Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American ReadSix days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that … alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Engaging as it was factual. One of the best combinations of science fiction and fact I’ve read. In the company of Arthur C. Clark.
Great read. Better than the movie! More info on the science involved which can slow you down at times, but well worth it in the end.
This book is really “WOW” !! Years since I read something so captivating. Andy Weir did an excellent job of research and storytelling. This book is one to keep on your shelf where few deserve the honor to have a place.
Awesome:)
It was hard to put this book down. The main character is engaging and the action it based on real science. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Wow
Super entertaining to read. The main character’s smart-alex attitude is great.
loved it
I can see why this was turned into a movie. I’ve watched the movie and it can’t hold a candle to the original writen book. I recommend this book to everyone.
Fantastic story, suspenseful and almost Heinleinian humour. I loved it!
Really entertaining, funny and just fun to read.
Terrific and science-based. Keeps you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the hero. The movie is very enjoyable, too.
I love this type of highly possible science fiction.
Very boring. Essentially a popular science textbook.
So much better than the movie.
Loved it. I read this before I saw the movie and it was much better…and i loved the movie !
A total snore. Read it before the movie came out. Not impressed
The question that keep coming up was ” would he survive “!
Great technical detail.
This book was much better than I expected based on having seen the movie. I highly recommend this book.
