My name is Zoe Lane, and I see dead people. Sure, being a medium isn’t easy. Things like dating, working, and even sleeping are all hard to do when there’s a ghost hovering nearby, demanding your attention. But it’s not all bad, and I’d like to think I’m getting pretty good at it…most days. Except today, when twenty-one-year-old Penelope Muffin appeared. She looks like she just stepped off the … stepped off the set of a bad horror movie, and she has no recollection of how she got here. Spirits are supposed to be restored to their prime after they die, and I have no idea what to make of her disheveled state. Frankly, she’s freaking me out, but it’s my job to help her. The problem is, no one knows she’s in trouble but me, and when you go around town talking ghosts and murder, you start to look crazy.
Now the police think I’m the suspect—well, just Sheriff Vance, who doesn’t trust me anyway. I’ve got to find Penelope’s body, her killer, and figure out what happened—and I have to do it fast. Otherwise, I’ll be locked up for a crime I didn’t commit.
It would be a whole lot easier if Penelope would stop obsessing about her Instagram account and help me solve this crime before it’s too late.

Zoe Lane has a secret, she can see dead people. The only person who knows that Zoe’s secret is her dad and he wants her to keep quiet about it, especially from her mother. That is easier said than done when the dead seem to find her and want her help.
Zoe is trying to peacefully work her job at the paper when Penelope Muffin appears to her. Penelope is not like the other dead she has helped. Instead, she looks like she is a character from a thrasher film still stuck in costume. Zoe can’t figure out when her appearance is different from the others until she realizes that Penelope is not dead yet. Somehow this “unghost” is in limbo which means Zoe must find her body before she is dead for real. That’s not as easy as it seems as Penelope can’t remember what happened to her and the local police think that Zoe might have kidnapped or murdered her.
This is a laugh-out-loud madcap adventure as Zoe tries to find Penelope alive, stay one step ahead of the police, and stop people from thinking that she is loony. I personally can’t wait for book number three in this hilarious new cozy mystery series.
I author Erin Huss and her resourceful but zany heroines! This one’s a psychic winner

Excellent! I could not put this one down! Almost all of the action occurs in one day and WHAT A DAY! The heroine is savvy and resourceful no matter how misunderstood, the story is populated with some great secondary characters and victim/spirit Penelope Muffin is a real smart mouth, demanding that medium Zoe Lane (Looney Lane to her) help in saving her life. From the first “battle of the donuts” in the local newsroom, the humor and constant action races along to an explosive conclusion. So worth the read
This is the second of author Erin Huss’s series that I have fallen in love with. Great, direct and to the point writing, original plot and characters, and always with a terrific sense of humor. I am hooked!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I really liked this different twist on Zoe’s abilities! Seems that it could become pretty helpful! I also like that she is figuring out her gift without a whole lot of help. She is a delightfully, bumbling introvert and I love it! I look forward to the next book!
The second book in the Lost Souls Lane mystery series by Erin Huss is just as much fun as the first book! As Zoe adapts to her abilities, she is faced with new challenges. The action moves the plot along rapidly. I love how Zoe’s quirkiness is still apparent, even as she is trying to become a new and better person. (She still has that addiction to romance novels, though, and the titles of the series are hysterical). I’m not going to give away the plot, but Zoe helps this story’s spirit out and the plot sets up nicely for the third book – which I can’t wait to get my hands on. This review was written based on a complimentary pre-release digital ARC.
