A #1 New York Times bestseller by Kim Edwards, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter is a brilliantly crafted novel of parallel lives, familial secrets, and the redemptive power of loveKim Edwards’s stunning novel begins on a winter night in 1964 in Lexington, Kentucky, when a blizzard forces Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, is perfectly healthy, but the doctor immediately … healthy, but the doctor immediately recognizes that his daughter has Down syndrome. Rationalizing it as a need to protect Norah, his wife, he makes a split second decision that will alter all of their lives forever. He asks his nurse, Caroline, to take the baby away to an institution and never to reveal the secret. Instead, she disappears into another city to raise the child herself. So begins this beautifully told story that unfolds over a quarter of a century—in which these two families, ignorant of each other, are yet bound by the fateful decision made that winter night long ago.
A family drama, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter explores every mother’s silent fear: What would happen if you lost your child and she grew up without you? It is also an astonishing tale of love and how the mysterious ties that hold a family together help us survive the heartache that occurs when long-buried secrets are finally uncovered.

Very entertaining and hard to put down.
Enjoyable and captivating read,
The book was well worried and a good story. It’s not normally the kind of book I read, so I’m not overly excited about it in general. That being said, if this is a style of genre of enjoy, them you should really like this book.
Can grief be prevented? Dr. David Henry tries but to do that by making a unilateral decision about his newborn daughter. How will adding this new secret to the secret of his upbringing affect his wife and newborn son? Will keeping or revealing the secrets cause the most pain? In 1964 would there really be any need for secrets?
I hope you are caught up in this story as quickly as I was. It was hard to put down because there was no easy answer to any of my questions.
Compelling account of the ramifications of living with an ill fated decision.
It’s tragic to think that this is actually the mindset of some people in real life, just because a baby is different. What a loss that the whole family as a unit had to endure. The secrets caused a loving father and husband to miss out on so much…. Not only with the son he had but the daughter he could have had.
Really enjoyed this book.
Well written and interesting. Definitely brings you into the story.
Story stays with you long after you have finished reading the book.
A study in the domino effect of bad choices. It’s kept me reading but kind of depressing.
Riveting!
Very well written story about the complexity of relationships and life. Doesn’t give much hope for happiness. Rather gloomy actually but very realistic . A good read though not. Happy one.
This was a bittersweet story, compelling and having the effect of pulling the reader into the story. I would recommend without hesitation opening this book!

One of the best 5 books I’ve ever read!!!
Good read.
It is rare to find a book that places the center of the story around Downs Syndrome. This is a lovely book. Mysterious and exciting but also warm and loving.
Well written, good character development, unexpected ending
