What a beautiful change of pace yet still a journey of discovery and finding oneself in the world of domination and BDSM. A story that transcends two time periods and one family. Grandmother (Olivia), now deceased and granddaughter, Tess who discovers a hidden secret past. Shocking, yet fascinating to her as it kindles and intensifies her own journey of discovery into dominance and submission, with her boyfriend, Ryan. How far will each woman descend into their feelings
Claire Thompson gives you such a beautifully written, page-turning, love story in The Master and The Secretary in the Finding Master Right series (Bk 2). Travelling between past and present has been treated with diligent care.

Grandmother like Granddaughters
This is a delightful story. Tess stumbles on to her grandmother’s very secret diaries a couple of weeks after her passing away. Tess was very close with her grandmother and they were more a like than either of them ever knew. As she began to read the diaries, she discovered submissive feelings about herself. Her grandmother, Olivia, went to work as a secretary for an attorney in 1961. The diaries follow her submissive journey with her boss, Mr Stevenson. Tess shares the diaries with her new boyfriend, Ryan. They begin their own journey in a D’s relationship. Oh, and the surprise is when Mr. Stevenson joins in on the fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Claire Thompson you really out did yourself here.
Not too dark, not too light, not too sweet, not too hot, it’s just RIGHT, spankin’ right!
Wow, it almost sounds like a description for a great cup of hot chocolate, but it’s not. It describes Claire Thompson’s newest erotic romance novel, “The Master and the Secretary”. I loved the premise of the book which ultimately tells two stories in one. Ultimately, “The Master and the Secretary” tells the reader about a journey of discovery into the world of BDSM and the role of submission. A journey precipitated by a journal found by a young woman and how the story within that journal challenges her. The blurb can give you a bit more about the plot. I don’t want to go any further into the storyline as I do not want to spoil the surprises, twists, and turns of the plotline. What this reader/reviewer wants to share is the admiration I have of Claire Thompson’s gift for telling a tale. The story is delivered in bits and pieces of flashback, discussion, and action which fall together beautifully and weave a tale that is so compelling, it is difficult to put it down. Additionally, the characters are rich, and the prose is easy to read. While I was given an ARC of “The Master and the Secretary” to prepare this honest voluntary review, I plan to purchase a copy to put into the FAVORITES collection on my Kindle. If you know nothing of erotic romance, submission, or BDSM, then “The Master and the Secretary” is a good first step. Happy pages.
I’ve loved Claire Thompson’s books forever! And this one. Bridges of Madison County for Masters and subs… couldn’t stop reading!
A secret journal comes to life, when Tess is cleaning out the home of her recently deceased nana. Following a abrupt phone call, Tess dives into the world of Olivia, her grandmother and her submissive side. Along with Tess’ new love interest and dominant lover, Ryan, readers are introduced to two generations who have found love and BDSM in a law office.
This is a fantastic read! I fell in love with all four main characters. Lovable, relatable, and funny each adds a certain spice to the story. What an interesting idea to incorporate journal entries as a bond between our main couple. As well as an extension to our past couple. Olivia and James had such a beautiful relationship and I was happy to hear the end of their story.
I would not change a thing about this read. It’s another delicious sexy, well-written BDSM that I expect and love from CT.
Beautiful, well-written story about the parallel lives of two couples, fifty years apart. Tess finds her recently deceased grandmother Olivia’s journals, chronicling Olivia’s D/s relationship with her boss, Mr Stevenson. These very honest diary entries give Tess and her new bf Ryan the impetus to begin their own D/s journey. I enjoyed Tess getting to know her grandmother as a whole person, and the events that occur later in the book to bring the story full circle. I’d love to know Mr Stevenson’s POV. That last journal entry had me hooked! Solid read by the exceptional Ms Thompson.
I received an arc of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a unique love story as written in the journals of a young woman’s grandmother. The journals detail her grandmother’s submissive journey. Sharing the journals with Ryan, her coworker and boyfriend gives Tess the courage to explore her own deeply buried submissive feelings. Ryan, has long yearned to find the one woman he can build a D/s relationship with and share his life and his love. Tess is that woman.
I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters are wonderfully written and genuinely likeable. The path to Tess and her Nana’s submission while strikingly similar diverge in circumstance. Excellent read.
The Master and the Secretary has to be one of Ms. Thompson’s more elegant stories. She’s created, in essence, a story within a story. It’s also deeply moving. The thing that sets this one apart from most in the genre is the multi-generational points of view. One is told from the view of a grandmother whose journey begins in the early 1960’s. The other is told about a granddaughter who is examining her late grandmother’s legacy. I loved the journey the grandmother takes and the man that leads her along that path. It takes its time unfolding and each step she takes is more erotic than the last. I admire the dominant who is patient and caring. The granddaughter discovers that she is very like her grandmother and this was a pleasing touch. The man she chooses to submit to is also very loving and willing to bring his woman along her path. Two distinct stories that relate profound tenderness.
The story is strikingly sensual and to characterize it as erotic is understating the effect the it will have on the reader. The story is unbelievably gripping. I hope that this novel becomes a classic in erotica because it deserves it.
A fun BDSM story. It was great finding out that Tess’s grandmother was involved in a BDSM relationship with her boss. I enjoyed how Tess and Ryan’s relationship developed alongside the reading of her grandmother’s journal. It was almost like getting two stories in one. So many times we think our generation created kinky sex and this story goes to show we are definitely not the first to enjoy dominance and submission. This is a much lighter look at BDSM than Ms. Claire’s usual stories. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a well written BDSM story.
This is a very different book from Claire Thompson, it is almost whimsical in its approach to BDSM and was an easy read with a satisfying ending. Although some questions remain about what happened between James and Olivia after she finished writing her journals, perhaps it is not necessary to know as Tess and Ryan’s journey while mirroring that of Olivia and James was so much more because they were free to explore and fulfill their desires.
All in all a very pleasant read.
The second book in the series, but each book is a standalone book with a new couple and story.
I loved this book. It features a double storyline. Tess reads about her grandmother’s journey in submission through the dairy she left. It allows Tess to look and act on her own feeling of submission.
of the two stories i enjoyed Olivia’s story the most. it is et in the sixties and a whole new world opens for Olivia. It is in a world where D/s is taboo and it is all a secret. It was wonderful to read her thoughts and emotions and the confidence she got in this relationship. A whole new world opens.
Tess is on a similar journey, but then in a world which is much more open and accepted.
One of the best books I have ever read about the journey a submissive takes from secret longings to full acceptance. Claire Thompson rarely disappoints and this book is no exception. The dual journeys of a woman and her grandmother (via journals) are handled with delicacy and care. In this book, you also see Claire Thompson’s signature characterizations. Few writers make you feel what their characters feel better than Claire.
