A charming contemporary romance with engaging characters and a beautifully written story that kept me totally involved in all that was happening from the beginning and I didn’t want the book to end when I got to the last page. I loved the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Grantham Robbins, best selling author who returns home to Arkansas and Emily Wood, Executive Director of Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce. “The Matchmaker’s Billionaire” put a smile on my face and joy in my heart. Ms. Hoagland knocked this one off the charts and I look forward to more from this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This book was so fun, especially because I am a huge fan of Jane Austen’s Emma. This one was a modern retelling with escape rooms and the CIA! It followed the original storyline very closely (enough that I knew what to look for next, albeit in a unique and modern way!) but kept it fresh and fun.
Emily and Grant were old friends, when she suddenly stopped talking to him. Going back to his hometown wasn’t too exciting for him and his editor was asking him to up his romance game in his books, so he asked his PA to find a matchmaker so he could find something more.
His matchmaker happened to be…. his high school crush. Funny, flirty, and awkward ensues but it all works out eventually.
Clean romance, fun banter, seriously unexpected turns and I love the Frank Lloyd Wright house.
Definitely recommend!
Maria Hoagland has written a book that pulls the readers in. She has a way of making it feel like the reader could be there with the characters, This book was a slow burn with old chemistry between Emily and Grant coming back to each of them.
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.
I received an ARC and I am leaving my voluntarily and honest review.
How fun is it that this little gem came out around the same time as the new movie Emma? I love this cozy small Arkansas town and Emily is the perfect woman to find a date for Grant, who is a reclusive, awkward best seller author. This couple has a past and I loved unraveling their delicate relationship.
Emily is the resident matchmaker–at least, she takes credit as being such–and her intentions are in the right place, but her cupid’s arrows seem to fall short more often than not. This modernized version truly is adorable and I loved settling in with this story, as it felt like coming home. I really enjoy a small town romance, full of second chance possibilities, and a character who comes back to his roots. All of the characters are likable, which really adds to the fun, most particularly the sparring, the flirting, and the assumptions.
Hoagland does a great job of offering some marked differences from the original, while still staying true to the meat of the story and I loved it! I especially enjoyed the Regency ball, the retreat, and the descriptions of this massively thoughtful home and design. Eureka Springs is a place I’m definitely coming back to!

I love the little town of Eureka Springs, Georgia. It’s the kind of town where everyone knows everyone. And they look out for everyone too.
Emily works in the Chamber of Commerce. Lucky her, one day someone calls looking for a matchmaker. Emily feels like that is something she is pretty good at. She ends up being volunteered for the job. Only the person needing the matchmaker is one of her friends from high school, Grant. I thought it was kind of funny how Emily prided herself on being such an amazing matchmaker, but none of her matches really were working out like she thought they were.
Grant is an author, a best selling author. He needs a date to take with him to a red carpet event. None of the women that Emily continually tries to get him to like seem to work. I loved how that happened. But Emily and Grant were just too cute together. Even when they were mad at each other, they just seemed right.
This is a cute romance that I loved reading! I can’t wait for more in this series!
I was sent an e-copy of The Matchmaker’s Billionaire as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
This book was a lot of fun. It felt like a book within a book. You had the story of Grant and Emily who had not seen each other since high school and then you had the world of author Granthan Robbins, who wrote books about Cruise Donnelly. These spy thrillers were made into movies and Grant even had escape rooms being built all over the world. His house sounded so interesting. The chemistry between the two main characters was interesting because you never knew of they would get together or not. The ending was fantastic! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
