“A treasure beyond price. The Masqueraders is a wicked delight, worth more than its weight in gold.”
Anne Stuart
Such a daring escape
Their infamous adventurer father has taught Prudence Tremaine and her brother Robin to be masters of disguise. Ending up on the wrong side of the Jacobite rebellion, brother and sister flee to London, Prudence pretending to be a dashing young buck, and Robin a … buck, and Robin a lovely young lady.
Could cost them both their hearts
Then Prudence meets the elegant Sir Anthony Fanshawe, and Robin becomes the mysterious hero of the charming Letitia Grayson, and in order to have what they truly want, the two masqueraders must find a way to unmask themselves without losing their lives
“What with elopements, rescues, duels, and cards, the story goes excitingly; and finally the magnificent but dubious father proves himself a Viscount. It is a picturesque and engaging story.”
THE SPECTATOR PRAISE FOR GEORGETTE HEYER: “Our Georgette Heyer display of the Sourcebooks reprints has been a huge success, not only to those early fans like myself, but to many new readers who appreciate her style and wit.”
Nancy Olson, Quail Ridge Books, Raleigh, NC “Reading Georgette Heyer is the next best thing to reading Jane Austen.”
Publishers Weekly “Wonderful characters, elegant, witty writing, perfect period detail, and rapturously romantic. Georgette Heyer achieves what the rest of us only aspire to.”
Katie Fforde WHAT READERS SAY: “Heyer manages to make us believe in this entertaining masquerade of the siblings posing each as a member of the opposite sex. Very true to the period indeed. Strongly recommended.” “Such a great book-the ultimate romantic, swashbuckling, identity-swapping fantasy.” “A must-read for Heyer fans.” “Anyone who loves Shakespeare’s Viola (and who thinks Shakespeare didn’t give her enough to do in Twelfth Night) will enjoy Georgette Heyer’s heroine Prudence.” “I wore the cover out on this one almost forty years ago. Believe me, Ms Heyer stands the test of time “”

Love her books
another wonderful book great job
Georgette Hey is the BEST!!!!
Georgette Heyer always provides a fun story, great characters and a delightful romp!
While this story is set in the 18th century rather than the Regency Heyer is so well known for this is a terrific book and a really fun read. There are two romances; a brother and sister are trying to stay anonymous in society while trying to help their father recover his title, so they are cross dressing. Needless to say the path to true love isn’t smooth, but it is very entertaining. I recommend it highly.
No one does Regency better than Heyer. This one was great.
This is one of my favorite Georgette Heyer books. If you enjoy it there are many more. She is the author that writers of Georgian and Regency historical novels model themselves after!
What can I say? It’s by Georgette Heyer, who invented the Regency novel, and wrote well and wittily. This one is actually set earlier, in the Georgian period, but it’s just as good as her Regencies. In fact, I like her Georgian period novels better, as I prefer that era. Oh, and it’s also clean, for those who have never read a Heyer novel, and prefer non-steamy.
Great book by Georgette Heyerdahl, author of the first Regency romances I ever read (45 years ago) and still the best such author I’ve read. This is unlike most of these romances, since it involves a brother and sister hiding in plain sight by mascarading as a sister and brother. This of course leads to complications, particularly when each sibling falls in love, and when their father turns up in London. The father is thought to be a criminal, which is the cause of the mascarade, but things get sorted out and happiness prevails. Very good read.
Such twists and turns on this book, beautiful way of developing the characters, enjoyable to every last word!
This is one of Heyer’s best! I love this book and return to it again and again.
This is my favourite Georgette Heyer book. The characters are wonderful, and the masquerade was incredibly funny and witty
Lots of adventure and action, keeping some secrets to the very end.
Georgette Heyer always pleases. The Masqueraders is no different. With a twist of a Shakespearean theme Georgette brings to life the girl as a boy weaving the pits of society. The twist being the boy as a woman must do the same. The result is delightful.
