Hilarious. Sweet. Sassy.
It is an indisputable fact that Reed women are not marriage material.
The great-granddaughter of a famous burlesque dancer, the granddaughter of an ex-hippie, and the daughter of an eccentric artist, Taylor quickly learns the heartbreaking lesson of her family curse after her first love ends in rejection.
Apparently, Reed women are not girlfriend material either.
Nestled in a small town in Maine, Cedar Gardens is the worn-down estate which the Reed women call home. But there’s one catch: It doesn’t belong to them. Almost seventy years ago, Mortimer J. Freeman bought the place for his long-lost love, Marlena Reed. Now, his great-grandson—and heir to billions—Lucas Freeman is in town with an agenda: to quietly reclaim the estate and Mortimer’s old love letters to Marlena while avoiding a family scandal. But Taylor’s grandmother has another plan: to play matchmaker with Taylor and Lucas before all three Reed women are kicked out of the only home they have ever known.
The problem? Taylor can’t stand the brooding billionaire, who doesn’t understand the gravity of a triple dog dare or the fun of blowing bubbles in your milk. Responsibility, reliability, and routine are Lucas’s mantra. That is, until the fiery Taylor schemes up a hilarious to-do list to break him out of his habitual shell and, in the process, turns his world upside down.
But falling in love wasn’t part of any of their plans.
Does Cedar Gardens have enough magic to bring Taylor and Lucas together, or will the Reed family curse win out in the end?
THE MATCHMAKER CLUB is the heartwarming, yet hilarious third installment in the Club Series. A New Adult Romantic Comedy full of lol moments, lovable characters, strong female bonds, and gives all the feels!

Free-ish spirit Taylor and rigid intense Lucas clash in a battle for his family’s estate (technically) that her family had lived on for generations. Their families have a sordid cloudy past because of a relationship between their great-grandparents that has left rumors and innuendo in its wake. It’s really not clear who the estate belongs to.
She helps him loosen up and he helps her move past her past and the ‘curse’ of the Reed women.
There are so many things that make this book fun. Including the characters and life in a small rural town that perfectly set the scene.
Really cute story!
(This is told completely from Taylor’s point of view but their is a link for a special novella of Lucas’s POV! Definitely read that too!)
Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!!
I absolutely loved this book!!!
This book was super cute, sweet, fun, romantic, realistic, intriguing, and ever so satisfying!
I really enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down!!
Although, early in the year, this book has easily become a favorite and I know will be one of the top books I will have read and reviewed this year!!!
This book is a great example of the enemies to lovers and the opposites attract themes. And although not necessarily a new concept, the author found a way to keep the story line refreshing, exciting, and entertaining!!
Taylor was constantly told that Reed women are not wife or girlfriend material. After her first love ends in heartbreak, Taylor starts to believe her family curse. But all that is about to change when Lucas arrives to evict the Reeds from his family’s estate. His visit not only causes stress, frustration, and chaos – but also confusion when Taylor and Lucas start to hit it off. Is Lucas really the enemy? Will Taylor and Lucas end up together? Can a Reed woman actually find true love and have a HEA? Or are the Reed women truly cursed? No spoilers here!! But you will definitely want to read this book to find out what happens!!
I really enjoyed the main characters, Taylor, her grandmother, her aunt, and Lucas. They were likable, relatable, and genuine. I really liked Taylor!! I felt an instant connection with Taylor and was able to easily relate with her. She was sweet, smart, sassy, caring, considerate, passionate, determined – the friend you’d turn to and want on your side! Lucas was the more stubborn, closed-off, stuffy, strict, smug, and arrogant jerk at first – but over the story line he changes – for the better and is a guy you’d not only approve of, but also root for! I loved Taylor and Lucas together! I loved how opposite they were in so many ways, yet so alike in others. It really made them seem so raw, realistic, relatable, and well-developed. I enjoyed their witty back and forth banter and how passionately heated their conversations got, and those many in between LOL moments and adventures.
Taylor’s mom passed away when she was only three years old after battling breast cancer. This definitely made Taylor even easier to click with and a stronger, deeper character, as I’ve had to watch my mom suffer from multiple cancer diagnoses, surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments, etc., over the years. Thankfully my mom is finally in remission. However, it’s only temporary, as it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when she will get another cancer diagnosis.
I really enjoyed that the author created flawed and damaged characters that really showcased her writing style and ability to push her characters to reach their full potential over their arc. This is especially so with Lucas, as his character had such significant growth, development, and improvement over the course of the book.
A strong character development journey to root for and enjoy watching it unfold!
This book has a creative story line, excellent writing style with vivid scenes, relatable characters, is evenly paced, and keeps you entertained through the last page.
Again, I would like to point out that I really liked the character arc progression as I felt both Taylor and Lucas had quite a bit of growing and maturing to do at the beginning of the book. And, it was quite impressive to see their overall development and success together at the end.
This book is book three in The Club Book Series. It can be read as a standalone. I had not previously read the other two books in this series before reading this book and was not lost or confused while reading this book. However, there seems to be character and story line overlaps.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all romantic comedy and chick lit readers will like this book too – and this book series! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!

This had an interesting premise and was the first book in this series that I read. Two opposites struggle as they find themselves attracted to each other. Lucas was kind at times and unafraid to push his boundaries with his family. Taylor was strong willed and fully believed in the family curse. I enjoyed their journey as well as a lot of the secondary characters. I recommend this story.

“The Match-maker Club” by Kayley Wood is part of the ‘Club’ series and chronicles the adventures of Taylor Reed as she fights to keep her family home safe from Lucas Freeman, who has been sent to quietly reclaim it. The complex relationship between the two families is based on secrets and different philosophies, but they soon discover they might find a middle ground if they try hard enough.
This lighthearted contemporary romance has its serious undertones but overall, it is a lovely feel-good tale that celebrates following one’s heart. I love the secondary characters and spent quite a bit of time giggling, particularly when it turned out that the honey butter served in a pastry had a little something extra that made dessert particularly memorable.
The strong females in the Reed family are inspiring and vivid characters and it was wonderful to see how Taylor finds a way to reach Lucas through her games, lists, and playlists. The poignant elements supplied by the experiences of previous generations as well as Taylor’s history nicely contrast with the episodes of lightheartedness, and the matchmaker letters give additional insight to some of the characters. There are a couple of awkward elements, including a foray into a different point of view for a single scene and a song on a playlist that is anachronistic, but the overall story is uplifting and entertaining.
I loved the transformation of Lucas’ character and I salute the author for creating characters who are so real that I am rooting for them to continue to overcome the odds and enjoy their compromise. This is a fun and entertaining story that is easily read as a stand-alone tale, but I definitely am curious about the other books in the series.
A copy of this story was provided to me for review.
I loved Taylor and Lucas’s story! I love the stories where they try to make up for a lost childhood because it is always so fun and creative. There is very few moments where you feel true happiness like a child does, and writing those moments can be hard. Kayley Wood does an amazing job writing the fun moments, the relationships between the characters. I especially loved the other sides of this book where we got to see other’s love stories through the matchmaker’s club!
A funny, heartwarming read with incredible characters and an amazing story! What an original and interesting plot! Seriously! And the FEELS!!! This book and characters were so well written that I got all the crazy feels and there was pretty much a pg13 book!
I loved Taylor! She was a spitfire! & the other Reed women were amazing! Lucas…hmm…there was just something about him that I instantly liked. Then that like turned into more. He and Taylor together were absolutely combustible! All these characters came off as so real to me!
This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This review is my voluntary, honest opinion.
