Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American ReadSix days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that … alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

One of my favorite books.
outstanding novel
Loved this book. It is perfect for the science nerds out there like myself who can get in to the engineering, physics, and chemistry while still providing a fun fiction novel. The movie does not nearly provide enough insight and falls short of the book
Outstanding. I could not put it down.
Kept you sitting on the edge of your seat. Very informative. Well written
Great story lots of detail about science
Loved this book! A real page turner, I didn’t want it to end! It was so realistic I thought, yea, that could happen! A great adventure that’s going to take place..someday! Well written and witty! Highly recommended.
Felt like a true memoir or diary almost. Loved all the a scientific information included in every chapter to make the story more believable.
Riveting story of survival!
I loved this book! So much better than the movie. I felt like I was on Mars, right along with him.
Enjoyable read
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
Better than the movie.
The book is much better than the movie and the movie was pretty good
Robinson Crusoe on Mars: Exquisitely researched. NASA scientists read it with pleasure. And if you just see the movie, you’ll miss the details.
