn’t have a permanent sub but were always looking for the perfect woman. They were former Special Forces who were working for McKay-Taggart Security Firm.
Serena Brooks was an erotic romance writer. She currently had a stalker who was escalating but the police and her ex-husband didn’t believe her and thought she was trying to get PR for her books. Her agent hired McKay-Taggart to keep her safe and find her stalker.
I loved all main characters. They each had their own role and fit perfectly. They were a mixture of beautiful, funny, sarcastic, intense, brooding, strong and creative. The storyline was multi-faceted with the development of D/s relationships, hashing through all past baggage and sorting through a suspenseful theme. The book was a little longer than necessary but it was written and developed well creating a quick page turner experience.
Blake continued to develop the strong cast of secondary characters providing continued interest in the rest of the series. I’m also hopeful that Bridget and Chris will get their own stories. For now, the mysterious and cynical Liam is up next in A Dom is Forever.
I adored this book! Jake and Adam most of the time too. Honestly Jake and Adam were my favorite part of One Dome to Love. I loved and hated that Jake and Adam weren’t perfect and both had their own deep issues to deal with, and that manifested in not always making the right decisions about Serena. There were times I swooned and there were times I personally wanted to punch them. I really liked Serena too, she had a really good balance to her and she really developed over the course of the story. She had a backbone, a real backbone and it was amazing to see her not only find it, but use it on two men who sometimes did really stupid man things.
The suspense portion of the story kept me interested the entire book. Well exceeded my expectations.
I’m going to mention again I bought the first five books as Masters and Mercenaries The Early Ops and I am reviewing them individually.
I fell in love with Adam and Jake in the first book of this series. I love how their relationship is so complex like brothers without the blood connection. When Grace, who is now the receptionist for McKay/Taggart, escorts a possible client to Jake he was immediately overwhelmed with the possibilities and leaves her with Adam in their office. One problem, they weren’t sure they believed her.
Serena is an author of erotic/BDSM books. Although she isn’t in the lifestyle she has researched it and has some fantasies of her own in that respect. Her husband divorced her over her first book and is now looking to get a piece of her success. He is trying to get money from her in spite of not supporting her at all. On top of all that, she is being stalked and the stalker is escalating.
Now the one thing that the guys didn’t know at the time was that Serena’s agent is a friend of Ian’s and she is the one hiring them. After Ian blows up at them they go to start their bodyguard duties. When she doesn’t answer the door, and since they aren’t happy with her security, they break in.
I love Serena’s dog, he’s sweet and not a very good guard dog. Adam and Jake immediately make friends with the dog his mistress however would be another story.
So much isn’t adding up, and everyone around Serena becomes a suspect.
I loved the way everything unfolds, including Serena’s introduction into the BDSM lifestyle. So much intrigue, suspense, with more than one surprise twist and I am seriously glad my kindle didn’t melt from these three.
The Men With The Golden Cuffs is romantic suspense at its best with a healthy dose of BDSM thrown in for good measure. Lexi Blake ticks all the boxes with this book. Lexi’s ability to infuse humor into even the most serious moments is one of the many reasons her books are a cut above. I loved Adam, Serena and Jake. Their push-pull with each other was fascinating. Overcoming trust issues, negative life experiences and a dangerous stalker caused the trio to struggle in their quest to develop a true relationship.
Adam and Jake like to share their woman. They are hired to protect Serena, a writer of ménage books. She has a nasty stalker who is escalating. Ian warns them not to get involved with the client but our guys can’t help themselves. There is lots of drama and action and Ian, who is his sarcastic self. I love the McKay-Taggart Family!
4.5 stars
Hot romantic suspense with a dash of BDSM and a side of menage.
I really enjoyed this wonderful blend of so many genres, it held my attention from beginning to end. This is the second book in the Masters and Mercenaries series, and whilst it contains mild spoilers to Book #1 it can very easily be read as a stand alone story. I read the first book a couple of years ago, after getting it as a freebie, and enjoyed that but just never got around to continuing the series until now.
I love a good menage story and am a sucker for BDSM too, so the blurb for this book really appealed. Reading this I was hoping for a steamy read, plenty of suspense and perhaps some angst. Not only did I get all that but it was even better than I expected.
Serena is an author of erotic/BDSM menage romances, with a nasty ex-husband hounding her for more money and a stalker who is getting more and more threatening. Her agent puts her in touch with a security company and she is paired with Adam and Jake, two men who see her as the perfect woman to complete their lives. Can they keep both her body and heart safe? Will she accept them for who they are and what they want?
The characters are what really made this book for me. Whilst she is a woman totally lacking in confidence and broken down by her ex, the judgemental opinion of others and the fear inspired by her stalker, Serena still felt quite a strong woman. She carried on writing, she stood up for herself against Adam and Jake and she took chances.
Adam and Jake both had abandonment issues and it was really refreshing to have a big bad Dom who wasn’t always super confident. Whilst Adam was described as beta and metro-sexual, he still felt quite a strong and dominant male too. Whilst some of their issues came from a lack of communication and being honest about their feelings, hopes and fears, I never found it irritating. The background of all three made it very reasonable that they would guard their hearts and expect the worst for themselves, so I found this aspect felt natural and believable.
The chemistry between all three was intense, and I loved the dynamic between Adam and Jake, who seemed to be almost two halves of a whole. The story was very much 2 steps forward and 1 step back, yet again I enjoyed this angst and tension. It never felt contrived, rather it felt like an organic part of the plot.
Despite being a good length book I didn’t ever feel tempted to skim parts or skip ahead. This easily held my attention and definitely had me hoping for a HEA for the three of them. The book involved menage and several BDSM scenes, if you don’t like either of those you won’t enjoy this. However if you don’t mind them or love them then I really do recommend this book. It is well written with its good plot, gripping pace and wonderful characters.
Jake and Adam are close. They do everything together. Work together, live together, even take their women together. And they’ve decided they want a woman permanently, together. In walks Serena. She is an erotic BDSM/Menage romance author. Sounds like she’s right up their alley, right? Only, she needs their help. She has a stalker, and its getting pretty scary!
Jake, Adam and Serena are great together, but they are all wary, each having been burned in the past. Lack of communications, jumping to conclusions, and stubbornness all play a part in almost destroying something that could be amazing. There were places in the book, that I just wasn’t sure if there was going to be an HEA or not. I was pulling for them, but my emotions were all over the place. I was so frustrated by them at times. (I mean, I really wanted to smack those guys upside the head at times! What are they thinking!)
This book is full of twists and turns, and I never knew what was coming next! The series revolves around a group that I would guess would be classified as PIs, so there is plenty of action and suspense along with the all of the romance and love I could handle. And the stalker! I never saw that coming! (No details, you’re just gonna have to read it to find out!) This book was both fun and serious, meaningful, and light-hearted at times. I can’t wait to dive into the next M&M book!
